When I worked on Capitol Hill, I shared a house with a senior NPR correspondent. He told me their early a.m. editorial meetings, instead of starting with “what are we going to lead with today?” usually started with “how are we going to screw Reagan today?”.

It is my view that it is idiotic for the federal government to keep making or guaranteeing student loans and giving grants to colleges and universities which have billions of dollars in endowments.
For example, it is reported that Harvard has a $52 billion endowment, Yale has $41 billion, Stanford and Princeton have $37 and $35 billion respectively.
If a higher education institution with billions in endowments are so enamored with a student or research project, they can offer a loan or grant to favor their vision.
