BERKELEY, Calif. (Feb. 13) - City council members who were criticized for telling Marine recruiters they don't belong here have moderated their position, saying they oppose the Iraq war but support the troops. The Berkeley City Council voted two weeks ago to send a letter to a downtown recruitment station advising the Marines they were not welcome. After a marathon session that stretched into early Wednesday, the council decided against sending the letter, saying it recognizes recruiters' right to be in Berkeley. The council members say they still strongly oppose the war and the recruitment of young people, but "deeply...

The tireless Melanie Morgan of Move America Forward, who spearheaded the protests and backlash, shares details of the outrageous behavior of the Pinkos–and the Berkeley police force: If I were a headline writer I would describe the situation as CHAOS AND ANARCHY IN BERKELEY today. Not by our side –by the Marine haters and American traitors. The cops were openly hostile toward the people who showed up at 5:00 a.m., never stepping in to protect the patriots from the assaults that took place against elderly folks, Gold Star parents, Blue Star families and Joe and Jane Citizen who were waving...

Berkeley Cops refuse to help Patriots under assault in MLK Park. This just sent to us from Catherine Moy of Move America Forward: Berkeley erupted in violence Tuesday morning when the Communist, terrorist-supporting anti-war group crossed into Martin Luther King Park and assaulted pro-troop individuals. Riot police stood by, but did not stop the assaults. Police agencies did not respond to calls for help. Move America Forward, the nation’s largest pro-troop organization, received permits from the City of Berkeley to hold a daylong demonstration in MLK park against the City Council who passed three outrageous resolutions calling U.S. Marines “unwanted...

February 9, 2008 The troop-bashers in Berkeley, Calif., are at it once more. But this time, the rest of America lashed back. Message to the Left Coast: It's not the 1960s anymore. On Jan. 29, the Berkeley City Council passed several measures targeting the lone Marine recruitment office in town. The antiwar harridans at Code Pink have been picketing the center for months. Last fall, they defaced the building by slapping a sign that read "assasination" (sic) in the military office window. Instead of rising to defend the recruiters' property rights, the city council and mayor voted to sabotage them...

An Orwellian phenomenon if ever there was one, the “Free Speech Movement” flourished at the University of California, Berkeley, in the 1960s. We call it an Orwellian phenomenon because freedom of speech was the last thing the obstreperous little left-wing snots and their professors who participated in the “movement” were interested in. To the “Free Speech Movement,” free speech meant the right to shriek lame-brain slogans and malicious slanders, throwing in some choice obscenities along the way, and shout down any who didn’t agree with your views. This tradition continues at Berkeley. The Berkeley city council has given its approval...

This was a great evening for freeping. The partly cloudy skies gave us a dry Freep and we got more honks and positive reactions from passing motorists than usual. After being gone for a few weeks due to an ankle injury Mary Bell returned with the picture of her grandson Tim, who is serving in Iraq, Mary always holds up the picture along with one of our signs. People always give her the nicest comments when they see her. She is an inspiration to us and we were glad to have her back. Kelly the ever faithful patriot joined us...

Under the weight of a national uproar, two Berkeley City Council members want to rescind an official statement that the U.S. Marines and their recruiting station are "uninvited and unwelcome intruders." Betty Olds and Laurie Capitelli, however, did not move to rescind three other items the council passed last week: giving the protest group Code Pink a free weekly parking space and sound permit; calling on residents to impede the work of any military recruiting station in the city; and asking the city attorney to investigate whether the Marines violate city laws banning discrimination based on sexual orientation. The item...

Society for years has endured the freakish antics of Berkeley dwellers. Naked people streaking in the streets; smelly hippies begging for money as they sing drunken renditions of '60s anti-war songs; adults sitting in trees like a bad zoo exhibit. But the Berkeley City Council and instigators from the extreme left have crossed the line this time. The council Tuesday night passed two anti-military, anti-American resolutions and agreed to send a letter to the city's only Marine recruiting office saying the military are "uninvited intruders." This is treasonous, hateful behavior that steals the First Amendment rights of the Marines, the...
