The Christian Democrats and their Bavarian allies in the Christian Social Union are looking into measures against the problem that they have identified as “child marriage,” defined as unions in which at least one partner is younger than 18 years old. “The priority of child welfare and the equal treatment of men and women are pillars of our society and our understanding of our values,” legislators from the right-wing bloc wrote in a strategy paper quoted in Thursday’s edition of the Passauer Neue Presse. That paper estimates more than 1,000 such unions have been registered in Germany — largely connected...

With mass immigration, not only terrorism in Paris and Brussels and the sex crimes on New Year’s eve came to Europe, but also very different social and moral values. For instance, Islam allows men to marry multiple women. Extremely problematic: Mohammed married his “favorite woman” Aisha when she was just six years old. That is not an unusual Islamic opinion; this is widely uncontested knowledge in Sunni as well as in Shiite Islam. In Germany however, as part of sanctioned lying to advance the cause of Islam (taqiyya), those who ask critical questions are often told: Aisha was after all...

I few years ago I purchased a book titled: "I Am Nujood, Age 10 and Divorced". It is the true story of a Yemini girl named Nujood Ali who was the first child bride to get a divorce. I would recommend that anyone who is trying to alert the world on the evils of Islam purchase this book and pass it around to your friends. I would especially ask women to read this and pass it around to other women who may be unaware of what really goes on in Islam and may have believed the "Islam is the religion...

BOGOTA (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Rampant gang violence and drug turf wars in parts of Central America are fuelling child marriage as girls seek to marry or couple with gang members and older men as a form of protection, researchers say. Traditionally child marriage has been most prevalent among indigenous communities in rural areas across Central America. But humanitarian groups working in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, say anecdotal evidence gathered in the past five years shows drug-fueled gang violence and organized crime is driving more girls to get married in cities. "We are seeing and hearing that increasing numbers...

“Sherko Omer” has the impression that forcing women to have sexual intercourse is forbidden in Islam, but there is nothing in the Qur’an about obtaining the consent of the “captives of the right hand” who are “spoils of war” (Qur’an 33:50). Nor does Muhammad say anything about consent when sanctioning the rape of captive women: Abu Sirma said to Abu Sa’id al Khadri (Allah he pleased with him): 0 Abu Sa’id, did you hear Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) mentioning al-’azl? He said: Yes, and added: We went out with Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) on...

Poverty and lack of education let one in five girls married before the age of 15 in NigeriaBy the time she ran away, Maimuna bore the scars of a short but brutal marriage. Her battered face swelled so much that doctors feared her husband had dislocated her jaw. Her back and arms bristled with angry welts from the whipping her father gave her for fleeing to him. She was gaunt from hunger, dressed in filthy rags. And barely a year after her wedding, she was divorced. It would be a tragic story for a woman of any age. But for...

Decades ago, in the years after Iraq gained independence, a tradition of child marriage persisted in its hills and plains. Upon their fathers’ orders, Iraqi girls were betrothed to strangers and rivals alike to resolve tribal disputes or incur favor. But in the mid-1970s, such acts — called “fasliyah” — were prohibited as the nation moved toward secularization and modernity.“This decree [banning fasliyah] constituted the first step toward a civilized Iraqi community,” reports the Middle East publication Al-Monitor, “which would put an end to the failures of the tribal… society.”In the years that followed, rates of child marriage plummeted. By 1997, only 15 percent of...

The Shiite population of Baghdad may take an immense step backward for female equality if a new piece of legislation allowing young girls to marry is passed. The bill called the Jaafari Personal Status Law permits girls that are younger than 9 to marry with only the girl’s father having authority over the match. On Feb. 25, the Jaafari Law gained approval from Iraq’s Council of Ministers and will affect 65 to 70 percent of the nation. The bill proposes additional regulations as well including the prohibition of Muslim men marrying non-Muslim women. The document also states that husbands are...

A new law being considered in Iraq could lead to girls as young as eight getting married and wives having to submit to sex at their husband's every request. The controversial proposals have provoked outrage from activists both within Iraq and around the globe, who see it as a huge step backwards for women's rights. The measure, aimed at creating different laws for Iraq's majority Shiite population, could further fray the country's divisions amid some of the worst sectarian bloodshed since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.

About two dozen Iraqi women have demonstrated in Baghdad against a draft law approved by the Iraqi cabinet that would permit the marriage of nine-year-old girls and automatically give child custody to fathers. The group's protest was on International Women's Day on Saturday (local time) and a week after the cabinet voted for the legislation, based on Shiite Islamic jurisprudence, allowing clergy to preside over marriages, divorces and inheritances. The draft law would also ...

Is Muslim Child Marriage coming to the entire world? Muslims say that Sharia Law will be implemented very soon in all countries, as soon as their populations grow...No one can stop this... I've already seen a similar message defending Muhammad's taking of a Jewish 9 year old girl as bride as that of being customary of his day. This image here below of what purportedly seems to be a legitimate public service announcement in England in the promotion of Muslim men taking underage girls as wives is difficult to interpret. At first sight it seems to be a straight forward...

The girl’s Muslim parents forced her into the marriage when she was fourteen. Her mother tried to put a good face on a bad situation, enticing the girl with a picture of marriage as a never-ending party: her husband, she said, would treat the girl to ice cream and lollipops and take her to movies and amusement parks. Reality turned out to be a bit different: her husband imprisoned her inside their home and forced her to watch violent videos featuring jihad attacks against soldiers from Western countries. He also raped her and beat her frequently. The girl went to...

Iran has experienced a dramatic growth in under-age marriages that has seen the number of girls being wed before the age of 10 double in the space of a year, officially-compiled figures have revealed. The trend has prompted child protection experts to warn of a surge in mental illness, suicides, teenage runaways and girls turning to prostitution as the nuptials frequently end in divorce. While both genders are affected, statistics from the state-run civil registration organisation show the phenomenon to be more prevalent among girls. Some families are said to be marrying off their daughters to older men to pay...

This follows an outcry over a recent wedding of a retired civil servant with another 12-year oldA Saudi cleric has married a 12-year-old girl just a few days after a retired Saudi civil servant aged 55 years was reported to have wedded a girl of the same age and triggered a wave of criticism inside the Gulf Kingdom. Federal immigration officials say there’s little they can do to stop “child brides” from being sponsored into Canada by much older husbands who wed them in arranged marriages abroad. Top immigration officials in Canada and Pakistan say all they can do is reject the sponsorships of husbands trying to bring their child-brides to Canada. The men have to reapply when the bride turns 16. The marriages are permitted under Sharia Law. Muslim men, who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents, return to their homeland to wed a “child bride” in an arranged marriage in which a dowry is given to...
