But one entrant, Jason M. Allen of Pueblo West, Colo., didn’t make his entry with a brush or a lump of clay. He created it with Midjourney, an artificial intelligence program that turns lines of text into hyper-realistic graphics. Mr. Allen’s work, “Théâtre D’opéra Spatial,” took home the blue ribbon in the fair’s contest for emerging digital artists — making it one of the first A.I.-generated pieces to win such a prize, and setting off a fierce backlash from artists who accused him of, essentially, cheating. Reached by phone on Wednesday, Mr. Allen defended his work. He said that he...

A TikTok influencer and beauty queen from Toronto, Canada, died after skydiving in her first solo course last weekend. Tanya Pardazi, 21, fell to her death on August 27 while completing a jump at Skydive Toronto in Innisfil, Ontario. The skydiving school requires students to finish a day of ground training before attempting a solo dive, CTV News Toronto reported. Pardazi, a philosophy student at the University of Toronto, had opened her parachute too late during her dive. Skydive Toronto said in a statement posted to Facebook that Pardazi "released a quickly rotating main parachute at a low altitude without...

Before you go out and have a few more boating accidents over that insanely divisive speech Biden gave in Philadelphia last night, let's take a moment to appreciate the aesthetic that the Dems set up for his primetime address. Ben Shapiro @benshapiro · Follow That was the most demagogic, outrageous, and divisive speech I have ever seen from an American president. Joe Biden essentially declared all those who oppose him and his agenda enemies of the republic. Truly shameful. ********************************************************** Look at the framing and lighting on this one. Truly inspirational. Independence Hall painted blood red with Marines flanking the...

Chinese tech giant Baidu is developing its own quantum computer to compete with the United States in the race toward next-generation information processing. The computer does not outperform rivals currently being developed in America but, according to one expert, signals dire competition over the future of data security.A 3D Illustration of a futuristic computer processor. (James Thew/Adobe Stock)Arthur Herman, a senior fellow at the conservative think tank Hudson Institute, said that Baidu’s recently announced quantum effort fell short of similar efforts being made by companies like Google and IBM.“This quantum computer that they’re touting has only 10 qubits, and that’s...

Japan’s digital minister, who’s vowed to rid the bureaucracy of outdated tools from the hanko stamp to the fax machine, has now declared “war” on a technology many haven’t seen for decades — the floppy disk. The hand-sized, square-shaped data storage item, along with similar devices including the CD or even lesser-known mini disk, are still required for some 1,900 government procedures and must go, digital minister Taro Kono wrote in a Twitter post Wednesday. “We will be reviewing these practices swiftly,” Kono said in a news conference Tuesday, adding that Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has offered his full support....

Watch out: someone is spreading cryptocurrency-mining malware disguised as legitimate-looking applications, such as Google Translate, on free software download sites and through Google searches. The cryptomining Trojan, known as Nitrokod, is typically disguised as a clean Windows app and works as the user expects for days or weeks before its hidden Monero-crafting code is executed. It's said that the Turkish-speaking group behind Nitrokod – which has been active since 2019 and was detected by Check Point Research threat hunters at the end of July – may already have infected thousands of systems in 11 countries. What's interesting is that the...

The day after Mark Zuckerberg said that Facebook limited a polarizing story ahead of the 2020 election because of an FBI warning, the federal agency said it can only alert a private entity of a potential threat, not require it to take action. In an episode of the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast made available Thursday, Zuckerberg said that although the FBI didn't specifically name a New York Post article about Hunter Biden's laptop, it "fit the pattern" of what the FBI warned about. The Facebook cofounder said the FBI is a "legitimate institution" and that the warning prompted him to...

Three purchases made by spouse on August 18, 2022 for $54.42, 49.04, and 8.65 were double-debited to our checking account by Amazon, resulting in a $126.14 overcharge within one week, which its Customer Care Center assured us, on Saturday, August 20, would be credited back to the checking account within 3-5 days. However, as of Friday, August 26 seven days later, no such credit had been received. (Spouse orders from Amazon on an almost weekly basis. We spend a lot of money at that site.) A second call to Amazon just this morning resulted in an hour and fifteen minutes...

Today is August 25th in many parts of the world, which means that Linux is turning 31 years old, so join me in celebrating Linux’s 31st birthday with a glass of good champagne and a delicious cake! While some don’t recognize August 25th as Linux’s birthday, I do. It was on August 25th, 1991, when 21-year-old Finnish student Linus Benedict Torvalds made his now-famous announcement on the comp.os.minix newsgroup that he’s working on a free operating system for 386(486) AT clones, just as a “hobby.”Hello everybody out there using minix –I’m doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won’t be...

