The Pundit Press Editorial Board has just projected Senator Dan Coats (R) the winner in Indiana's Senatorial election to replace the retiring Evan Bayh. Coats previously served two terms in the 1990's, after he was appointed to replace then-Senator Ben Quayle after the Bush-Quayle ticket routed the Democratic opposition in the 1988 Presidential election.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Republican Dan Coats continues to hold a solid lead in the Indiana Senate race even after being the target of weeks of negative ads that began just after our first poll was taken. The WISH TV Indiana 2010 Election poll shows Coats with an 18 point lead; it’s Coats 53 percent and Democrat Brad Ellsworth 35 percent...

Democrats in Indiana have tried to paint Dan Coats as a lobbyist interloper while Brad Ellsworth has campaigned on the hope that Indiana voters have a case of collective amnesia. The latest Rasmussen survey of likely voters shows that strategy succeeding as well as anyone could have predicted. Coats has a 21-point lead over Ellsworth, who barely makes out of the twenties: Indiana still has the look of a likely Republican Senate pickup, with former Senator Dan Coats remaining comfortably ahead of his Democratic opponent Brad EllsworthThe latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state finds Coats...

In Indiana's Republican primary for U.S. Senate, conservative insurgents got more votes than the GOP establishment. There was only one small problem: the party establishment had just one candidate in the race while the conservatives split their votes between four.

Indiana has not enjoyed such a vigorous debate among conservatives in many years. In the lead-up to the Republican primary on Tuesday, Dan Coats, Marlin Stutzman, Don Bates Jr., John Hostettler, and Richard Behney have given Indiana voters a healthy civics lesson with their arguments over who should be the GOP contender in November for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Democrat Evan Bayh. Because of Bayh’s last-minute decision in February not to run for re-election, state Democratic Party officials had to scramble to find a candidate for next fall’s ballot and officially will select U.S. Rep. Brad Ellsworth...

WASHINGTON -- Former Sen. Dan Coats, running for the open Indiana Senate seat that will be vacated by Evan Bayh (D), said he is running out of a “call of duty,” because he said he believes the current “radical” administration, is “moving this country rapidly toward a European Socialist style of government.” “Wasn’t it Margaret Thatcher that said the whole thing wrong with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money?” Coats, 66, said in an interview here with First Read. Asked if he sees this administration as “moving toward socialism,” Coats said, “I do. I do....

Retiring Sen. Evan Bayh (BY) says voters across the country could deliver "a shock" to Congress if lawmakers don't work in more harmony and drop rampant partisanship. In a nationally broadcast interview Tuesday, the Indiana Democrat said "the extremes of both parties have to be willing to accept compromises" in order to accomplish things for the national good. Bayh denied that he had an interest in running for president and said on ABC's "Good Morning America" he told President Barack Obama on Monday that he would support his re-election. Bayh also said he thinks voters are in a mood to...

The GOP needs to change its public image that voters have. It should not be using retired Senators who moved out of the state and become a lobbyist to do that. We need younger faces and fresher voices. We need guys like Marco Rubio. And we need guys like Marlin Stutzman. Marlin is pro-life. He supports the second amendment. He will be right on spending. He is a perfect fit for Indiana. His farming background is compelling. He’s voted conservatively in the Indiana legislature.

Back in 1988, Sen. Dan Coats, R-Ind., decided not to seek another term rather than take on popular ex-Gov. Evan Byah. With Coats out, Bayh won easily. Coats recently threw his hat into the ring for 2010, setting the stage for the Hoosier State showdown 12 years later. But now Bayh, in a shocker, says he won’t run. The Bayh-Coats angst-no-action drama resembles that of boxing, where top fighters often fail to face each other

EVANSVILLE — John Hostettler has been wearing the tread off his tires crisscrossing the state to get signatures for his U.S. Senate campaign, and he can see no good reason to step aside for former Sen. Dan Coats, R-Ind. Hostettler, a Republican who represented the 8th District in Congress for 12 years until his defeat in 2006, has watched over the past month as national and state Republicans tried to recruit first Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., and now Coats to challenge Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., this year. Coats' statement Wednesday that he had authorized supporters to begin gathering signatures to...

With all the posts we’ve done recently about whether or not Evan Bayh lives in Indiana (and for how long he ever might have lived here), we decided to do a little more digging to see where he lives now. The first place we looked was on the Statement of Candidacy he filed with the Federal Election Commission for the 2010 election cycle. You can see it below if you click on the image for the full screen version.

In the week since Dan Coats announced he was preparing to challenge Democratic Sen. Evan Bayh, Democrats have launched a withering, no-holds-barred assault on the former Republican senator, throwing him off balance and raising questions about whether his prospective candidacy has suffered lasting damage. The oppo research mill began cranking up within hours of word last week that he was readying a campaign for his former Senate seat in Indiana. First came a Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee statement referring to him as a “federally registered lobbyist whose client lists include banks, private equity firms and defense contractors.”

Former Indiana GOP Sen. Dan Coats is launching a political comeback, announcing Wednesday that he’s preparing to challenge Democratic Sen. Evan Bayh in a race that’s poised to be one of the marquee Senate contests of 2010.

INDIANAPOLIS - Informed and reliable sources are telling Howey Politics Indiana that former U.S. Sen. Dan Coats will announce Wednesday he will challenge U.S. Sen. Evan Bayh. The source, former aide Curt Smith of the Indiana Family Institute, said that Coats knows he has about two weeks to gather the 4,500 signatures - 500 per Congressional district - in two weeks. Coats was up for re-election in 1998 when he decided to retire, citing the pressures of constant fundraising. Bayh went on that year to defeat former Fort Wayne Mayor Paul Helmke to reclaim his father's Senate seat. Coats was...

Cheaper than mink or sable - fur coats made from dogs that were skinned alive By Katy Duke and Elizabeth Day (Filed: 18/12/2005) It looks like the must-have item in every glamorous woman's winter wardrobe: a sleek, black fur coat dripping with opulence. But despite the seductive appearance, the coat is not mink or sable. Instead, it has been manufactured from dog fur - possibly from an animal that was drugged and skinned alive to preserve the fur's freshness.
