In 1995, Oliver Stone made the movie “Nixon.” It bombed, bringing in under $14,000,000. In 2008, Ron Howard added another name, made a new movie called “Nixon/Frost.” It also bombed, bringing in just under $15,000,000. Apparently, Hollywood has decided to bring America another Nixon movie every 13 years. Whether we want them or not. Critics say “Nixon/Frost” is filled with lies, distortions, exaggerations and what are euphemistically called “dramatizations.” For more information read the excellent Lies, Damn Lies and Dramatizations: ‘Frost/Nixon’ at BigHollywood.com. “But the film’s about Nixon,” say Hollywood insiders, “so it’s ok if we say the most vile...

Michael Jackson 'dropped from Grammys' By Megan Levy Last Updated: 1:38pm GMT 19/02/2008 Michael Jackson was dropped from the Grammy Awards last week after his diva demands proved too much for the show's producers, it has been claimed. Jackson 'wanted to be referred to as the King of Pop 30 times' The Thriller star was scheduled to appear at the Los Angeles awards ceremony to mark the 25th anniversary of Thriller, the best-selling album of all time. But his appearance was cancelled after the 49-year-old reportedly demanded that the entire event dedicated to him, the New York Post claims. Among...

I Hear Music, Partisan Music Watching the Grammys. By Raymond Arroyo The whole point of music is to transcend politics, grievances, and the differences that divide to help us reconnect to those essential human emotions we all share: love, loss, anger, regret. Unless, that is, you work for the music industry. Like its wicked stepsister, Hollywood, the music business has become increasingly divorced from its purpose, estranged from its audience, and maliciously partisan. Not that they seem to care. Case in point: the 49th Annual Grammy Awards held at the Los Angeles Staples Center on Sunday night. Watching the proceedings,...

Cocky rap star KANYE WEST is calling for a revised edition of THE BIBLE, because he thinks he should be a character in it. The JESUS WALKS hitmaker, who picked up three Grammy Awards last night (08FEB06), feels sure he'd be "a griot" (West African storyteller) in a modern Bible. He says, "I bring up historical subjects in a way that makes kids want to learn about them. I'm an inspirational speaker. "I changed the sound of music more than one time... For all those reasons, I'd be a part of the Bible. I'm definitely in the history books already."...

Thursday, February 9, 2006 · Last updated 10:03 a.m. PT 'American Idol' crushes Grammys in ratings By DAVID BAUDER AP TELEVISION WRITER NEW YORK -- Some humbling news for the pros: By a wide margin, TV viewers prefer the amateurs. Nearly twice as many people watched "American Idol" than the Grammy Awards Wednesday when the two music programs went head-to-head in prime time, according to preliminary estimates by Nielsen Media Research. The "Idol" audience on Fox was 28.3 million while the Grammy Awards were being watched by 15.1 million people from 8 to 9 p.m. EST, Nielsen said. Within that...

Kayne West Video rant on his Grammy Nomination: "If I don't win album of the year. I'm.. I'm gonna.. I'm gonna really have a problem with that. I can never talk myself out of it, you know why? because I was in the studio and I put in the work. I don't care if I jumped up and down right now on a couch like tom cruise. I don't care what I do. I don't care how much I [something]. You can never take away from the amount of work that I put into it. So I don't wanna hear...

Remember when Kanye West said Bush hates black people? I'm sure he's gonna get nominated for some Grammys. The only way people can hear US talking not WEST is if we boycott his music. How could we notice the Dixie Chicks statement and NOT Kanye West? Let's treat him the way we did the Dixie Chicks!

As a rule, when I write a piece about all the mistakes my newspaper, the L.A. Times, makes, I have to wait a week or even two to compile a selection large enough to make it worth our while. It’s not that they don’t come up with a ready supply on a daily basis. Heck, UPS doesn’t deliver the goods with such regularity. But some of the goofs are simply too boring to mention, as when they get the days and times of certain events wrong or when they simply misspell someone’s name. Sometimes, too, the corrections run even longer...

They really should have known it wasn’t going to work out when he suggested that “Ellen DeGeneres has crabs.” Sentiments like that are never positive. Perhaps they also should have reviewed one of his lively comic routines before hiring him. Maybe then they would have learned that he’s a racist swine with a penchant for ideas that would make death row inmates blush. Abortion in America is “beautiful”? Not good. No serious person was really surprised to learn that Chris Rock believes only gays watch the Oscars. After his position on gay marriage was recently exposed—“f*** them fa**ots,” he explained...

Arizona Congressman Jeff Flake, who represents the state’s Sixth District, today blasted an earmark contained in the omnibus appropriations bill for fiscal year 2005, which Congress passed late last year. The $150,000 earmark is for the GRAMMY Foundation, the music appreciation wing of the Recording Academy which distributes the yearly GRAMMY Awards. “A song by the name of ‘Here We Go Again’ won the GRAMMY for Record of Year last night,” said Flake. “After finding out today that Congress kicked in $150,000 to the GRAMMY Foundation, I’m thinking the same thing. Congress simply cannot control its appetite to spend taxpayer...

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Jazz composer Maria Schneider took home a Grammy on Sunday for her album "Concert in the Garden," without selling a single copy in a record store. Schneider, 44, financed her Grammy-winning album through a Internet-based music delivery service called ArtistShare that opens the financing of production to dedicated fans. Schneider said she believed she might be the first artist ever to win a Grammy for an album distributed solely on the Web. But she said that other musicians had already approached her about trying similar experiments of their own. "It's been very gratifying for me. It's...

In true punk rock fashion, Green Day tested the censors at the Grammy Awards on Sunday _ and the censors were ready. The Bay Area rockers, on a career high with their "American Idiot" album, added a shot of rock 'n' roll adrenaline by performing the title cut. The disc won the Grammy for best rock album. The song includes a prominent obscenity in one of the lyrics, but the censors were plainly prepared and neatly excised the word. They couldn't delete, however, singer Billie Joe Armstrong's pointed political reference to not wanting to be part of a redneck agenda....
