Israel recently learned from its agents inside Iran — presumably native informants working with Mossad — that Iran’s nuclear scientists had successfully completed tests of their design of a nuclear weapon. This meant that Iran was potentially only weeks away from being able to produce such a weapon, and that intolerable threat had to be dealt with without delay. Iran Revolutionary Guard chief Hossein Salami has been killed in an Israeli strike, Iranian state media is reporting. He is among several senior leaders who have died in the attack. Fereydoon Abbasi, the former head of head of the Atomic Energy Organization has also been killed, state media has reported. As we reported earlier, an Israeli official said that its strikes targeted "Iran's nuclear programme and other military targets".

JERUSALEM (AP) — Iranian state television says the head of Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard is feared dead after an Israeli attack.The report offered few other details about what happened to Gen. Hossein Salami of the Guard.The report on air added that one other top Guard officials, as well as two nuclear scientists were also feared dead.State television also reported the attack set the headquarters of Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard ablaze.
