General Motors has revealed its most extreme Chevy truck yet, and it’s set to be tested by the US Army. The Chevrolet Colorado ZH2 is an off-road electric vehicle equipped with a massive hydrogen fuel cell, which can even act as a portable power source. Despite its hulking size, at over six-and-a-half feet tall and seven feet wide, and all-terrain capabilities, the truck will also be used to evaluate stealth operations for near-silent surveillance.

Normally when you buy a pickup you worry about things like depreciation, operating costs, and how long the truck is going to last. Not this guy — he more than got his moneys worth with this one. Back in 1976 when Bob Sportel was 24 he bought a used, rusting 1957 half-ton Chevy pickup for $75 because he needed a way to get to work. The Chevrolet Volt isn't changing much for the 2015 model year. According to specifications uncovered by Inside EVs, though, the new Volt's battery does have a slightly larger capacity. According to the spec sheet, this doesn't translate to increased range. Real world driving, though, might tell a different story. The 2015 Volt's battery storage is slightly higher than the outgoing model's, up from 16.5 kilowatt-hours to 17.1 kWh. Sales of the Chevy Volt in the US have been fairly stable for the last few months (between a low of 1,478 and a high of 1,777 since March), but in Europe, the Opel Ampera (sister-vehicle of the Volt) has been trending downwards. The sales decline is prompting discussion that the vehicle will be killed off in Europe, according to Automotive News Europe. General Motors (GM) will invest 450m dollars to manufacture a new global Chevy vehicle at its Rosario Automotive Complex in Argentina. The investment will be made between 2013 and 2015 at the Rosario facility, which produced more than 136,000 vehicles in 2011. The announcement was made following a meeting at Government House of GM CEO Dan Akerson with President Cristina Fernandez. Under the code name Project Phoenix, GM will manufacture a global platform car exclusive for Mercosur and the region.

Yet it is increasingly clear that, despite the commitment of many millions of taxpayer dollars, the United States will not hit Mr. Obama’s target by 2015. OK am I losing my mind or did I just see a TV commercial for a NEW car lease for $36 dollars A MONTH for a new Chevy? They can not possibly be making any money on a $36 a month lease... Is Obama trying to undercut the other dealers and drive them out of business?

"My husband (JDHCalif) wrote a lengthy review and I wanted to add my 2 cents. We are actually now getting nearly 130mpg per day because his company installed an electrical outlet in his office parking area. The car costs about $2 to fully charge at PG&E rates and each full charge takes the car about 45 miles. Even though we drive 130 mile+ daily commutes we are burning almost no gas...not insignificant in CA where gas is now $4.63 per gallon. The Volt is proving to be more than twice as economical as our Prius...and it drives so much better...

Days after General Motors announced it was temporarily suspending production of the Chevy Volt, the electric car was named European Car of the Year. The Geneva Auto Show announced Monday that the Volt, which is sold in Europe as the Opel Ampera, was named its 2012 Car of the Year ahead of its annual car show that opens this week.

On Friday, GM announced it was halting production of the Chevrolet Volt until April, so as to maintain “proper inventory levels.” Sales of the electric vehicle have been disappointing, with the company missing its target of 10,000 Volts sold last year. DETROIT — General Motors Co. has told 1,300 employees at its Detroit Hamtramck plant that they will be temporarily laid off for five weeks as the company halts production of the Chevrolet Volt and its European counterpart, the Opel Ampera. “Even with sales up in February over January, we are still seeking to align our production with demand,” said GM spokesman Chris Lee.
