. . . . . Friday night -- tonight -- we are getting crazy. It's the FIRST ever contest competition Awards Ceremony on The Andrea Shea King Show. (and depending... hmmm, it could be our last.) Big Fur Hat at our favorite hangout has appointed "moi" the arbiter of bad....er, good taste in an ADULTS ONLY ribald competition titled: "Assign a porn industry name to a politician or celebrity!" More than 500 entries have been submitted. Ooh la la! Am I up to the task? Well... in the words of a certain maligned Alaskan, "You betcha!". And with the able...

***Update: Now $125 thanks to Joan of Argghh! I've been complaining for some time now that the label Republican In Name Only, and its acronym, RINO, are ineffectual to say the least. My topmost reason is that a dichotomy exists in the word republican. Conservatives think of republicans as representing the people who elected them, with an eye fixed on protecting and preserving the American constitution with its limits on government and its recognition of personal rights. Progressives think of republicans as elitist and doing what they think is right no matter what the common folk think, and "The...

Sheriff Joe Arpaio Holds Prison-Wide Christmas Caroling Contestby Alex Alvarez | 3:11 pm, December 21st, 2010 Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio is famous, to put it somewhat euphemistically, for thinking outside the pen when it comes to punishing his state’s criminals. Now the man who made headlines for making inmates don pink underwear is in the news yet again, this time for organizing a caroling contest among inmates, with the most angelic rendition of “All I Want for Christmas is You” winning a festive Christmas dinner. Arpaio has drawn criticism — not to mention a few lawsuits — for another Christmas...

Richard Gilbert is a Toronto-based consultant who focuses on energy and transportation. His latest book is Transport Revolutions: Moving People and Freight without Oil, written with Anthony Perl. My last post suggested that two types of transportation fuel could replace oil products. One kind – including natural gas and biofuels – could be used in versions of the internal combustion engines (ICEs) that today provide propulsion for almost all road vehicles. The other alternative fuel – electricity – would require a switch to electric motors (EMs) for propulsion. I concluded that electricity is the best alternative, especially where there is...

A MUSICIAN who lost both arms in a childhood accident and plays the piano with his toes has won China's Got Talent, performing his version of James Blunt's wistful love song You're Beautiful to a packed audience at the Shanghai Stadium. All three judges on the show on Sunday praised Liu Wei, 23, for his determination, urging him to keep pursuing his dreams, and the Beijing native said he would try, quipping: "At least I have a pair of perfect legs." For winning the Chinese version of the show, he will be invited to play as a guest performer with...

Time for another contest! This one is based on the old word search standard, but, there are two hurdles! First, you have to find the appropriate words. And secondly, you have to show Bruce where the words lie in the puzzle. Let’s start with the puzzle itself…

A HUNDRED years ago it was perhaps already possible to discern the rising powers whose interaction and competition would shape the 20th century. The sun that shone on the British empire had passed midday. Vigorous new forces were flexing their muscles on the global stage, notably America, Japan and Germany. Their emergence brought undreamed-of prosperity; but also carnage on a scale hitherto unimaginable. Now digest the main historical event of this week: China has officially become the world’s second-biggest economy, overtaking Japan. In the West this has prompted concerns about China overtaking the United States sooner than previously thought. But...

Ramygala, a Lithuanian village 150 kilometers from the capital Vilnius, hosted a weird beauty contest to crown the most beautiful goat. On July 5th, the inhabitants of Ramygala gathered on the outskirts of the village to watch the traditional goat beauty contest held to commemorate the 640th anniversary of the village, which is this year’s capital of Lithuanian culture. The goat has been the symbol of Ramygala ever since medieval times, and it’s still valued by the locals. A total of 13 goats entered the beauty contest, but only one of them claimed the title of “most beautiful goat in...

Morgan County WV is having a flag contest and there were 3 finalists out of 24 submitted designs. My design is Flag 1 in the contest. I am urging people to vote for it at http://www.morgancountywv.gov/gov/flagpoll.html# Problems with the other flags are: Flag 3: It shows Morgan for whom the county was named for. I don't think he ever lived in the county though and portraits of people are inappropriate for flags. Flag 2: It doesn't have the standard 3 by 5 dimension, but rather has a 3.9 by 5 dimension, it has too many colors, too much small print,...

Anticipating a furor of voter criticism over the July Fourth recess, Democratic lawmakers from the border region shot back at the White House last week, challenging the president’s speech on immigration in which he said that the southern border is secure. Arizona Democratic Reps. Ann Kirkpatrick, Harry Mitchell and Gabrielle Giffords joined a growing Republican chorus in denouncing President Barack Obama for not pushing for more specific action in his Thursday speech on the nation’s immigration and border security issues.

I have a friend who is a fellow conservative in a world of liberals and asked me to help them out. Her 9-year old Child has designed a re-usable bag for the Kroger Company, the winner will have their design be on all the bags nationwide at King Soopers, Smiths, Krogers, etc.. The design goes with the phrase "HE's got the whole world in his hands" which is a Christian message among all the liberal and far-left wing messages on the other bags. If fellow freepers can help us out by voting daily I would appreciate it! The link is:...

Shock jock Howard Stern lines up lovers of Tiger Woods for $100,000 beauty contestChris Ayres, Los Angeles February 24, 2010 As if Tiger Woods’s apology last week for his serial philandering wasn’t enough of a public humiliation, several of his former mistresses have agreed to take part in a beauty pageant in which they will compete for a $100,000 (£65,000) prize. The Tiger Woods Mistress Beauty Pageant, organised by the US shock jock Howard Stern, will be held on March 10. So far, only four of the golfer’s former mistresses — out of the 13 identified in the press —...

TSA Logo Contest Over at "Ask the Pilot," Patrick Smith has a great idea: Calling all artists: One thing TSA needs, I think, is a better logo and a snappy motto. Perhaps there's a graphic designer out there who can help with a new rendition of the agency's circular eagle-and-flag motif. I'm imagining a revised eagle, its talons clutching a box cutter and a toothpaste tube. It says "Transportation Security Administration" around the top. Below are the three simple words of the TSA mission statement: "Tedium, Weakness, Farce."Let's do it. I'm announcing the TSA Logo Contest. Rules are simple: create...
