A pro-life group at a New Jersey university gained official status following a two-year battle and three denials by the student government. The new Students for Life chapter at the New Jersey Institute of Technology “has officially been recognized and approved,” Students for Life of America Press Strategist Caroline Wharton wrote in an email last week to The College Fix. “The school’s prospective Students for Life of America (SFLA) group is looking forward to finally having official campus status after being wrongfully denied three times by their Student Senate,” SFLA had written in an earlier blog post.

The headline in the Scottish Daily Express succinctly summarizes the reaction to a recent invention by Australian Dr. Philip “Death” Nitschke: “Outrage as scientist backs gas chamber ‘death pod’ scheme for Scotland.” Nitschke has become notorious over the past several years due to his high-profile promotion of his “do-it-yourself death pods,” airtight capsule-shaped pods in which the suicidal can seal themselves and release a nitrogen gas that will knock them out in 60 seconds and kill them within 10. It is not as swift a death as the lethal injection method but does have the benefit of ensuring that other...

wenty students have committed suicide in India this past week after the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) announced their exam scores, which Khaleejtimes reported have been marked in controversy after there were discrepancies in the results. Nearly 1 million students took the exams between February and March, and nearly 350,000 failed, causing widespread protests from parents, student groups and political parties. One student named Sirisha was failing biology and set herself on fire at her home in the Narayanpet district on Saturday after her parents went out to the fields, according to Khaleejtimes. On Thursday, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao...

Modern-day Mexico City is built on top of centuries of previous settlements, so it's not unusual for ancient tombs to occasionally be uncovered beneath the city's streets. It is, however, strange to find 10 ancient skeletons arranged in a spiral with their bodies interlocked, as archaeologists recently did. The 2,400-year-old burial was discovered during salvage excavations of an ancient village beneath the campus of the Pontifical University of Mexico, in southern Mexico City, the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) announced.

Normally, when we get a press release from a local theater company about its latest work, the press release includes, you know, the name of the play. But Philly theater company Lightning Rod Special bucked that trend this week went they sent us a notice announcing its musical comedy about abortion, which debuts in August at the Painted Bride. “We were going with ‘Fetus Chorus,’” explains co-creator Alice Yorke, pictured below. “But there were a lot of mixed feelings about it. The best comment we got was, ‘I understand you want to provoke your audience, but do you want to...

A total of 111 people in California took their own lives using lethal prescriptions during the first six months of a law that allows terminally ill people to request life-ending drugs from their doctors, according to data released Tuesday. A snapshot of the patients who took advantage of the law mirrors what’s been seen in Oregon, which was the first state to legalize the practice nearly two decades ago. Though California is far more diverse than Oregon, the majority of those who have died under aid-in-dying laws in both states were white, college-educated cancer patients older than 60. The End...

Judges at the European Court of Human Rights have rejected a plea from the parents of terminally-ill baby Charlie Gard.... Chris Gard and Connie Yates lost their final legal bid to take their son to the US for treatment....... His parents had previously seen a Supreme Court challenge to continue Charlie's life support fail. European court judges have now concluded it was most likely Charlie was 'being exposed to continued pain, suffering and distress" and undergoing experimental treatment with "no prospects of success--would offer no benefit." They said the application presented by the parents was "inadmissible" and said the court's...

The female university student, 19, was raped and sexually assaulted after she was booted out of Birmingham nightspot Snobs in February last year. She became separated from her friends after being ejected by bouncers who saw her collapse at the venue. She added: "Abbas, you took her virginity from her which can never be reclaimed, you took her innocence and ruined her time in Birmingham. She also criticised the management at Snobs - which is one of Britain's longest-running nightclubs.

...You supported Obama. How do you think he’s done? I think he’s fantastic. He’s my favorite president, hands down, of my lifetime. He’s been awesome this past year. Especially the rapid, one-after-another-after-another-after-another aspect of it. It’s almost like take no prisoners. His he-doesn’t-give-a-shit attitude has just been so cool. Everyone always talks about these lame-duck presidents. I’ve never seen anybody end with this kind of ending. All the people who supported him along the way that questioned this or that and the other? All of their questions are being answered now.

