SEATTLE -- King County sheriff's deputies have arrested a 22-year-old Skyway man who allegedly raped a woman he contacted on Craigslist, and detectives believe there may be more victims. Sheriff spokesman John Urquhart said Jermaine L. Route was arrested Friday at his home after being identified by a fingerprint left in the victim's car. Urquhart said the 26-year-old victim was in the Skyway neighborhood on January 7, responding to an ad posted on the Craigslist.org Web site seeking a nude model. When the woman pulled into a parking lot to use her cell phone, a man jumped into her car...

Perpetuating his country's unfortunate association with internet scams, a Nigerian man has turned to a new source for ill-gotten money: home renters. No tall tales of fake Nigerian royalty or bogus inheritances this time; the latest scam simply solicits deposit and rent money from unsuspecting renters. The catch? The "landlord" doesn't own the home. Memphis, Tenn., resident Howard French found that out that hard way when he wired $1,200 to a man in Nigeria who had advertised a house for rent on Craigslist. The "owner" claimed to be in Africa on humanitarian work, and an unsuspecting French took him at...

The court case filed by an Illinois County Sheriff alleging the Craigslist website abets prostitution was thrown out by a federal judge this week. Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart contended that the erotic services portion of the website constituted a "horrific" breach of U.S. law, alleging that the site had facilitated the largest source of prostitution in the country. He also said Craigslist aids underage pimping and human trafficking, ABC News reports. Federal Judge John Grady, however, ruled that the intermediary website cannot be held liable for assisting customers who misuse their service to break the law. "If users routinely...

FLINT, Mich. - Authorities say ads on Craigslist from women looking for "fun" have led to prostitution charges against seven mid-Michigan residents. Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton announced charges Thursday against the six women and one man arrested over the summer. He says they face a variety of felonies and misdemeanors, but all are charged with prostitution -- punishable by up to five years in prison and a $500 fine. Leyton and Sheriff Robert Pickell say that in most cases, the women quoted fees for sex as soon as police posing as customers called phone numbers on Craigslist. A 33-year-old...

Craigslist now requires phone verification to submit ads to the Sporting Goods section. Maybe they're not requiring everyone to do so, but it just required me to verify by phone (recorded code) to be able to post to the sporting goods section. It includes a warning that violation of policy (guns, ammo) will result in suspension of account and blacklisting of the phone number. Ebay bought a large percentage of craigslist and is probably behind some of this. The liberals are in charge. Most Americans have little backbone to fight these people in control. The whole thing is a tragedy.

When our founders created the federal government, I’m pretty sure they didn’t anticipate having its power reach into their carriage houses. Thanks to a particularly asinine piece of legislation called the Consumer Protection Safety Improvement Act, though, we now have federal inspectors threatening to start investigating yard sales and church bazaars. They say they’re just going to focus on thrift stores and Craigslist … for now: If you’re planning a garage sale or organizing a church bazaar, you’d best beware: You could be breaking a new federal law. As part of a campaign called Resale Roundup, the federal government is...

Now is our chance to make health care work. America’s health care system is broken. Health care costs are spiraling out of control, throwing families, businesses and government into financial crisis. We can’t wait for affordable, dependable health care. We’re fighting for health care that will protect families’ financial health, lay out a clear path for all Americans to afford health care, and improve patient safety and quality care. You...

Janet Schulte believed the man when he told her by phone that his 40-something, disabled brother needed a caregiver who could bottle-feed him and change his diapers. What the Melbourne woman can't believe is that he committed no crime, now that she said she has found out the situation was a charade: that the man and his brother were same person. And that he didn't have the disabilities he claimed to have. "I feel violated," Schulte said, sharing her story because she said the man has deceived other women and will try again. "I feel disgusted." Investigators and prosecutors have...
