Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said during an interview over the weekend that “the spirit” of giving free handouts to illegal aliens should absolutely be part of Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris’ agenda if she becomes president. Whitmer made the remarks during a Sunday interview on NBC News’ “Meet The Press” while discussing some of the extreme things that Harris’ vice presidential running mate Tim Walz has provided to illegal aliens in the state of Minnesota where he serves as governor. Left-wing host Kristen Welker noted that Walz has given illegal aliens driver’s licenses, the ability to qualify for...

~As I wrote almost two decades ago in my international bestseller America Alone: Contemporary multiculturalism absolves one from knowing anything about other cultures as long as one feels warm and fluffy toward them... 'Celebrate diversity' with a uniformity of ignorance. But even so, short of going to the "Free Palestine" demo and reading out your Israeli Independence Day speech, this is kind of impressive: NEWS New York City Mayor Eric Adams referred to India and its diaspora community as "Pakistan" multiple times during an Indian Independence Day celebration in Queens. The crowd repeatedly corrected Adams, but he continued to confuse...

The Harris campaign is using a CNN article to smear Vance even though the article contains the seeds of the narrative's undoing. Keen observers have highlighted that buried within CNN's latest hit piece targeting Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) are the seeds of the intended narrative's undoing. A quad of CNN writers penned a Tuesday piece over 2,200 words long titled "Workers allege 'nightmare' conditions at Kentucky startup JD Vance helped fund." Their hit piece begins by highlighting Vance's alleged guiding principle for investing in a company: "A business should not only turn a profit, it should also help American communities."...

The federal government is processing U.S. citizenship applications at its fastest pace in decades, with thousands of immigrants becoming newly minted citizens every week, possibly helping sway the result of November’s election. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USIS) is taking an average of 4.9 months to process naturalization applications in the first nine months of the current fiscal year, a pace not seen since 2013 and 2014, according to a report from the New York Times. The under five-month average processing time is a far cry from that pace set just three years ago, when it took roughly 11.5...

Come November, every hunter, trucker and Amish person across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will have a ballot in their hands if the GOP’s expansive get-out-the-vote (GOTV) effort goes according to plan. For years there have been restrictions on how the Republican National Committee (RNC) and presidential campaigns could work with door-knocking groups. That all changed in March when a Federal Election Commission (FEC) advisory opinion eased restrictions on coordination between such groups. Now, a large portion of Republicans’ GOTV efforts are being outsourced to prominent conservative organizations, who are running an aggressive ground game across several states including Arizona, Wisconsin...

A former police chief who once apparently professed that his department would be "vindicated" for conducting raids on the home and office of a small-town newspaper owner in Kansas has now been charged with a felony in connection with those raids. Gideon Cody is the former police chief of Marion, Kansas, a city of fewer than 2,000 residents about 60 miles north of Wichita. A year ago, he led raids on the office of the Marion County Record and the home of its owner, Eric Meyer. Now, Cody has been charged with felony obstruction of justice in connection with those...

Over the weekend, I took my daughter and her best friend on a day trip from Northern Virginia to Hico, West Virginia. In a matter of 120 minutes, you pass from one of the statistically wealthiest areas in the United States to some of the most destitute roadside neighborhoods you’ll see in the region. The friend asked why it's like this in West Virginia, and all I could think to say in response was, “All your friends back in Northern Virginia, what do their parents do for work?” It didn’t take her long. She responded, “Oh like mostly the Pentagon,...

~As far as I can tell, no one who knows her likes Kamala Harris. Other than Willie Brown, that is. But the fellows who decided Joe Biden had outlived his uselessness did not wish to open up a free-for-all race for the succession. They were not willing to entertain a pseudo-primary ding-dong between Newsom, Buttigeig, whoever - and the only person available to be simply announced as de facto nominee was Kamala. So the swift surgical liquidation of Biden and the installation of Harris was accomplished. And the plan then became to keep the un-nominated nominee under wraps so that...

The Idaho Supreme Court has issued an opinion that dismisses Attorney General Raul Labrador’s lawsuit against the Prop 1 ballot initiative. If enacted this November, the Prop 1 initiative would implement a “Top Four” primary process and change the general election process to Ranked-Choice Voting. Labrador, in his lawsuit, said the initiative’s organizers gathered signatures fraudulently and that the initiative violated Idaho’s “one subject” rule for initiatives. A summary of the opinion states that the lawsuit was dismissed on procedural grounds. Here is the summary, which is from court staff and not direct quotes from the opinion itself: “Today the...