While Thursday’s ruling overturning buffer zones outside abortion clinics pleased pro-life activists, Justice Antonin Scalia thinks it didn’t go far enough. The court unanimously agreed that the Massachusetts law, which barred protesters and counselors from being within 35 feet of abortion clinics, violated the First Amendment, but denied that it unfairly discriminated against abortion opponents. “Today’s opinion carries forward this Court’s practice of giving abortion-rights advocates a pass when it comes to suppressing the free-speech rights of their opponents,” wrote Justice Antonin Scalia, with whom Justices Anthony Kennedy and Clarence Thomas concurred. “There is an entirely separate, abridged edition of...

Abortion – the “life-sustaining act” of the ages. That’s the theme behind an exhibit currently on display at the University of Michigan dedicated to defending and glamorizing the history of abortion. “4000 Years for Choice is an exhibition of posters about the age-old practices of abortion and contraception as a means to reclaim reproductive freedom as a deeply personal and life-sustaining act existing throughout all of human history,” states a university webpage describing the exhibit. The exhibit will be showcased through May 29 in the main lobby of the Lane Hall women’s studies building on campus. The exhibit consists of...

A very sad phenomenon exists today, which is that the left conflates ‘women’s rights’ with killing unborn children in the womb. The two are in fact mutually exclusive, because there are no other rights without the right to life. That is true for unborn baby girls and unborn baby boys. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL)15%, a leftist poster-child, wished Roe v. Wade a happy 41st “birthday” today because of her “commitment to protecting women’s rights,” while women and men, young and old, marched on the National Mall toward the Supreme Court to defend life. wassermanschulzHas she stopped to think of...

FARMVILLE, Va. (WTVR)—The drive-thru itself was an innovative concept, but at this one, it’s unlikely you can order any fries or a shake. Carl Eggleston of Farmville believes in innovation when it comes to his funeral business. After 30 years in the business, he’s seen some changes and he’s tried to be one who keeps up with the times and needs of families. Next month he’ll have cameras installed in the chapel, so services can be viewed online for family out-of-state.

A federal judge has ruled that the Unites States government must make the most common morning-after pill available over the counter for all ages, instead of requiring a prescription for girls 16 and under. The decision, on a fraught and politically controversial subject, comes after a decade-long fight over who should have access to the pill and under what circumstances, and it counteracts an unprecedented move by the Obama administration's Health and Human Services secretary who in 2011 overruled a recommendation by the Food and Drug Administration to make the pill available for all ages without a prescription.

Rep. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, a candidate for U.S. Senate, defended sex-selective abortions and criticized Senate Republicans for opposing abortions instigated because the fetus is a girl. "To many cultures, particularly the Asian culture, this presented the prospect of a doctor grilling an Asian woman for example," Hirono, a Japanese immigrant, said at the Netroots Nation convention. Hirono made clear that she did not oppose sex-selective abortions. "How can we criminalize a decision that should be up to the woman and her doctor?" she asked. Hirono also maintained that "there really is a war on women in Congress." Although President Obama...

WASHINGTON – In an ironic twist, Planned Parenthood, the health care and industry-leading abortion provider, has joined some of its longtime pro-life antagonists in condemning a Florida jury’s decision to acquit Tot Mom Casey Anthony of murdering her daughter, despite a mountain of evidence to the contrary. While the organization may find itself in agreement with some of its archenemies on the issue of the promiscuous procreator’s alleged actions, it took a very different path in getting there. According to a statement it released, Planned Parenthood believes “This case sets a dangerous precedent. If women can so easily be acquitted...

A number of years ago, I was the victim of a brutal street crime. Although I was left with a broken nose and two black eyes, I learned soon thereafter that I wasn't a "good victim." A progressive friend, Fran, clued me in. When I told her what happened, she said, "What you went through wasn't half as bad as what he has suffered." Fran was referring to the fact that I am white and the assailant was black. In other words, my suffering didn't matter. Fran's reaction is not at all unique in these parts; here, there are good...

Barack Obama has for the second year in a row issued a proclamation declaring June "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month." While prior to his leaving office President George W. Bush issued a Sanctity of Life Day proclamation for 2009, such a proclamation was rejected by President Obama for 2010. The first proclamation of National Sanctity of Human Life Day was made by in 1984 by President Ronal Reagan and repeated annually. The tradition was continued by President George H. W. Bush, suspended during the eight year term of President Bill Clinton, and resumed under President George W. Bush.
