AMHERST, NY -- It could be the first foul up involving the state's new gun legislation. Who's to blame? That's still being hashed out. The attorney for a Western New York gun owner who was told to surrender his pistol permit because of the SAFE Act says his client will get his guns back. The Erie County Clerk is now blaming New York State Police for making the mistake that could have cost the 35-year-old librarian his gun collection. "Who messed this up?" asked Channel 2's Kelly Dudzik. "I think that first and foremost, it stems from a flawed law...

The Huffington Post recently rated the top 10 most overrated destinations. Chicago made number 7! #7 Chicago Spend a little time in the Windy City and you’ll come to know a people obsessed with the answer to a question nobody else has ever asked: “Is Chicago a world class city?” As a former local, I can help. The answer is no. Chicago is a handsome, reasonably entertaining provincial capital. This used to be enough for Chicagoans, but then it wasn’t, leading to a period of time, beginning around the turn of the new century, during which all manner of foolishness...

Well, I think, after something like, you know, 20 first graders being murdered in their classrooms, you know, it is important to take action. And the American people are demanding action now. You know, the timeline of that, you know, sometimes, especially with a polarized Congress, these things can take a long time.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said that, if you like your gun, you can keep it under President Barack Obama's gun control plan. He made the comments today aboard Air Force One, en route to a speech on gun control in Colorado. "As you know, and as everyone who is an expert on this issue can attest, there is not a single thing that the President has proposed that would take a single firearm away from a single law-abiding citizen in America," Carney told reporters, according to a transcript provided by the White House. "This President supports our Second Amendment...

DENVER (TheBlaze/AP) — Ratcheting up pressure for Congress to limit access to guns, President Barack Obama said Wednesday that recent steps by Colorado to tighten its gun laws show “there doesn’t have to be a conflict” between keeping citizens safe and protecting Second Amendment rights to gun ownership. “I believe there doesn’t have to be a conflict in reconciling these realities,” Obama said in Denver, where he stepped up his call for background checks for all gun purchases and renewed his demand that Congress at least vote on banning assault weapons and limiting access to large-capacity ammunition magazines. The president...

Three bills aimed at tightening control on law enforcement were advanced Tuesday by the Judiciary Committee for debate by the full Legislature. All three bills are by Sen. Ernie Chambers of Omaha, a frequent critic of law enforcement. The first bill (LB541) would make public all hearings and documents produced from an arbitration hearing involving disciplinary action against a law enforcement officer. Now, the process is closed. Chambers has said taxpayers have the right to total disclosure of how public employees are behaving -- and misbehaving.

People across the political spectrum, from left to right and back again, seem to revel in perverse delight when comparing the policies of a political foe to those of the Nazis. Sometimes, they will skip the group comparisons and head straight into drawing personal parallels between the individual in question and Adolf Hitler. The practice is so onerous that, in the Dark Ages of the internet (1990), an attorney for the Electronic Frontier Foundation named Mike Godwin coined what has become known as Godwin's Law. It states that, the longer and more involved an argument becomes, the more likely a...

(Reuters) - The Federal Aviation Administration said on Friday it will close 149 air traffic control towers at small airports across the country beginning on April 7 as it copes with automatic federal spending cuts. The White House and transportation leaders have warned for weeks that the $85 billion in federal cuts known as "sequestration" would force smaller airports across the country to curtail operations. The across-the-board cuts started kicking in on March 1 because Congress was not able to reach an alternative budget deal to replace them. The FAA must absorb $637 million in cuts by September 30. Transportation...

The Obama administration envisions a “low-carbon, low-petroleum” future where Americans tele-work, tele-shop, walk, bike and use carpools or mass transit if they must leave the neighborhood at all. A study released Friday says the U.S. has the potential to reduce petroleum use and pollution in the transportation sector by more than 80 percent by 2050. In other words, gasoline-powered cars may go the way of the dinosaur, and many Americans may end up living in planned, mixed-use, “walkable” neighborhoods, built along mass transit lines. … Higher densities (more people living in the same area in smaller homes), a mix of...

I have seen jaw-dropping acts of journalistic debauchery and blatant disregard for reality since the gun debate exploded in the wake of Sandy Hook. I have seen past precedents rewritten in order to falsely diminish gun rights arguments. I have seen dishonest and volatile tactics used to misdirect discussion and attack the character, rather than the position, of those who defend the 2nd Amendment. I have seen gun grabbers use unbelievable acts of deception that border on clinically sociopathic in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

On a dark day in our nation's history -September 28, 1868- a mob of crazed, racist Democrats slaughtered 300+ African-American Republicans at Opelousas, Louisiana... The gruesome series of events was started when a group of Democrats attacked a newspaper editor, a white Republican and school-teacher of ex-slaves. When some African-Americans rushed to the assistance of a friend under attack, the Democrats doubled-down and went on a 'Negro hunt'... ethnically-cleansing the town and environs of ever single black man, woman, and child they were able to track-down. But none of the besieged blacks had guns with which to defend themselves nor their families- the Democrats had taken them. Today,...
