I’m too tired to be ‘amped’, frankly. The last load, which involved carrying stuff upstairs & also down the stairs into the basement, really took ‘it’ (energy, etc.) out of me. So ... what am I doing today? Hauling another load! The truck bed is packed full as of last night (I have become an ‘expert’ packer) and I still have to pack the trailer. It’s foggy here this morning, so once the fog burns off, I’ll load. Showers here, there & on the way are supposed to be widely scattered, so hoping nothing gets too wet - hauling some wooden bookshelves mom needs in her office. She also bought a comforter set for her bed & wants to try it out, so she’ll be along on this trip. I will need her help ‘wrangling’ the shelves.

I think I found the ‘right’ moving company - found them because they got a great writeup as one of the top companies in the state. They do mostly local moves, but do instate as well. Mom’s big fear was having her furniture on a big truck with other families’ furniture going other places & taking days for the move. Two trucks are scheduled & only our stuff will be on them. The guy I worked the details out with was outstanding & I hope the crew is the same. We can reschedule if we need to, just call them by 7 am. (it’s still hurricane season & we get remnants that cause flooding, etc - like today).

I had a ramp put up when dad was in the hospital - he only used it 4 times; however, most of the stuff I have moved I could not have gotten out of the house without that ramp. The movers are happy we have one & it will help them move us in one day. “Funny” how that ramp has worked out.

Oops - Sunday, not tomorrow for Rescue the Republic. Park service is getting nervous & has changed the venue .... prayers for all attending & speakers that those behind the J6 persecutions don’t try the same here. There was a pipe bomb planted for J6, but because of how the chaos at the Capitol worked out, it wasn’t used ....

Rescue the Republic event in DC tomorrow ....

    https://jointheresistance.org/about-us/

What started as Defeat The Mandates, an historic idea to bring together the world’s leading COVID-19 dissidents in the early days of the vaccine mandates, and Rage Against The War Machine in the wake of the Ukrainian conflict, has now become today’s Rescue the Republic: Join The Resistance.

The same team of visionary leaders who organized and rose up to send the strong message of “We will not comply” are raising voices once again to protest the ongoing dismantling and destruction of Western values across the globe.

On Sunday, September 29th we will come together on the sacred grounds between the WWII Memorial and the Washington Monument to rally again and say with one voice:

“We will NOT COMPLY with tyranny! We will RESCUE THE REPUBLIC!”

This is our moment to defend and celebrate the values and principles that have made America and the West the freest, fairest and most productive society the world has ever known. At its heart the West is an agreement to distribute opportunity as widely as possible, and to allow the market to reward those who produce wealth from which we collectively benefit. Our civilization today is in grave danger and every single principle on which the West is based is under simultaneous threat. This moment demands radical change and requires liberals, conservatives, and independents of every color and creed to unify to rescue the West.

The West aims to level the playing field and distribute opportunity as widely as possible.

Today the West is in grave danger as every single principle upon which it is based is under simultaneous threat.

    These principles include:
    – Freedom of speech, assembly and religion
    – Presumption of innocence
    – The right to privacy
    – The consent of the governed being the sole basis for governmental legitimacy
    – Equal protection under the law
    – A color-blind society
    – Property rights
    – The right to challenge evidence and confront witnesses
    – The right to informed consent

Western values and democratic principles have been weakened, degraded and dismantled by expanding and increasingly entrenched industrial complexes, often led by radical ideologues.

Masquerading as the voice of the people, unholy alliances between big business, government and philanthropic organizations pose an existential threat to the West.

War is always the last resort

    Medical Industrial Complex
    Vs.

    Censorship Industrial Complex
    Vs.

    Immigration Industrial Complex
    Vs.
    Enact a rational border policy

    Injustice Industrial Complex
    Vs.

When I looked at “images”, trying to figure out what it was, none were as solid black as this one. You can see a tiny hint of green near the stem, but it’s pretty much a fairly shiny black all over.

The co-op had bins of gourds & the different ones are fascinating to see - so colorful, many very odd with warts, etc.

    A solution: The Squirrelinator trap.

I used it for a couple of years to trap squirrels that were chewing up the bird feeders. The great thing is that you don’t need to ‘set’ the trap, other than to put bait in it. A cracker with peanut butter & black oil sunflower seeds on top was the favorite around our place. In 2-3 years, I trapped 60 gray squirrels.

My brother just borrowed a trap for his bird feeder set-up, told me he had “4” that were messing up things. I just laughed ... told him it was more than 4. I don’t think he believed me at first, but he just messaged me with a picture of #12 and said “you were right, they keep on coming!”

The squirrels I trapped were not catch/release. My brother is taking his squirrels about 5 miles away and releasing them (that would be 120 miles so far!). His wife won’t tolerate ‘termination’.

Here’s a link ... it’s actually somewhat entertaining to watch the squirrels ... when they finally make it into the trap, they are SO happy ... merrily eating the bait. When they decide it’s time to leave and can’t, that’s when the ‘drama’ begins. You rarely catch more than one gray squirrels at a time ... very territorial. If a young squirrel is in the trap, an older more aggressive squirrel may also go in. The younger one either gets beaten up or killed. ‘Ground squirrels” are a different story & multiple squirrels will go in the trap (pics on the website showing many squirrels in the trap).

I would recommend the one with a basin.