Former President Donald Trump’s social media outfit, Truth Social, is locked in a bitter battle with one of its vendors claiming that the platform is stiffing the company out of more than $1 million in contractually obligated payments, FOX Business has learned. If the allegations are true, they would suggest that Truth Social’s finances are in significant disarray, people with direct knowledge of the matter say. Internet infrastructure company RightForge is said to be among Truth Social’s largest vendors and creditors, these people say. In October, RightForge announced it entered into an agreement to host Truth Social, which Trump helped...

A few years ago the young Japanese Akihiko Kondou made headlines around the world for their striking marriage. The young man married Hatsune Miku, or rather, hatsune miku hologram. Hatsune Miku is a virtual singer extremely famous, who fills stadiums with her music and has accompanied artists such as Lady Gaga on their tours. However, she remains a completely artificial character but that hasn’t stopped Kondo from declaring his love for her by making her his wife. Your case is one of many fictosexuals, people attracted to fictional characters. This sexual orientation is particularly popular in Japan, a country where...

Yeah, it’s funny to remember the days when Google’s corporate motto was “Don’t be evil.” And yet it seems that a lot of the company’s employees don’t think it’s evil enough. They think Google should be a leader of the Moloch List – companies that lavish time and money on employees to kill their unborn children. In the antiseptic, NARAL-approved language of The Washington Post, “Google staffers are calling on the tech giant to take greater steps to protect workers’ reproductive health, including by expanding travel benefits for medical services to contractors and halting political donations to antiabortion groups.” Google...

Mozilla has made its stance on abortion clear. In a blog posted on its website Wednesday, the company said it reviewed 25 period and pregnancy tracker apps. Mozilla warned that 18 of the 25 apps “have opaque privacy protection.” The apps have a warning label of “*Privacy Not Included.” Mozilla has expressed concern about the government using information from technology apps to prosecute women who obtain an illegal abortion, despite an absence of evidence that state governments will do this. “Companies collecting personal and sensitive health information need to be extra diligent when it comes to the privacy and security...

Joe Biden unilaterally announced massive forgiveness of student loans Wednesday afternoon, as reported by The Gateway Pundit. An estimated $300 billion of loans up to $10,000 per borrower making under $125,000 per year ($250,000 for couples) as well as up to $20,000 for Pell Grants will be forgiven by the Biden administration citing a new interpretation of the 2003 HEROES Act by Biden admin lawyers that say the secretary of Education has the authority to use national emergencies–specifically the COVID pandemic–to wipe out student debt en masse. Schumer: “With the flick of a pen, President Biden has taken a giant...

FBI agents were told not to pursue an investigation regarding a laptop that President Joe Biden's son Hunter had apparently abandoned at a computer repair store in Delaware, according to whistleblower claims made public by Sen. Ron Johnson on Wednesday. In a letter to Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz, Sen. Johnson, R-Wis., said that "individuals with knowledge" had contacted his office and told them about the FBI slow-walking the laptop investigation after it was recovered in Delaware in December 2019. "Recently, my office heard from individuals with knowledge of the FBI's apparent corruption. After the FBI obtained the Hunter...

DETROIT (AP) — U.S. securities regulators are questioning Twitter about how it calculates the number of fake accounts on its platform. The law firm Wilson Sonsini of Palo Alto, California, replied in a June 22 letter saying the company believes it adequately disclosed the methodology in its annual report filed for 2021. The letter says that Twitter makes its estimates of false accounts with an internal review of sample accounts. The number of fake accounts “represent the average false or spam accounts in the samples during each monthly analysis period during a quarter,” the letter said. It added that fewer...

Detailed image of the Moon tinged red and gunmetal blue, with craters and on the black backdrop of space. The "ridiculously detailed" image. (Andrew McCarthy/Connor Matherne) Time to upgrade your wallpapers, people. Two astrophotographers have just dropped what they call "the most ridiculously detailed picture" of the Moon – the result of a painstaking, neck-craning effort roughly two years and over 200,000 frames in the making. For millennia, humans have looked up and seen the same silver orb traversing the night sky – but never quite like this. As space photography enthusiast Andrew McCarthy says of his collaboration with planetary...
