DURHAM, N.C. -- Mike Nifong is now officially out of a job after submitting resignation letter to Governor Mike Easley Monday morning. The disbarred and disgraced former DA had submitted a resignation letter that said his last day would be July 13. But a citizen complaint put pressure on Nifong to make an early departure. Last week, Durham County Judge said in open court that Nifong's options were to either resign or the judge would take action. Even resigning, Mike Nifong still signed his name as District Attorney in the letter. The letter wasn't enough for Durham resident Beth Brewer....

DURHAM, N.C. --For the second time this month, disgraced prosecutor Mike Nifong was called into a courtroom to defend his handling of the discredited Duke lacrosse rape case. This time, he didn't show up. Having already been disbarred, suspended from office and replaced by his old boss - not to mention having already offered to resign July 13 - Nifong apparently didn't see the point of Thursday's hearing. From an undisclosed location out of state, he promised to return Monday and resubmit his resignation, making it effective immediately. During a brief hearing, at which no one sat at the defendant's...

Tuesday, April 17, 2007 Just before the Attorney General of North Carolina appeared on television to announce his decision on the Duke University "rape" case, one of the many expert TV legal commentators said that Attorney General Roy Cooper would probably use the words "insufficient evidence" but not the word "innocent" in dismissing the case. As it turned out, the Attorney General did use the word "innocent," saying that he and his staff considered the accused students innocent. It was the only decent thing to do. Anything less would have let the ugly accusation follow them for life and, years...

Democratic Presidential candidate John Edwards' spoke exclusively to CBS 2 on Wednesday morning about the Don Imus and Rutgers University controversy, and though he feels Imus deserves a second chance, he wasn't so sure about his future on Imus' popular radio show. Edwards' campaign trail took a stop in New York today where he worked side-by-side with health care aides in a Westchester nursing. There, he took time to talk to CBS 2 Political Reporter Marcia Kramer about the Imus fallout. "I believe in redemption, I believe in forgiveness," Edwards said of Imus, who was suspended earlier in the week...
