  • Rep. Chabot Didn't Have Much to Ask Mueller...But He Had Plenty to Say to His Dem Colleagues

What exactly were Democrats hoping to gain at Wednesday's hearings with former special counsel Robert Mueller? They already have his 448-page report. He's already given a public statement about his conclusions. He's already said, matter-of-factly, that the Trump campaign did not collude with Russia to win the 2016 election. Yet, with a series of subpoenas, Democrats have dragged Mueller to Capitol Hill to try and squeeze some new information out of him that will incriminate President Trump. And their Republican colleagues are sick of it. Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH) didn't have many questions for the witness because, again, he already...

A congressman from Ohio had cops grab the cameras of constituents during a town hall meeting. Steve Chabot, a Republican, had cell phones and cameras confiscated in order to “prevent an embarrassing Youtube video from making the rounds,” according to Carlos Miller, who runs a blog documenting efforts by the state to stifle the First Amendment rights of photographers. Police said the cameras were taken “to protect the constituents.” A local television station, however, was allowed to videotape the meeting and the brazen move by Chabot and the cops.

Republicans appear to have another repeat candidate in 2010, as former Rep. Virgil Goode (R-Va.) has filed to reclaim the seat he lost in November. Goode filed Wednesday with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) — a move that allows him to raise money for the race — but he told The Hill that he hasn't made a final decision about running again in 2010. He said he filed because he received several “unsolicited” campaign contributions. Once a candidate receives $5,000, he or she must file a statement of candidacy with the FEC. “I’m filing that because a few people have...

Chabot is running for his 8th term, but the most recent poll data I can find shows Driehaus is up by 2 points. That’s within the margin of error and shows that this race is a dead heat. Now, to make things a bit more interesting, tonight’s debate may not be televised because a write-in candidate has complained that he was being left out. Although there is plenty in common with Chabot and Driehaus, there are many differences too. Chabot would have voted against the bailout, Driehaus would have voted for it. Chabot supports letting workers invest some of their...

U.S. Rep. Steve Chabot, R-OH, blamed labor unions and partisan politics for a U.S. House vote this week rejecting an amendment that could have kept the Delta Queen riverboat from having to phase out its overnight cruise packages. The historic riverboat has been operating with a special Congressional exemption from the federal Safety at Sea Act since 1968, an exemption that has been renewed eight times. The safety act bans the use of wooden vessels for overnight cruises. Backers of the exemption claim the Delta Queen deserves special treatment because of its historical significance and recently upgraded fire-safety systems. With...

CINCINNATI - Republican Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record) campaigned on Tuesday for a conservative congressman who publicly disagreed with the potential 2008 presidential candidate on how to deal with illegal immigration. Six-term Rep. Steve Chabot (news, bio, voting record) made it clear that while he welcomed McCain's appearance at a breakfast fundraiser, the two are on opposite sides on how to deal with the nation's estimated 11 million illegal immigrants. "This happens to be an area where the senator and I don't agree," Chabot said after McCain attended the fundraiser for the Ohio congressman's re-election campaign. Chabot said...

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A Congressional subcommittee held a hearing on abortion on Thursday and focused on the misconceptions some people have about the legality of abortion if Roe v. Wade is ever overturned. It also featured advocates who help women in various unplanned pregnancy situations. Rep. Steve Chabot, chairman of the House Judiciary subcommittee on the Constitution, oversaw the hearings. Chabot said he wanted to set the record straight about abortion after Roe is overturned someday. He indicated that the assumption that abortion would be illegal nationwide is wrong. Instead, states would be free, like they were before Roe,...

Vicky Saporta was only two weeks into her job as president and CEO of the National Abortion Federation in 1995 when she first heard the phrase: partial birth abortion. It's a phrase that sent her emotions reeling into overdrive then, and one that eight years later continues to rile her as she prepares to fight what looks like a losing battle to stop Congress from passing the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act. Republican lawmakers expect President Bush to sign the bill into law before the Easter recess. In his January State of the Union speech, Bush named the bill as...
  • Congressional Subcommittee Holds Hearing on New Partial Birth Abortion Ban

Diana Grossheim's partial-birth abortion and the trauma she experienced afterwards has become a focus of the debate in the fight to ban partial-birth abortions. Twenty-one week's pregnant, the Santa Barbara math teacher's doctor recommended a partial-birth abortion to remove the body of her unborn child, who had died in utero. Grossheim's decision to have the procedure would lead her down an agonizing road of physical and emotional complications that would ultimately harm her future pregnancy. Tuesday afternoon, pro-life Congressman Steve Chabot (R-OH) gaveled the meeting of the House Judiciary's subcommittee on constitutional issues to hold a preliminary hearing on a...
