The U.S. Coast Guard said it was notified at approximately 2 a.m. on Sunday that the 656-foot vehicle carrier Golden Ray was disabled and listing heavily with a fire on board in the St. Simons Sound. The ship had a total of 24 people on board, including 23 crew members and 1 pilot.

This is a northeast suburb of Atlanta in Gwinnett County SUWANEE — Five Gwinnett County firefighters are being held hostage at home in Suwanee. Gwinnett County police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter said that, as of 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, a gunman was holding the handful of firefighters hostage at a home at 2440 Walnut Grove Way, not far from the intersection of Collins Hill and Taylor roads. Dennis Fleming, 61, of Farmington, New Hampshire, who fired his handgun into the ground to scare an alleged burglar... is now facing a felony charge... The single grandfather had returned home to find that his home had been burglarized and spotted Joseph Hebert, 27, climbing out of a window at a neighbor's home... Fleming said he yelled "Freeze!" before firing his gun into the ground, then held Hebert at gunpoint until police arrived... ...when the police arrived, they made two arrests. Woodruff Park remained quiet and empty early Wednesday morning after Atlanta police reclaimed the park, arresting 53 protesters after multiple warnings. ...Deputy Atlanta Police Chief Calvin Moss announced at 11:52 p.m. that the executive order allowing protesters to stay in the park has been revoked. Mock Georgia Militia soldiers and Civil War-era civilians will re-enact the surrender of the Augusta Arsenal of 1861 at the Augusta Museum of History Jan. 22. Members of the Palmetto Riflemen & New York Zouaves reenactment group will perform the free demonstration at 10a.m. and again at noon, said the museum’s executive director Nancy Glaser. So I went walking at lunch today, about noon time, and low and behold, I came across a tea party in progress in front of the Equitable building on Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta. Is it a coincidence that this is where Rep. John Lewis's office is located? Hmmmmm, I think not. There were maybe 30 or so folks walking with signs ranging from: 'Fair Tax' to 'No Socialized Medicine' to 'Get Us Out Of The UN'. I don't know who any of these people are or who organized it.
