Oklahoma to challenge health care lawBy the CNN Wire Staff January 7, 2011 1:34 p.m. EST (CNN) -- The state of Oklahoma will file a lawsuit within the next few weeks challenging the constitutionality of President Barack Obama's health care overhaul, according to the state's incoming attorney general. "There is great clarity for me on the necessary and urgent need to exercise my responsibility to defend Oklahoma's Constitution against a federal government and president that have gone too far in their overreach of power and authority," Attorney General-elect Scott Pruitt said in a written statement Friday. Pruitt was backed by...

WASHINGTON (AP) — The chairman of the Democratic National Committee on Sunday said he thinks the chances that President Obama will face a serious primary challenger in 2012 are "virtually nil." Former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, now DNC chairman, said there's always the possibility that a fringe candidate could try to mount a challenge. But Mr. Kaine said Democrats feel very good about Mr. Obama's re-election prospects if, as Mr. Kaine put it, the president keeps doing the job that people elected him to do.

One thing Rahm couldn't do before was to convince people that he was some kind of delicate little flower being victimized by those rough Chicago politicians. He's always been the tough political guy, the guy who gets in the policy wonk's face and tells him to put a cork in it before the policy wonk has a chance to screw up a campaign. Rahm's the guy who sends the fish, the guy who never lets a good crisis go to waste. Clearly, he hasn't let this one go to waste, either. Our delicate little rose. How will this gentle soul...

Whether you are on the streets in Utah, on the job, or answering e-mails, there seems to be certain questions that are most often asked of Christians who challenge Mormon beliefs. The following list, though hardly exhaustive and in no particular order, gives the most common questions, and several quick responses that could be given. These are obviously short starter responses, but hopefully one or more of these might help you to better formulate your own answer. 1. Isn't it unchristian to question someone else's claim to Christianity?•Didn't Joseph Smith do this very thing when he claimed that God told...

The mom of a local middle-school student sent me (and the rest of her list) an email about an upcoming "Challenge Day" scheduled at school. The purpose of her email was to recruit parent volunteers for the day. She included a brief description and a link to the website. The vague description raised some red flags, so I went to the website and did some information gathering. It included media links, information on a new book written by the founders, local testimonials, sponsors and so on. I went to the About Us menu bar and (w a Glenn Beck sniffer)...

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- A federal judge says he likely will let go to trial portions of a lawsuit by Florida and 19 other states challenging the president's health care overhaul as unconstitutional. But U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson said at a Tuesday hearing in Pensacola that he expects to dismiss other parts.

China is on course to build a record number of cinemas this year in a burst of movie infrastructure development that is partly aimed at rivalling the "soft power" of Hollywood. Following the state-backed expansion of China's TV and newspaper industries since 2009, the government is promoting a major push of film production and distribution. The state council, China's cabinet, has issued new guidelines for the booming industry that have helped film-makers secure bank loans and reach a wider audience. Qiang Zhongyuan, a director with Beijing Forbidden City Film Company, says the measures have helped him to double his budget...

A host of Arizona lawmakers joined a conservative watchdog group Thursday in filing a 78-page lawsuit challenging the federal health care overhaul, becoming the latest party to enter the growing fight against the law at the local level. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Phoenix by the Goldwater Institute and Arizona representatives, takes aim at several key provisions in the health care law, focusing primarily -- as most challenges have -- on the requirement to purchase health insurance coverage.

A South Dakota minister says he wants to do for religious freedom what the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. did for civil rights. The Rev. H. Wayne Williams, pastor of Liberty Baptist Tabernacle in Rapid City, last month endorsed GOP state Sen. Gordon Howie in the South Dakota governor's race, in defiance of the Internal Revenue Service and a federal court ruling and in hopes of producing a landmark constitutional test case. At issue is an IRS regulation called the Johnson Amendment, enacted in 1954, that says that 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the section of the tax code under which most...

One of the few "funny" stories to come out of the sweeping health care legislation to go through Congress was that the majority who wanted reform -- but did not want it applied to them -- woke up finding themselves subject to those laws. They, too, will eventually find themselves burdened by the same burden of taxes, regulation, and rationed care that the rest of us will suffer. This was not the only thing they failed to notice, but also the fact that this bill is an easy target for attack in the courts. Investor's Business Daily (IBD) notes that...

PHOENIX - Gov. Jan Brewer and Attorney General Terry Goddard asked a judge Friday to dismiss a lawsuit that seeks to overturn the state's new immigration law. Lawyers for both officials say the lawsuit by Washington-based researcher Roberto Frisancho should be thrown out because his claim is based on his speculation that, as a U.S.-born Hispanic, he will be asked for immigration papers as a result of the law. The law requires police, while enforcing other laws, to question a person's immigration status if officers have a reasonable suspicion that the person is in the country illegally. Brewer and Goddard's...

Glenn opened his radio show this day talking about Obama's disdain for Israel, and figuratively has the Islamic flag flying over the White House. "Aren't we even looking for the bad guys anymore?" Glenn then moved on to the proposed 13-story Islamic mosque at Ground Zero in Manhattan where the World Trade Center towers once stood -- until they were destroyed in an attack by -- who? Islamic extremists. And though he argues that the government should NOT interfere with where a church or temple or mosque can be built -- "if you stop this, you violate the Constitution,...

Unemployment is likely to surge above 10 percent during the next few months as millions of “missing” workers return to the labor market. This will pose a huge challenge for the Obama administration and congressional Democrats, who want to run in 2010 on the back of a strengthening economy. Economist Mark Zandi expects the unemployment rate to float above 10 percent during the next few months as workers look to take advantage of improving opportunities. “The increase in unemployment is a sign of a stronger job market, but it is also a sign of how weak the job market still...

While the left is still cheering on the passage of its Holy Grail legislation (“Nationalized Health Care”), jubliation is still rampant in the socialst leaning streets of Portland Oregon. But reality is beginning to set in. In just the last few days, companies who must disclose their obligations when any of their revenue expectations shift beyond a certain threshold, have begun to do so. Because of Nationalized Health Care, large companies including ATT, John Deere &Co., Caterpillar, AK Steel, 3M, and Valero Energy have all by law begun releasing their revised corporate outlooks because they have been dramatically changed with...

The fracture of the Tea Party and 9/12 protest groups has begun, with some protesters following Republican Dick Armey into partisan activism and others chasing jet trails after anyone from Glenn Beck to John Birch. In North Texas alone, three different political factions are selling "Tea Party Training" or "Tea Party Boot Camp," where for $25 wannabe activists can learn everything from Armey economics to conspiracy theories taught by a "birther." So far, it’s been tough to tell who’s on which Republican or Libertarian team in the Tea Party protests. Actor Stephen Baldwin, a speaker at Armey’s Sept. 12 Washington...