    “orchiectomy and vaginoplasty”

    **************

Fake vaginas are not pleasant (based on accounts from males who have had them ‘installed’ surgically) .... the recipients have to take measures to keep them from closing up, they’re subject to constant infections, can be quite painful & sometimes, the surgery just doesn’t work at all and necrosis occurs or there are other very unpleasant, constantly painful, sometimes fatal results. Hopefully, this murdering guy will get the surgery result he deserves.

Back in the days when I was on Reddit, a guy wrote a description (all the nitty gritty details that are rarely made public) of his transition to female ... he’d had the surgery. His new ‘vagina’ was a source of constant infection & pain & required ‘maintenance’ to keep it from closing (’nuff said here). His life was a shambles due to the aftermath of his surgery ... not at all what he had envisioned or expected. He was seriously depressed & suicidal and considering the physical hell his life had become, I would doubt very much he’s still alive. I have never forgotten what he wrote ... I think about it every time this form of mutilation hits the latest news cycle, political speech, or whatever. Adults are one thing & that is bad enough ... anyone facilitating and/or mutilating children should be dealt with harshly, IMO.

The ‘chicken palace’ was an old shed my brother refurbished so the location wasn’t one chosen for the coop - it was use what you have. Despite ‘improvements’ & fixing places where critters got in, they would always find a new place to dig, climb, squeeze, or whatever. There was another smaller coop in the yard ... I helped put up the fencing for that one - buried fence at least a foot deep (or more) all the way around. Except for one small spot ... of course, the fox found that spot & massacred 5 chickens in one night.

No permanent ‘coop’/run for me. I want a chicken tractor & after looking at some commercial ones, I ‘think’ I can keep the critters out & keeping it moving should help keep the critters guessing.

I was telling mom last night that I need to figure out a compost pile ... it’s more a ‘location’ issue than anything else.

When I started using raised beds, the dirt was from an old brush pile in the back field - when the bulldozer pushed the debris into a pile, it got a lot of fairly rich topsoil pushed in as well. As the brush pile decayed, the dirt improved even more. The issue with it is that it is ‘heavy’ & compacts.

For years, I bought bags of Leaf Gro every spring & added it to the beds. The soil got ‘lighter’ & stopped compacting into a hard ‘crust’ on top - as of last year, it was ‘beautiful’ soil due to Leaf Gro & ‘home’ compost. I started a leaf compost pile 3 years ago because Leaf Gro went over $5 a bag & I just didn’t want to spend that kind of money when our trees were dropping massive amounts of leaves every fall.

I have cow neighbors now (poultry, too but I can’t stand the smell) so I might add some cow manure to the soon-to-be compost heap - not a lot, but I think it would be a nice addition. One issue I see are the oak leaves we now have which are big, ‘thick’ & don’t break down easily. I took a couple of bags mom raked off the new house porch & put them in my old homestead compost bin (all maple) - the oak haven’t broken down much at all. I think the remedy will be to mow over piles collected before going into a compost pile.

Looking forward to some ‘rich’ soil in the raised beds in a year or two - it will take some work.

Critters .... the only effective deterrent (other than a totally electrified fence) I know of is a dog. My SIL has no ‘critter’, deer or crow problems because they have a dog. The previous dog, a Brittany Spaniel, would actually kill possums & skunks he found in the yard. The current dog, a mild-mannered Collie, ‘barks & bounces’ & chases other animals away. Since the dogs were & are not outside in the yard all the time, I think the smell of dog keeps critters away. No such luck with the chicken coop which was away from the yard & inside the wood line ... possums, coons & foxes all raided.

Super aggravating to put in a lot of work on plants, veggies, chickens, etc. & then find them chewed on, damaged or destroyed. :-(

My cousin gave me a “tip”* on preventing blossom end rot years ago & I just don’t have the issue any more. It’s dried milk! Evidently the calcium in the dried milk is in a form the plants can readily take up.

My cousin scratched a couple tablespoons in the dirt (top dressing) when planting, then watered it in. When I plant tomatoes, I take the dirt from the hole, put it in a 5-gallon bucket, add my amendments (dried milk, Tomato Tone, some organic fertilizer), mix it up & use the mix to refill the hole around the tomato plants, then water in. You can also mix up the milk with water & water the plants with it if the plants are already in the ground.

    * At the local country store, my cousin ran into an elderly country farmer, known for his beautiful tomatoes. When asked how he avoided blossom end rot, he explained his use of dried milk. After successfully using dried milk, my cousin passed the tip on to me when he visited during tomato growing season.

When I drove up the driveway last evening, part of it was covered in leaves! ‘Fall’ is definitely here and falling, all over the driveway, patio & yard. The front is oak leaves, the back are tiny maple leaves which will go in the raised beds. The small leaves are what I have at the old homestead & they disintegrate quickly.

It’s 79° & feels like 82° after a pleasantly cool morning. If we don’t get showers this afternoon (in forecast after 2 pm, but widely scattered) I will start mowing. Showers tomorrow too, but less chance than today.

I am keeping our new place mowed & trimmed so people think someone is living there 100% of the time. When my cousin’s widow visits, the first thing she says as she gets out of the car ....”looks like someone lives here!” ... music to my ears.

The grass has definitely slowed down - I last mowed 3 weeks ago. The old homestead is still needing it at least every 2 weeks.
