In announcing a DOJ investigation in the NYC death of Eric Garner, Attorney General Holder says, "All lives must be valued...all lives". He emphasized the last "all"...does that mean abortion will be illegal?

The rules now allow the little-known National Counterterrorism Center to examine the government files of U.S. citizens for possible criminal behavior, even if there is no reason to suspect them.

According to the Army Times (dated Tuesday, September 30, 2008), “Beginning Oct. 1 for 12 months, the 1st BCT [Brigade Combat Team] will be under the day-to-day control of U.S. Army North, the Army service component of Northern Command, as an on-call federal response force for natural or manmade emergencies and disasters, including terrorist attacks.” The article continued by saying, “But this new mission marks the first time an active unit has been given a dedicated assignment to NorthCom, a joint command established in 2002 to provide command and control for federal homeland defense efforts and coordinate defense support of...

EDITORIAL - Yesterday, the Politico quoted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as saying, "I'm trying to save the planet; I'm trying to save the planet." She was responding, of course, to pressure that she and her fellow Democrats are experiencing to suspend a congressional ban on offshore oil drilling in the face of skyrocketing energy prices. It would be really wonderful, however, if the liberal congresswoman could get as energized about saving our once great republic. Herein lies another problem: the vast majority of our politicos (from both major parties) do not even seem to know what kind of country the...

A friend of mine recently wrote to me saying, “My wife is retiring in June after thirty years of teaching. A high school degree means nothing. No Child Left Behind is an even bigger joke. It is a scary situation that could lead us to third world status, but we are prepared for that since we already teach English as a second language.”

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton said that if she became president, the federal government would take a more active role in the economy to address what she called the excesses of the market and of the Bush administration. In one of her most extensive interviews about how she would approach the economy, Mrs. Clinton laid out a view of economic policy that differed in some ways from that of her husband, Bill Clinton. Mr. Clinton campaigned on his centrist views, and as president, he championed deficit reduction and trade agreements. Reflecting what her aides said were very different conditions today, Mrs....

A Minnesota college student was suspended and ordered to undergo "mental health evaluation" for his response to campuswide e-mails from school officials concerning the Virginia Tech massacre. The college, Hamline University, a private, liberal-arts institution affiliated with the Methodist Church, has a policy on "Freedom of Expression and Inquiry" that guarantees that Hamline students will be "free to examine and discuss all questions of interest to them and to express opinions publicly or privately." With such a strong guarantee on students' "freedom from censorship and control" by the university, student Troy Scheffler's e-mail must have been horrifically bad to warrant...

NEW YORK - Pushing politics aside, Republican Gov. Charlie Crist and former Democratic President Bill Clinton took the stage together to announce that Florida Power & Light will build a solar power plant in Florida as part of a $2.4 billion clean energy program. "This is a huge deal for America and I think potentially a huge deal for people all around the world who want to do this," said Clinton, who introduced Crist and company Chief Executive Lew Hay at the beginning of the Clinton Global Initiative conference. The conference is focused on finding ways to solve some of...

KUT, Iraq - American commanders in southern Iraq say Shiite sheiks are showing interest in joining forces with the U.S. military against extremists, in much the same way that Sunni clansmen in the western part of the country have worked with American forces against al-Qaida. Sheik Majid Tahir al-Magsousi, the leader of the Migasees tribe here in Wasit province, acknowledged tribal leaders have discussed creating a brigade of young men trained by the Americans to bolster local security as well as help patrol the border with Iran. He also said last week's assassination of Abdul-Sattar Abu Risha, who spearheaded the...

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards told a labor group that he would ask Americans to make a big sacrifice: their sport utility vehicles. "I think Americans are actually willing to sacrifice," Edwards said Tuesday during a forum held by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. "One of the things they should be asked to do is drive more fuel efficient vehicles." The former North Carolina senator was asked specifically if he would tell them to give up their SUVs, he said, "Yes."

A high-pressure system hovered over Florida last week, shielding it from Hurricane Dean's devastating 160 mph winds. But if the storm had arrived in mid-September it could have been a different story. Ocean temperatures, trade winds and the jet stream all work together to carry hurricanes to the United States. But the Bermuda high, more than any other single factor, determines where they hit. Last week, the Bermuda high was strong enough to push Dean south and west of the peninsula and through the Caribbean. The high develops in summer between Bermuda and the Portuguese Azores islands, bringing warm weather...

One of the biggest questions of the day is health care - why are people being denied this most basic human right, what to do about those who cannot afford it, why are so many uninsured in this greatest nation on Earth, why are costs skyrocketing, and not if, but when, should we turn over health care to our federal nanny. It makes for tragic reading; but, is that because we are in such a tragic state, or could it be because the easiest way to pull off the single greatest income and power grab by the federal government in...

Although candidates will be forced to discuss a laundry list of special interest issues throughout the campaign season, abortion, gay rights, campaign reform, health care, social security, just to name a few, the 2008 national election is likely to be decided upon two issues that no candidate has offered a good solution for yet.

In Peru, Ines Gonzalez-Lehman directed a 14-person marketing team at a high-tech firm. After marrying an American and immigrating legally to the U.S., she found herself making copies and answering phones at the bottom of the corporate ladder. The immigration reform bill that recently failed in the Senate would have increased the number of visas for highly educated workers. But there remain tens of thousands of skilled immigrants like Gonzalez-Lehman who are here and authorized to work, but stuck in jobs where their experience is wasted.

WASHINGTON, July 14 — When a comprehensive immigration bill collapsed last month on the Senate floor, it was a victory for a small group that had been lobbying Congress for a decade to reduce the number of immigrants — legal and illegal — in the United States. The group, Numbers USA, tracked every twist and turn of the bill. Its members flooded the Senate with more than a million faxes, sent through the organization’s Web site. It supplied arguments and information to senators opposing the bill. “It was a David-and-Goliath struggle,” said Roy H. Beck, the president of Numbers USA,...

TALLAHASSEE -- Florida will adopt California's car-pollution standards -- the toughest in the nation -- and become the first state in the Southeast to enact targets for reducing greenhouse gases, under executive orders Gov. Charlie Crist plans to sign Friday in Miami.

History was made June 28, 2007. History that has its roots in the 18th century Colonies of the United States of America. The colonists of that time disagreed with the policies of its present government – Great Britain. They felt what the government was doing was unfair and needed to be stopped. When all else failed, the colonists eventually resorted to taking up arms against its government.

"Three Republican Senators, John McCain, John Thune, and Norm Coleman have stepped forward to introduce the Broadcaster Freedom Act, as questions linger about comments attributed to Senators Hillary Clinton and Barbara Boxer regarding re-imposition of the so-called Fairness Doctrine on broadcasters. The Fairness Doctrine is viewed by many on the political left as a way to muzzle or silence conservative talk radio."
