It is not uncommon these days to read news articles about breakthrough energy technologies that have the potential to change the energy complex as we know it. There are many researchers working on developing cold fusion, batteries, solar panels, microgenerators, artificial photosynthesis, etc. and every now and then we will hear announcements of important findings that scientists have made. In almost all cases however, the discoveries reporte are made on the experimental level, in laboratory settings and much more time, money and work is required before commercialization will be possible. It seems though that more often than not these technologies...

The saga of Andrea Rossi's cold fusion technology (called the Energy Catalyzer or E-Cat) continues to accelerate. His game changing technology consumes tiny quantities of nickel and hydrogen to produce huge quantities of clean, safe, and cheap energy. Unlike conventional fission based nuclear power, no radioactive materials are used and no nuclear waste is produced. Multiple companies are now positioning themselves to market the E-Cat, both in Europe and the Americas. One of these companies is Defkalion Green Technologies which is based in Greece. Another is company is Ampenergo, which is located in the United States. Defkalion Green Technologies has...

Dr Dennis Bushnell, chief scientist at NASA’s Langley research center told New Energy Times today that NASA is attempting a low-energy nuclear reaction replication. “Our experiments are based upon the earlier Piantelli-Focardi work, which were some of the better bits extant,” Bushnell wrote. “But we are trying to core down on the theory, as well as utilize it for system optimization. We are not trying to do a net energy demo at all, we are simply trying to make sure there is a valid theoretical understanding.” Bushnell told New Energy Times that their LENR experimental approach is based on the...

There is a category of inventions called disruptive technology. Funding streams allotted to this sector award designers who innovate based on radical departures from incremental change. A cursory search of disruptive technology will yield many examples, most of which are IT-oriented, such as breakthroughs in social networking, cloud computing, and cyber security. You will find little to no mention of the most disruptive technology of all, cold fusion, even as the first commercial device is poised to be installed later this year. Defkalion Green Technologies based in Athens, Greece holds the world rights, excepting the Americas, for Andrea A. Rossi’s...

The Italian energy catalyzer that seems to be based on an unknown nuclear reaction is now patented in Italy. The examination continues regarding protection in the rest of the world. The Italian Patent Office, Ufficio Italiano Brevetti e Marchi, granted a patent for the energy catalyzer on April 6, 2011, valid until April 9, 2028. The inventor is Andrea Rossi, while his wife Maddalena Pascucci is the patent owner. The final content of the patent is public but not directly available online (details on how to order the content can be found here). According to Rossi ten of the original...

Prof. Stremmenos is a scientist in Greece and former ambassador to Italy. He discusses the Rossi and Focardi energy catalyzer in an interview Professor Christos Stremmenos is the man who brought cold fusion to Greece, and worked with the Greek government to set up the factory that will manufacture the "Energy Catalyzer" reactors which Andrea Rossi and Sergio Focardi invented and tested, and which will produce a 1-megawatt power plant. Professor Stremmenos is Vice-President of Defkalion.

Ny Teknik recently participated in two new tests of the Italian ‘energy catalyzer’, providing more accurate measurements to reduce possible error sources. Ny Teknik tested the energy catalyzer The new tests with the energy catalyzer, which seems to generate heat by an unknown nuclear reaction, took place in Bologna on 19 and 28 April, 2011. As in previous tests the objective was to measure the net energy that the device generates as accurately as possible.

It didn’t take long for someone to translate the May 3 RAI television feature on Andrea Rossi and his E-Cat invention from the original Italian into English. The program shows a demonstration of the device and and also includes interviews with Rossi and some of his colleagues, including Sergio Focardi, Sven Kullander and Hanno Essen who discuss the E-Cat and how it has been developed. A portion of the video discusses Rossi’s history with a company he started called called Petroldragon. He made a failed attempt to create a process that would turn industrial waste into oil, and which ended...

