If I recall correctly, gays were classified 4F during previous military drafts. In the event that the draft is brought back, what will happen to gays who do not want to serve? Michelle Obama wants American children to lose weight so that they can be inducted. Could it be, that Obama also wants to enlarge the pool of possible inductees?

We at Intersections are deeply saddened by the stabbing incident on Tuesday evening, perpetrated against a Muslim New York City cab driver. Our earnest prayers are extended to the victim, Mr. Ahmed Sharif, for a full and speedy recovery. There is no place in this city, or anywhere else, for such senseless acts of violence. We are further saddened that the person charged with this crime, Michael Enright, has been a volunteer with Intersections for the past year. Mike’s work with us was generous and responsible. He shared our vision for a diverse and peaceful world and our prayers go...

“We are moving forward with or without BP. We gave them two choices – they can either send us a check, get out of the way and let us start this work, or they can sign a contract and do it themselves. We are going ahead without them. Last night, we met with Admiral Allen and he said he feels like he is making progress in getting BP to actually pay for this work. To date, BP has done a great job in sending us press releases and attorneys, but they haven’t sent us any money to dredge.”

I've been looking for mention of Obama having declared a Federal state of emergency for Louisiana.I've read that particular parishes and the state of Louisiana have declared states of emergency, but can't find any mention of Obama releasing federal funds to Louisiana.Bush released funds two days before Katrina struck.

BATON ROUGE, La. -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Louisiana Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness are coordinating with other federal, state and local agencies to clean up and reduce the environmental impact of the oil spills in Louisiana. Just two months after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita spilled more than nine million gallons of oil, the oil recovery effort is now 95 percent complete according to the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).

I have limited time and money, which I'd like to put to the best use I can. There are so many conservative organizations. Which ones are most successful at counteracting Obama's schemes? I already support some groups. Naming them might discourage other ideas.

Fundamental truths are often beyond the grasp of people with advanced degrees — you know, the Parenthetical People on the coasts imbued with wisdom absorbed during erudite cocktail conversations in Hollywood and Manhattan and Brussels... Americans want to be cheerful and hopeful, not negative and enraged... If you question the intelligence of the people, try to turn them against God, send a negative message, encourage rage, and offer a free lunch and more Government, you are swimming upstream. ... Americans generally like America, and they don’t think Obama’s plan to turn it into Cuba is such a great idea... “The...

One topic that has only recently begun to attract attention is the Nazi anti-tobacco movement. Germany had the world's strongest anti smoking movement in the 1930s and early 1940s,supported by Nazi medical and military leaders worried that tobacco might prove a hazard to the race. Many Nazi leaders were vocal opponents of smoking. Anti-tobacco activists pointed out that whereas Churchill, Stalin, and Roosevelt were all fond of tobacco, the three major fascist leaders of Europe-Hitler, Mussolini, and Franco-were all non-smokers. Hitler was the most adamant, characterising tobacco as "the wrath of the Red Man against the White Man for having been...

Angry over poor services and unemployment, South Africans responded with violence in different townships across the country on Wednesday (July 22). In Thokoza township and Meyerton, police tried to control the stone-throwing protesters with tear gas and rubber bullets. In the northeastern region of Mpumalanga, residents in Balfour threatened to burn down municipal offices if they would not release the 100 people arrested in protests on Tuesday (July 21). A crowd of protesters heckled a group of councilors at the local stadium. Trade unions demand more pay and benefits, and threaten to continue with strikes. The recession, caused by the...

American Mensa is distraught to hear of the violent events at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, June 10. Our thoughts are with the victims and the family and friends of Stephen Tyrone Johns, the security guard who was killed in the attack. The accused shooter in this event, James Von Brunn, is a former member of American Mensa. Mr. Von Brunn was a member more than 20 years ago and his membership tenure lasted less than a year. Mensa has more than 57,000 members across the United States and more than 110,000 members worldwide. Our members include...

An Army helicopter on a training exercise crashed this afternoon at Wheeler Army Airfield at Schofield Barracks, and there are initial reports of multiple injuries. Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Earle Kealoha said firefighters responded to a call of a downed aircraft at 3:34 p.m. But when they arrived four minutes later, federal fire crews already had the fire under control. The airfield houses helicopters assigned to both 25th Infantry Division and the Hawaii Army National Guard. The Federal Aviation Administration said initial reports indicate that the crash involved a military helicopter. An Army spokesman confirmed that the aircraft was a...

Dr. Leon R. Kass, a widely published author, award-winning humanities teacher, and one of America’s leading moral philosophers and experts on medical ethics, will deliver the 2009 Jefferson Lecture in the Humanities, the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) announced today. The annual NEH-sponsored Jefferson Lecture is the most prestigious honor the federal government bestows for distinguished intellectual achievement in the humanities. “Leon Kass is an outstanding scholar, a gifted teacher, and one of our nation’s leading humanists,” said NEH Acting Chairman Carole M. Watson. “He has brought the wisdom of the humanities to bear on many topics, from bioethics...

But what to do now? Exactly what the U.S. could have done before: recognize the cease-fire as a false peace, present the Iraqi Army with an ultimatum -- to get rid of Saddam Hussein or the U.S. will resume the air attack on military targets and every high officer will be tried for war crimes. With the killer gone, Iraqis can be left to their own political settlements. The only duty of the U.S. is to allow those who trusted us to return to their homes, free of terror. But to do that, Mr. Bush must show true strength --...

Mr. Greenspan’s legacy may ultimately rest on a more deeply embedded and much less scrutinized phenomenon: the spectacular boom and calamitous bust in derivatives trading.[snip] “Proposals to bring even minimalist regulation were basically rebuffed by Greenspan and various people in the Treasury,” recalled Alan S. Blinder, a former Federal Reserve board member and an economist at Princeton University. “I think of him as consistently cheerleading on derivatives.”[snip] Robert E. Rubin, the Treasury secretary then. Treasury lawyers concluded that merely discussing new rules threatened the derivatives market [snip] In early 1998, Mr. Rubin’s deputy, Lawrence H. Summers, called Ms. Born* and...

Like his predecessors, Obama must master the presidential protocol that has long ruled the White House. From military salutes to the presidential march to the customs by which foreign visitors are welcomed, every commander-in-chief must respect the traditions that have come to define the office.
