WHAT DOES A PREMIUM CABLE NETWORK SUCH AS HBO OR SHOWTIME HAVE TO GAIN BY ADOPTING FIREFLY? There have been around 600,000 dvds of the Firefly dvd series sold to date in the US at a retail price of $50 a set. Assuming that a sixth of them already subscribe to the premium cable networks, that still leaves around a half a million people that would gladly subscribe to whichever premium network decides to revive firefly for a price cheaper per episode than what they paid for the dvd. When you consider how many of those 600,000 dvds were borrowed...

Okay, just walked in the door from watching "Serenity". I walked in to the theater prepared to be dissapointed- and, man, was I NOT dissapointed! In point of fact, it blew me away! Now as in any movie, there are plot points and physics (especially the physics in this one!) that could ruin the story for you if you let them. I chose to ignore these things, and just enjoy the movie. I don't want to put any spoilers here- but I have to say that Mal Reynolds (the ship's captain) is a character that any Freeper could respect, and,...

If you've been living in a cave in Afghanistan for the last week you may have missed this:

Movie Review: Serenity The distribution partners for the new film Serenity, the sequel to the short-lived television series Firefly, have decided to embrace the blogosphere in order to promote its movie. They asked bloggers to set up pre-release screenings across America (or to attend previously scheduled screenings) for free as long as the bloggers agreed to write about the film on their blogs. They did not demand or even suggest that the blog reviews be positive or encouraging, just to write something. One might assume that Universal might have taken this approach for one of two reasons. The first motive...

Having completely missed this one when it was actually being broadcast, I decided to give the boxed set a shot. "Firefly" is easily the best science fiction show that I have ever seen. The writing and acting were superb. I think a lot of the themes in this show would be dear to the hearts of a lot of freepers. Freedom, honor, self-reliance.

Video (Iowa City – KCRG) -- Are pencils passé? Some companies are touting technology as the key for kids to stay ahead of the coolness curve. The latest push button item does not exactly add, subtract or multiply. It must be August. Parents are with their kids shopping for school supplies. The National Retail Federation says families will spend about $450 on back to school shopping. Department stores now have lists that tell parents everything their kids need to fill up their backpacks. That list includes notebooks. Kids also need their pencils. But believe it or not, some parents...

Portland, May 26, 10:00 p.m."HI, MY NAME IS JOSS WHEDON. Before we begin the special screening, I have a little story I want to tell you. It's about a TV show called Firefly." I'm sitting in a movie theater in Portland and along with 200 other fans, I'm staring at a 20-foot-tall projection of the bleary, peanut-shaped head of Joss Whedon--creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer; he's snarkily introducing Serenity--the partially-completed film we're about to watch. We're paying to see this unfinished movie four months before its release date. It's the second of three rounds of sold-out sneak-preview screenings, scheduled...

Many of us Sci-Fi fans have been waiting on this one. Universal bumped the release date to September due to "The Interpreter" being released this past weekend. But the trailer is now online and may be shown with "Hitchhikers Guide" this Friday. Enjoy!
