Request to have HBO or Showtime adopt and continue the Firefly television series
Petition Spot ^ | 11/16/05

WHAT DOES A PREMIUM CABLE NETWORK SUCH AS HBO OR SHOWTIME HAVE TO GAIN BY ADOPTING FIREFLY?

There have been around 600,000 dvds of the Firefly dvd series sold to date in the US at a retail price of $50 a set. Assuming that a sixth of them already subscribe to the premium cable networks, that still leaves around a half a million people that would gladly subscribe to whichever premium network decides to revive firefly for a price cheaper per episode than what they paid for the dvd. When you consider how many of those 600,000 dvds were borrowed and viewed by friends and family who also became very interested in the series but simply didn't see any point in spending another $50 to purchase another dvd set when they already had easy access to one, as well as the number of fans that became dedicated fans of the shows but simply didn't want to spend $50 on a dvd set when they already viewed the series for free on Fox and could rewatch the episodes for free on the scifi channel, it's pretty easy to see why the actual number of new subscribers to the premium network might actually be closer to a million.

Better yet, have the Sci-Fi Channel do it. I bet the ratings were good despite the time slot.

I think its too late. The sets are probably all struck and the cast has moved on. Furthermore, the movie was not a hit.

Hard to make such a case after the movie bombed.

Signed. I saw "Serenity" in the theater with my wife before we really knew anything about it. We loved it and bought the DVD set of "Firefly" soon after. What a great show! I cannot recommend it enough...

Hard to expect success out of a TV show or movie when its lack of marketing is setting it up for failure from the start.

The movie business sucks right now and probably in the future as well. The future for other than Blockbusters like Starwars etc. will be in PPV or straight to DVD.

Firefly is a specialty product that would do well on Sci-Fi.

Hey, at least if HBO picked up a new season they could have nudity. Considering that all of the women in the show are very hot, this would probably double their viewers and more people would find out that it was actually a very funny show. But you have to admit that a western space opera is a fairly strange combination and takes a little getting used to.

I signed!!! I LOVE this series!!! The character interaction is the best I've seen on any series.

Speaking of the Sci-Fi channel...isn't it about time someone came up with a Horror Channel???
