The documents are fake. Unless you are Dan Rather, you know it with a near certainty. So now for the interesting questions. Who faked these documents? What is their origin? Who gave them to CBS? The secretary for the squadron commander purported to be the author of now-disputed memorandums questioning President Bush's service in the Texas Air National Guard said Tuesday that she never typed the documents and believed that they are fakes.

Critics are calling the media scandal over the Jerry Killian forgeries "Rathergate." But to thousands of Vietnam veterans, the real Rathergate took place 16 years ago when Dan Rather successfully foisted a fraud onto the American people. Then, unlike now, there was no blogosphere to expose him.

I'm listening to the Hugh Hewitt radio show and he just interviewed Congressman Cox of California who raised the very real prospect of a Congressional Hearing concerning "Forgery Gate". Jeff Goldstein wrote a post yesterday about a reference in the August 18, 1973 memo to something called an "OETR". I just finished watching the all-star round table discussion with Brit Hume, Fred Barnes, Mort Kondracke, and Mara Liasson on Fox.
