I Am A Conservative Christian, And The Religious Right Scares Me, Too -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By Chuck Baldwin -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Covenant News ~ December 15, 2004 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For those readers who are unfamiliar with my biography, let me here provide a thumbnail sketch of my conservative bona fides: I attended, graduated, or received degrees from fundamentalist Christian schools such as Midwestern Baptist College in Pontiac, Michigan, Thomas Road Bible Institute (now known as Liberty Bible Institute at Liberty University) in Lynchburg, Virginia, Christian Bible College in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville, Florida. I am currently in my...

PASADENA, Md., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- "All the recent talk about the need for a so-called National Intelligence Director and other additions to the already bloated federal bureaucracy amounts to nothing more than just another reorganization of the government's organizational chart without the benefit of real change," said Michael A. Peroutka, Constitution Party presidential nominee. "One of the most important things the United States can do to prevent future terrorist attacks on our soil is to secure our borders. ADVERTISEMENT "Sadly, not only has the Bush administration failed to do this, it has actually made the problem worse by floating...

The Constitution Party, formerly called the U.S. Taxpayers Party, had its presidential nominating convention June 23-26, in Valley Forge, Pa. Many party activists hoped to nominate Roy Moore, the Alabama judge who lost his post for refusing to take down a monument of the Ten Commandments. Mr. Moore, though, declined to be considered, so the nomination went to Michael Peroutka, a Maryland attorney and founder of the Institute on the Constitution. His running mate is Chuck Baldwin, a Baptist minister from Florida. Mr. Moore has made at least six joint appearances with Mr. Peroutka since spring, according to party and...

The assault against traditional marriage is now in full swing. Across the country, judges, mayors, legislators, and governors are calling for the legalization and moral acceptance of homosexual marriage. Many people wonder if such an event signals the beginning of America's ultimate demise. It might. Social and cultural acceptance of the homosexual lifestyle certainly contributed to the collapse of many empires of antiquity, including the Canaanite, Persian, Assyrian, Babylonian, Greek, and Roman empires. In fact, Senator Zell Miller of Georgia recently quoted noted historian Arnold Toynbee on the floor of the U.S. Senate as saying, "Of the 22 civilizations that...

According to news reports, "President Bush used a recess appointment Friday [Feb. 20] to give Alabama Attorney General Bill Pryor a seat on the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals temporarily. Pryor was sworn in by U.S. Circuit Judge Ed Carnes in a private ceremony in Alabama Friday. His appointment is expected to last until the end of 2005." Faithful readers of this column know that Pryor was the political Judas who turned against Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore after promising former Alabama Governor Fob James and the people of Alabama that he would back Moore "all the way."...

Last week, a bill was introduced in both chambers of Congress to "limit the jurisdiction of Federal courts in certain cases and promote federalism." The House version is H.R. 3799, and the Senate version is S. 2082. The bill is titled, "The Constitution Restoration Act of 2004." Initial sponsors of the bill include Rep. Robert Aderholt (AL), Rep. Michael Pence (IN), Sen. Richard Shelby (AL), Sen. Zell Miller (GA), Sen. Sam Brownback (KS), and Sen. Lindsey Graham (SC). Even though the introduction of this bill received little national media attention, it is the most important legislation in the last...

Before President Bush ordered the attack against Iraq, I spoke against it. I believed it was wrong then; I believe it was wrong now. It also seems obvious that time has vindicated my position. First of all, the attack against Iraq was unconstitutional and, therefore, illegal under our laws. Before the U.S. goes to war against any country, it is obligatory that Congress declares war. This was never done. Beyond that, President Bush never asked Congress for a Declaration of War. Thus, both President Bush and Congress violated the Constitution, with the result that the war against Iraq was fought...

