HMMM very interesting on the face of it it doesn’t change my opinion of Mr. Romney. Now if Romney were to say that Tancredo would be in charge of immigration and border enforcement in a Romney administration or say Homeland security that would at least get my attention

pianomikey that’s a great picture! but your caption about not ever being squirted got me curious so I had to consult Wikpedia and I found this from Wikpedia
The Texas horned lizard (Phrynosoma cornutum) is one of 14 North American species of spikey-bodied reptiles called horned lizards. The Texas species ranges from Colorado and Kansas to northern Mexico, and from southeastern Arizona to Louisiana and Arkansas. Texas is the heart of its range. [1] There are also isolated, introduced populations in the Carolinas, Georgia, and northern Florida. [2]

The horned lizard is popularly called a “horned toad,” “horny toad”, or “horned frog,” but it is neither a toad nor a frog. The popular names come from the lizard’s rounded body and blunt snout, which give it a decidedly toad-like or frog-like appearance. (Phrynosoma literally means “toad-bodied.” Cornutum means “horned.”) The lizard’s horns are extensions of its cranium and are composed of true bone.

The Texas horned lizard is the largest-bodied and most widely distributed of 8 species in the United States. It grows to a maximum length of 4-6 inches. Although its coloration generally serves as camouflage against predation, when threatened by a predator, a horned lizard puffs up its body to cause its spiny scales to protrude, making it difficult to swallow. The Texas horned lizard, along with at least three other species, also has the ability to squirt an aimed stream of blood from the corners of the eyes for a distance of up to 5 feet. This not only confuses would-be predators, the blood is mixed with a chemical that is foul-tasting to canidae predators such as wolves, coyotes, and domestic dogs

About 70% of the Texas horned lizard’s diet is made up of harvester ants, though they supplement these with termites, beetles, and grasshoppers. In recent years, the Texas horned lizard has declined in about 30% of its range, though there is some indication it may be making a comeback. The decline is usually blamed on overuse of pesticides and the spread of non-native, but highly aggressive and fiercely territorial, Brazilian fire ants. Both eradicate harvester ant colonies, destroying the horned lizard’s principal source of food. The Texas horned lizard is now a protected species and it is illegal to take, possess, transport or sell them without a special permit.

Some Native American peoples regarded horned lizards as sacred. The animal is a common motif in the art of many Native Americans in the Southwestern U.S. and in Mexico.

The horned lizard is the state reptile of Texas and, as the “horned frog”, is the mascot of Texas Christian University (TCU).

I miss Horny Toads they were cool and very Texan. Don’t get me wrong I like the geckos too but I still miss the good old Texas Horny Toad. You could pick’em up and chase girls with them and if you squeezed them just right they would squirt really dark “blood” from their eyes! Now that was cool!

  • Shamnesty Watch: Keep the heat on the DREAM Act…Only 18 Senators have committed to voting no

    From Wikipedia:

The DREAM Act would provide a path to legality for persons brought illegally to the United States by their parents as children, or whose parents attempted to immigrate legally but were then denied legality after several years in application, and whose children thus derived their legal status solely from their parents (the child also becoming illegal upon the parent’s denial).

To qualify, the immigrant student would have to meet certain requirements such as:

    * Proof of having arrived in the United States before reaching 16 years of age;
    * Proof of residence in the United States for a least five (5) consecutive years since their date of arrival.
    * Having graduated from an American High School, or obtained a GED.
    * “Good moral character,” essentially defined as the absence of a significant criminal record (or any drug charges whatsoever).

An estimated 65,000 immigrant students who meet these requirements graduate from high school each year. pdf

Immigrants who meet the above requirements would be eligible to apply for a temporary six (6) year “conditional” residence permit which would allow them to live legally in the United States, obtain driver’s licenses, attend college as in-state residents, work legally (including obtaining a social security number), and apply for special travel documents which would allow for travel outside of the country for limited amounts of time.

During the six years of conditional status, the eligible immigrant would be required to either (1) graduate from a two-year community college, (2) complete at least two years towards a 4-year degree, or (3) serve two years in the U.S. military. After the six year period, an immigrant who meets at least one of these three conditions would be eligible to apply for legal permanent resident (green card) status. During their temporary time, immigrants would not be eligible for federal higher education grants such as Pell grants, though they would be able to apply for student loans and work study.

If the immigrant does not meet the educational or military service requirement within the six year time period, his temporary residence would be revoked and he or she would be subject to deportation. During the six years, the immigrant must not commit any crimes other than those considered non-drug related misdemeanors, regardless of whether or not they have already been approved for permanent status at the end of their six years. Being convicted of a major crime, or drug-related infraction would automatically remove the six year temporary residence status and he or she would be subject to deportation. If the immigrant meets all of the conditions at the end of the 6-year conditional period, he or she would be granted a permanent green card with the same rights as a permanent resident alien, including the right to apply for U.S. citizenship.

Based on this description I think the DOD sees the childern of Illegal Aliens as potential recruits for the Armed forces

    NGR1973,
I see your point and I think you have a lot of validity. But remember when we first started using cars there weren’t gas stations on every corner either and the infrastructure for that took time to build. Although I have my doubts about EEStor’s claims lets assume the best and we are on our way to a gasoline free future “Gas stations” could be converted to “Charging stations” for those who just have to have that full five minute charge for a 500 mile trip which is about twice as long as a fill up takes now (if you figure a 17 to 21 gal tank) now not everyone will need the full five minutes most would only need to “top off” or just enough for the day and then there is nothing that says one couldn’t trickle charge their battery over night (8 to 10 hrs)a at home to get enough juice to run the next day for oh say 100-120 miles worth of travel which I believe is more than most ( outside of LA) . But in any event whether we go to a direct Hydrogen system, fuel cell type of system or this kind of battery concept the infrastructure will have to change to meet the new challenges for what ever technology reaches viability. Still it is very good insight on your part to recognize some of the inherent difficulties of going to this kind of system. And although I do defiantly see your point I just don’t think the problems associated with going to this kind of system would be all that insurmountable

Just like there are different version of the airplane for each of our Armed service and the Royal Air Force and Navy there are different versions of source code to run the airplane. And hence there will be provided a “export” source code available for export models. in the case of the F16 and the F2(Japanese version F-16) I believe that Lockheed provides the source code for those planes in the form of a little box sent form the US .

Very interesting mix of east and west hardware! I recognized the T72’s but were those Leopard A1’s in the mix I heard that Poland was thinking about getting M1A1’s from the US.

Well said and I agree however I have improvement to your argument. Immigrants are people that move to a country and then seek to assimilate and become part of the culture into which they have moved. these people are not illegal immigrants they are Illegal Aliens the vast majority have no intention staying here unless they can change this country in to an copy of the one they just came from.