Several gun shops in Twin Falls are alleging that the Twin Falls Police Department is maintaining a form of “gun registration” and that the police are trying to force them into the program under the threat of law. Idaho Dispatch sat down with the owners of Quick Response Firearms (Tara and Daniel Corsini) and Homestead Tactical (Joshua Van Dyke), both located in Twin Falls. Both shops say TFPD is trying to force them to use a program called “LeadsOnline.” They claim the program not only acts as a de facto “gun registration program” because it requires personal information about the...

~The latest stabbing of an English girl - eleven years old - is being reported mostly because the heroic figure on hand who stepped in to disarm the "knifeman" (a recent coinage but now routine in Fleet Street) was a plucky Muslim fellow called Abdullah. Good for him - even if the not-so-subtle sub-text of the reports was: You get it yet, you lousy Islamophobes? We need immigrants to come here to do the jobs Britons won't do - like saving the little girl from being stabbed by some of the other immigrants we let in. You'd better hope there's...

Are the devices in your home trying to influence the election? Like many Americans, I own an Echo Show, the Amazon Alexa device with a screen. For the most part, it’s a billboard mounted in your home full of product placement and personalized ads. But it also has a ton of useful features: live view for security cameras, Spotify access, announcement mode, video calls, shopping lists, and over 100,000 “skills” — the Alexa word for apps. My family uses it mostly for timers, reminders, and lists, but the touch screen also allows for a steady flow of recipes and, until...

Massive increases in coral across the Australian Great Barrier Reef (GBR) have been reported for 2023-24 making it the third record year in a row of heavy growth. Across almost all parts of the 1,500 mile long reef, from the warmer northern waters to the cooler conditions in the south, coral is now at its highest level since detailed observations began. The inconvenient news has been ignored in mainstream media which, curiously, have focused on a non-story in Nature that claimed “climate change” poses an “existential threat” to the GBR. “The science tells us that the GBR is in danger...

Since The Wall Street Journal first reported that Alex Soros had taken over his father’s political operation on June 11, 2023, he has pumped tens of millions of dollars into an array of efforts to sway the 2024 election, financial disclosures show. Democracy PAC, the primary conduit through which the Soros family shuffles its wealth into electoral politics, spent roughly $40 million after the WSJ reported that George Soros had passed the reins on to his son, campaign finance records show. The PAC’s spending under Alex Soros signals somewhat of a departure from how his father operated it, with less...

The chairman of the powerful House Administration Committee says his investigation into one of the Democrats' most successful political action committees has pivoted to whether foreigners may be laundering money into the 2024 election. Rep. Bryan Steil, W-Wis., said his committee has identified individuals who claim they did not make the donations attributed to them in Federal Election Commission (FEC) reports filed by ActBlue. His committee, which oversees election integrity issues, has “activated a full investigation.” “My concern is that individuals are outside the jurisdiction in the United States who may be engaged in this,” Steil told the "Just the...

~As you know, I loathe writing about the so-called presidential "election" "campaign" - because I regard its leaden rituals as one of the biggest structural defects of American self-government. At least other countries manage to produce their dismal wanker "leaders" without two years and a bazillion dollars of exploratory committees and caucuses and the faux-folksiness of Iowa state fairs and New Hampshire pancake breakfasts and all the rest. So in theory this last month should have been right up my alley - as huge holes were blasted into the stately unhurried calendar on both sides: In one party, the presidential...

~A headline to ponder from my old newspaper The Independent: Labour councillor suspended after video emerges of him urging crowd to cut people's throats Party says speech in Walthamstow 'completely unacceptable' The elected representative's name is not Ahmed bin Jihad but Ricky Jones. Our leaders have done a splendid job in transforming our societies into irredeemably unpeaceable kingdoms. The good news is that, in California, masks are back. As you know, the biggest story of our time is that half-a-millennium of western dominance is coming to an end, and the future will be built elsewhere. So, as this week ends,...

This essay was posted as a comment by “Daniel P” in response to an UnHerd piece titled “The revolt of the Rust Belt Democrats have squandered the white working class”. I was so impressed by Daniel’s alternative historical summary that I thought it worth cross-posting on Substack. Robert M. If I may, I would like to offer one old guys perspective on why we are where we are and where I think things are gonna go. The political issues we face today go back to the 1990’s and the end of the Cold War. The republicans were the party of...

~It is just a week since the famously Welsh boyo Axel Rudakubana used what English law calls a "bladed article" to kill three little girls - aged nine, seven and six - and attempt to kill another ten. My old Telegraph colleague Allison Pearson writes: The failure to discuss the terror suffered by Elsie, Alice and Bebe, three little girls knifed to death by a devil, and the pain of five other critically ill children and their dance teacher is deafening. Families must be shocked, raging and grief stricken, but they are not... — Allison Pearson (@AllisonPearson) August 4, 2024...