Just Who Is It That Has God's Blessing? By Chuck Baldwin Food For Thought From The Chuck Wagon February 3, 2004 I constantly marvel at the thinking of today's professing Christians. The majority of them seem incapable of comprehending anything above the spoon-fed diet of religious and political propaganda that is daily disseminated from the ivory towers of "anointed" Christian institutions. In no place is this "sound bite" mentality more apparent than when reference is made regarding those people whom they believe are qualified to speak on their behalf. When speaking of those leaders who seem to have a robot-like...

Why I Write These Columns: An Open Letter To Christian Conservatives By Chuck Baldwin Food For Thought From The Chuck Wagon January 30, 2004 My purpose in writing these columns is to make people think, to confront current events and trends with an intense appreciation for truth. My desire is also to awaken a lethargic population to an ever increasing societal, cultural, political, and spiritual departure from America's historic Christian roots and from a commitment to constitutional government. When I confronted the foibles and fallacies of President Bill Clinton, Christian conservatives hailed me a hero. I was deluged with congratulatory...

When Bush Loses In November, He Will Have No One To Blame But Himself By Chuck Baldwin Food For Thought From The Chuck Wagon January 23, 2004 Let me be the first one to say it: President Bush is on track to lose in November, and it won't matter who his Democratic opponent is. His fabrications, deceptions, and prevarications are just too much to stomach. His duplicity rivals anything in the previous administration, a Republican name plate notwithstanding. It's hard to think of anything this president has done right. His policies are every bit as socialist (or fascist) as the...

The "Morning After" Pill: Another Republican Sponsored Disaster! By Chuck Baldwin Food For Thought From The Chuck Wagon January 20, 2004 With the anniversary of the infamous Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion on demand just two days away, it is important for the American people to realize that Republicans, even more than Democrats, are responsible for the killing of innocents in the womb. Furthermore, President Bush's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is proposing to put the "morning after" pill on grocery store shelves next to aspirin. Such a move would result in the deaths of even more...

If Religious Liberty Is To Survive, America's Pulpits Must Awaken! By Chuck Baldwin Food For Thought From The Chuck Wagon October 14, 2003 Let's set the record straight. Until recently, the American dream was never about material prosperity. On the whole, our Founding Fathers were very prosperous, but they were willing to lose their material substance for something they considered to be much more valuable. In a word, the American dream was liberty, especially religious liberty! In fact, it took the combined effort of statesmen, soldiers, and ministers to win America's independence. Unfortunately, today there is a serious dearth of...

If there is anyone left who truly believes the Republican Party is committed to genuine conservative principles, the candidacy of bodybuilder/actor Arnold Schwarzenegger to be California's next governor should be enough to set the record straight. Despite Schwarzenegger's extreme liberal views, he has won praise from Republicans nationwide. On virtually every issue worth noting, Schwarzenegger comes down on the left side of the page. Schwarzenegger is pro-abortion, pro-homosexual rights, pro-gun control, pro-green, and pro-illegal immigration. He even said that Clinton's impeachment made him "ashamed" to call himself a Republican. Furthermore, Schwarzenegger's immoral escapades make even Bill Clinton look unsoiled. He...

Those who believe electing Republicans is going to make a significant difference in the direction of the country need to open their eyes to what Republicans are actually doing. Consider the courageous stand of Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore to resist a tyrannical and unconstitutional order from a federal judge to remove a monument of the Ten Commandments from the Alabama Judicial Building. Instead of supporting the brave Chief Justice, Republican leaders in his state betrayed Roy Moore, ignored the U.S. and Alabama constitutions, and threw their support behind the federal judge. It was a Republican governor and...

By Pastor Chuck Baldwin August 1, 2003 NewsWithViews.com It should be obvious to every rational person that the Republican Party has totally lost whatever conservative moorings it had. Since seizing control of the federal government and many state governments, Republicans have consistently promoted bigger and bigger government, have betrayed virtually every conservative cause, and have broken virtually every conservative promise. Even columnist George Will observed that under President Bush, conservatism has developed "an identity crisis." However, the greater crisis is the willingness of grassroots conservatives to continue to support such a party. Since becoming President, G.W. Bush has exploded the...
