The University of Virginia’s Center for Politics shifted their rating of the race for incumbent [Democrat] Maine Rep. Jared Golden’s Congressional District from “leans [Democrat]” to “toss-up” on Tuesday.
By presidential partisanship, Maine’s 2nd Congressional District is the most Republican district currently held by a Democrat, according to the Center for Politics’ analysis. The congressional race’s move to the “toss-up” column after Golden announced on May 20 that he is seeking reelection in 2026 instead of making a bid for governor or Senate.
President Donald Trump won the seat by 9 percentage points in the 2024 presidential election — marking his largest margin of victory in a seat where a Democrat was reelected to Congress. [The Democrat] narrowly won a fourth term in office in 2024, beating his Republican opponent former NASCAR driver Austin Theriault by less than 1%. The president also won [the Democrat]’s district in both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections.

In early May, former Republican Maine Gov. Paul LePage announced that he is running against [the Democrat] for the state’s 2nd Congressional District. LePage remains the only declared Republican candidate in the race, as Theriault has ruled out a second House run and endorsed him. Moreover, Golden could also face a primary challenge ....
[The Democrat] announced in May that he has decided to run for reelection in 2026 and forgo a potential bid for Maine Governor or Senate.
A recent survey from the Congressional Leadership Fund, a GOP super PAC — first reported by NOTUS — found that [the Democrat] received just 43% of the vote to LePage’s 48% in a head-to-head matchup in the 2nd Congressional district.

I’m sure the Dem’s have enough “assets” in place, to strategically steal enough seats to take over the House, and maybe the Senate, in the Mid-Terms.....which will “magically” result in the Lawfare disappearing overnight.
>> President Donald Trump won the seat by 9 percentage points in the 2024 presidential election
Huh?
Does the author mean that PDJT won the presidential vote in that congressional district by 9PP?
Trump has won that district for the last 10 years. Same with Spanbergers in Va. Republicans just don’t want them bad enough. Spamberger will be the next Governor. Thank the GOP for throwing her a lifesaver as a congresswoman.
I am sure that Trump , after winning the last election, cares NOTHING about mid terms for whatever reason, because since HE won, he forgot all about the steal.
But I am sure his awesome, crack team of top notch "only the best" LOSERS INCOMPETENTS TRAITORS BACKSTABBERS AND MORONS are going t do something just in the nick of time with the help of Mike "I like black boys" Johnson and CONgress...
And I am sure that if they don't Trump's Bugeyed Bengali Ka$h money and Scam Blondi are going to investigate and find...nothing.
Maine is lost. The Rats have figured out a way to steal seats there thanks to “rank choice voting”
I click on all the dem ads that run on youtube to make them pay for the click.
Just the first of many. Sorry Surrender Monkeys, but the Trump Train is rolling already.
Maine has RCV for a reason...
How does this benefit Ds but not Rs?
Maine is a left-leaning state and LePage was elected twice with pluralities as governor. They were hoping to prevent him or another Republican to get elected governor (success) and hoping to get rid of Collins as well with it (fail).
Maine is a weird state. A republican and an Independant in the Senate in an overwhelming democrat state. A republican district with a democrat Rep.
President Trump has been in office for less than 4 months and has accomplished more than his whole last term and whiners like you are saying he is a loser...
With friends like you, who needs enemas?
Preliminary talk is the Dems have no one who thinks they can beat Collins. That seat is likely held.
Seek professional help....
Get ready for a long RAT ballot count.
What would you like him to do? Keep democrats from voting a left leaning state and declare martial law?
I am also confused by that statement.....
As a former Mainer, I think Collins is toast this time and LePage is better than even money to take the seat.
