There was intense competition today to rescue items, many of them worth considerable amounts of money, from containers washed ashore from a stricken freighter. There were reports of threats and squabbling as people sought to secure the most valuable items, including £12,000 brand new BMW motorcycles. Woman in court on recycle charges    Donna Challice denies six charges A 30-year-old mother of three has appeared before magistrates in Devon accused of failing to recycle household waste properly.Donna Challice, of Wonford, Exeter, is being prosecuted for contaminating recyclable rubbish under the Environmental Protection Act. She denies six charges brought by Exeter City Council in what is thought to be the first case of its kind. The case was adjourned by Cullompton magistrates for two weeks. A RETIRED social worker was jailed yesterday for seven days for refusing to pay a £53.71 increase in her council tax. Sylvia Hardy, a 73-year-old spinster, had refused all offers of help from well-wishers. She was making a stand in the hope of forcing the Government to reconsider an unjust tax, she said. The find includes swords and rapiers, palstave axe heads, an adze, a cauldron handle, and a gold bracelet.
