The Flight of the Phoenix rises from the ashes. Remember the original? James Stewart, Richard Attenborough, Ernest Borgnine, Peter Finch, Ian Bannen, Ronald Fraser, Hardy Krüger. The sort of cast you took for granted back in 1965. I have blurry childhood memories of rainy weekends, switching on the telly and usually finding some movie in which an Anglo–American–Aussie–Euro combination of blokes would be wiping the sweat from their brow in dusty climes and trying to figure a way out of the fix they were in. The Flight of the Phoenix was the one where a big transport plane crashes in...

As I predicted, the "remake" of the classic "Flight of the Phoenix" is yet another case of the doofuses running Hollywood thinking they can better their betters. "THE FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX" (2004) Production Cost: $ 25 million Marketing Cost: $ 20 million (est.) Total since release: $17,537,973 (three weeks) Viewer drop-off since release: 85% Daily revenue per screen week of 3 January: $ 97 Who but the liberal morons running Hollywood would think that they could replace Jimmy Stewart, Hardy Kreuger, Richard Attenborough, Ernest Borgnine, Peter Finch, and Ronald Fraser with yucking-it-up Dennis Quaid, "rapper" Tyrese Gobson, and Miranda...
  • "Flight of the Phoenix" remake -- looks like it's in trouble

This film -- a remake of the 1965 classic with James Stewart, Richard Attenborough, Hardy Krueger, etc., etc. -- was set to release before Halloween with no promotion. Then Thanksgiving. Now Christmas. Still no promotion. Aside from the hopelessness of remaking a matchless film, looks like even the studio is geting cold feet. The trailer looks like a bad rock video. Characters have been "updated for relevancy." Expect this one to go direct ---> video.
