NASA Working on LENR Replication and Theory Confirmation
New Energy Times Blog ^ | May 6 2011 | Steven B. Krivit

Dr Dennis Bushnell, chief scientist at NASA’s Langley research center told New Energy Times today that NASA is attempting a low-energy nuclear reaction replication.

“Our experiments are based upon the earlier Piantelli-Focardi work, which were some of the better bits extant,” Bushnell wrote. “But we are trying to core down on the theory, as well as utilize it for system optimization. We are not trying to do a net energy demo at all, we are simply trying to make sure there is a valid theoretical understanding.”

Bushnell told New Energy Times that their LENR experimental approach is based on the nickel-hydrogen research of Francesco Piantelli, retired from the University of Siena, and Sergio Focardi, retired from the University of Bologna.

The theory NASA is evaluating is the “Ultra-Low-Momentum Neutron Catalyzed Theory of LENRs” developed by Allan Widom and Lewis Larsen. New Energy Times has a dedicated “portal” page for information about this theory.

What does this have to do with NASA’s prime mission of promoting Islam?

Very interesting. I doubt NASA would be announcing this if they hadn’t already achieved a certain level of results.

Vindication for the late Dr. Eugene Mallove? Could be!

Cheers

I don't know about that Doc. NASA, like any beauracracy, needs to stay relevent. Don't get me wrong; I applaude any reasonable attempt at new energy development. Yet, cold or hot fusion seem to be beyond our grasp, as of yet. I remember 30 years ago, scientist predicting that we will have sustainable hot fusion in 10 years. Sill waiting.

LOL.....!

My take is that there are still some patriots and dreamers at NASA, who want that "Star Trek"/"Ad Astra" future, and realize that any such possibility will need large amounts of high density energy.

They also announced they would study the anti gravity effects of superconductors a while back. There were no results prior to the study and no positive results after the studies were completed. I would not read anything into it other than what they are announcing.

Abelard, it is good not to let hope run away with reason. Please share this idea for whatever it could be worth:

Hydrogen peroxide, H2O2, is a substance that can be dissolved in water with any concentration. It can easily be catalyzed to decompose into water, oxygen and 0,196 MJ of heat per mol. This liquid looks very much like water and has no noticeable odour.

I principle we could build a gadget that would be fed water with hydrogen peroxide and produce a lot of heat. Let us call such a device an F-Cat. In the reactor of the F-Cat a catalyst would decompose the peroxide as described. The exit products would look very much like the ones that the E-Cat produces: steam and some hot water. The oxygen would normally not be noticed. But, if you tried to put the hose down into a bucket of cold water (calorimetry!) you would certainly notice that all the “steam” would not condense. In a high water flow low temperature test like the 18-hour one the oxygen would probably also not be noticed unless you put the hose under water.

If we with our F-Cat perform experiments parallel to those that have been done more or less in public with various E-Cats the following peroxide concentrations in weight percent would be required to produce the same net power with the same liquid input.

dec 16 39%
jan 14 39%
feb 21 0,3%
mar 29 39%
apr 19 35%
apr 28 35%

It is interesting to note that the five steam experiments can be described with only two different hydrogen peroxide concentrations. Is it possible that E-Cat = F-Cat?
___________

And your opinion is?

Well, that is ONE way to do a scam. Somewhere there is a 60+ page document listing many others. But I don't "read" Rossi as being out to perpetrate a scam (as your own experience indicates). There are just too many little nuances that point in the other direction. For instance...the "blue control box" is obviously built to control a large number of E-cats (looks like about eight or ten, assuming two PLC's per E-Cat). If you're going to do a scam, why not just build it for just one??

We should get together and start building the ‘scam’ boxes while there’s still a market for them.

This is why I'm not going to start getting excited until the 1MW pilot starts up, and why I would really like it if Rossi would put an e-cat in a suitcase, bring it to an independent scientist's lab, and let it run there for a month plugged into the independent lab's electric outlet and water supply.

Running a hydrogen peroxide scam at a 1MW scale would get really expensive, really fast. Even more so for a 100 MW electrical plant. The real validation is going to be when he cranks up a small to medium scale electric plant (50 to 100 MW). To create fakery at that scale would require more money than he's likely to have access to.

I think he’s way past the stage in his life when he may have considered creating fakery.

snip
In the 1970s and 1980s Rossi was building garbage disposal
facilities that burned household garbage and used the recovered heat. He also learned how to turn garbage into fuel that could be burned in the same way as coal, oil and gas. By 1989 his company, Petroldragon, was making 20 tons of fuel oil a day. Then the attacks began.

Government bureaucrats began by taxing his fuel as if he was producing alcohol, making his fuel extremely expensive. Perhaps they feared loss of some fuel-tax revenue, but the tax rate they hit Rossi with was overkill. Rossi fought the unjust tax, and then the bureaucracy ramped up the level of challenge. The bureaucrats claimed that the garbage stockpile in his factory wasn’t raw material for his process but instead was a fraudulent attempt to hide and treat toxic garbage. He of course had no license for
toxic garbage because he wasn’t doing that. So instead of being thanked and encouraged for trying to produce an ecologically sustainable fuel that didn’t come from petroleum deposits, Rossi was imprisoned on trumped up charges. Later, after one of his companies was forced into bankruptcy, he was again imprisoned—for not paying his creditors.
