If you're a walking fan, like Pilgrimages and are in the mood to have all of your sins forgiven then this is a good time to walk the Camino de Santiago in Spain. Why? It's a Holy Year when the Feast of Saint James falls on a Sunday, and this year it is on July 25th. They open a special door at the back of the Cathedral. If you go through that door, go to the Apostle's tomb, ask forgiveness for your sins, go to confession, pray for the Pope, go to mass and receive communion you will have all...

Tomorrow morning I board a flight from Malaga to Santiago de Compostela then, 2 buses later, I arrive in Sarria and immediately start walking 20km to Portomarin. Most people who walk from Sarria to Santiago do it in 5 stages but I will be doing it in 6 so I have more time to sightsee along the way, plus I will have 1 full day in Santiago after I arrive and before my flight back. Weather looks good in the 10 day forecast so it should be a good walk.

After a brief period of little growth this spring, The Mozilla Foundation’s open-source Firefox Web browser is again gaining ground on Microsoft Corp.’s Internet Explorer (IE). In its latest study on Web browser usage, Netherlands-based OneStat.com said Sunday that Firefox gained 1.14 percent in June and is now used by 12.93 percent of surfers. That’s up from 11.79 percent who used Firefox in May, while IE use declined by 2.12 percent to 83.05 percent. “We thought that Firefox growth had slowed down,” said Niels Brinkman, a co-founder of OneStat.com. “It seems it’s increasing again. That’s a little bit of a...

The minority of Mac users still browsing with Internet Explorer need to consider moving to another browser very quickly, as Microsoft plans to discontinue support for IE beginning Dec. 31. The news, which came in a statement on Friday, may not have come as a complete surprise to Mac users: Microsoft announced back in June 2003 that it was ending Mac support for IE. Microsoft has not upgraded the software in three years, leaving IE 5--rather than version 6, which is available for Windows--as the most recent version available to Mac users. While IE for Mac will continue to be...

Experts: International domain names may pose threat The new trick is a variation of the 'homograph attack' The new trick is a variation of a known technique called the "homograph attack" and takes advantage of loopholes in the way some popular Web browsers display domain names that use non-English characters. It could allow malicious hackers and online identity-theft groups to trick unsuspecting users into divulging sensitive personal information, according to an advisory from The Shmoo Group, a hacker collective, and from Secunia. snip For example, attackers could register a Web domain "bloomberg.com," which looks identical to the popular business news...

SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA – For centuries, Catholic pilgrims made this sacred journey across Spain for heavenly rewards. This summer, the throngs arriving in Santiago de Compostela have found more-immediate gratification: concerts by Lou Reed, The Cure, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Welcome to Xacobeo, the festival honoring the famed Camino de Santiago pilgrimage, which finishes here in the rolling green hills of northwestern Spain. Once the domain of devout Catholics, the 420-mile trek across the country to honor the Apostle James has been transformed into a pop-culture spectacle. Jenna Bush did it. So did the Queen of Spain. Even...