I spend much of my time debunking the free energy fantasies of my less technically competent friends. Wishful thinking makes many believe that cars can run on water after seeing a brief youtube video. Lately, however, I have been undergoing an exciting paradigm shift. Remember the “cold fusion” fiasco of 1989? Well, I have come to realize that it wasn’t what it seemed at all. Denial, groupthink, dirty tricks and easily manipulated media combined to create an historical injustice. Two decades have been wasted virtually ignoring this game-changing discovery. Today’s environmental disasters, expensive energy and oil wars could possibly have...

While there are no fully functioning power plants running on Andrea Rossi’s E-Cat technology to provide conclusive proof of the veracity of Mr. Rossi’s claims, I believe that he has put enough evidence now in the public domain to conclude that we may well have been presented with a new source of power that is more efficient, cheaper and cleaner than any energy source currently in existence.

Yesterday we found out some amazing information. In one of Andrea Rossi's question and answer sessions on his blog he was asked some questions to which he gave some startling answers. How many e-cats are in continuous operation today? - 97 How many geographic locations are e-cats running today? - 4 Are there any e-cats running in the US with businesses you own or individuals you trust? - YES So to recap on this, Rossi is saying that at this moment there are 97 e-cats installed and working accross 4 different countries, with some already installed in the businesses of...

A recent article by Anne Landman providing a thorough description and analysis of Andrea Rossi’s E-Cat has an interesting conclusion. “Most of the news about the E-Cat has been reported in blogs operated by people and organizations interested in energy issues, and in the general press and media in Italy, Sweden, Greece and throughout Europe. By contrast, the Energy Catalyzer has received virtually no coverage in the U.S. mainstream media...

There are some indications today that the mainstream scientific community's attitude towards cold fusion and specifically the Rossi/Focardi energy catalyzer may not be as dismissive as some may seem. An article by Natalie Wolchover on the website Life's Little Mysteries today included a review of the E-cat and comments from some leading researchers in the field of nuclear science -- and an interesting invitation was extended by one of them.

This FAQ covers Andrea Rossi's technology, which combines small amounts of ubiquitous and safe Nickel and Hydrogen in the presence of proprietary catalyst under pressure and heat to generate a large amount of heat. It also addresses questions about the commercialization under way. FAQ What is the Energy Catalyzer? It is a "Cold Fusion" device developed by Italian engineer and inventor Andrea Rossi. It produces heat by placing nickel powder of very small particle size (nano-meters to micro-meters) in a pressurized hydrogen environment along with currently undisclosed (for proprietary reasons) catalysts that enhance the reaction. When this environment is heated...

Few people in the world have about Andrea Rossi’s “energy catalyzer” (E-cat) technology which, if validated, would provide useful power in a much cheaper way than in currently possible. The main reason for this is that there has been precious little coverage of this story in the mainstream media. The media outlet that has provided most information about the Rossi device is the Swedish NyTeknik site. They have held live Q&A’s with Rossi and recently interviewed two respected Swedish physics professors who visited Rossi in Italy and observed testing of the E-cat. There is however a growing amount of interest...

In a detailed report, two Swedish physicists exclude chemical reactions as the energy source in the Italian ‘energy catalyzer’. The two physicists recently supervised a new test of the device in Bologna, Italy. Essén and Professor Emeritus at Uppsala University Sven Kullander, also chairman of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences’ Energy Committee, both participated on 29 March as observers at a new trial in Bologna of the so-called ‘energy catalyzer’, which could be based on cold fusion, or LENR, Low Energy Nuclear Reaction. Participants included the inventor of the device, Andrea Rossi, his scientific advisor Professor Sergio Focardi, and...

In a detailed report, two Swedish physicists exclude chemical reactions as the energy source in the Italian ‘energy catalyzer’. The two physicists recently supervised a new test of the device in Bologna, Italy. (Swedish version here, Italian translation here). “In some way a new kind of physics is taking place. It’s enigmatic, but probably no new laws of nature are involved. We believe it is possible to explain the process with known laws of nature,” said Hanno Essén, associate professor of theoretical physics and a lecturer at the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology and chairman of the Swedish Skeptics Society.
