Judge: Alien's sentence improper Wednesday, October 31, 2007By Steven Hepkershepker@citpat.com -- Luis Gonzalez-Mireles was punished more for being an illegal alien than for first-time drunken driving when he was sentenced to 93 days in jail, Circuit Judge Chad Schmucker ruled. Schmucker found the sentence by District Judge Joseph Filip improper and disproportionate, and sent it back to District Court for an appropriate sentence. In most cases, that means little or no jail time. Gonzalez-Mireles, 21, of Ann Arbor was charged with drunken driving in Jackson on Dec. 18. Filip, citing the Mexican native's failure to seek citizenship here, issued a...

One was, "It's in our interests that we help reformers across the Middle East achieve their objectives. This is the fundamental challenge of the 21st century." Another, "a failed Iraq in the heart of the Middle East will provide safe haven for terrorists and extremists. It will embolden those who are trying to thwart the ambitions of reformers." And a third: "If you think problems are tough now, imagine what it would be like if the United States...

A computer alarm generated in that final two seconds of data suggests one of the pilots' joystick hand controllers may have been briefly engaged, but the autopilot was never deactivated before...

Paul Harvey, The Rest of the Story
A few days ago I was had the radio on, and wasn't really listening to it, when Paul Harvey's "Rest of the Story" segment came on. He described a president of the US, whose term lasted one day, and the Presdident slept through his entire term, as he was hung over. I didnt catch the details of why or how this occurred, nor did I catch the name of President. Did I dream this? Or can anyone help me find out more? Thank you for your help.
