Rudolph the Homicidal Reindeer HELSINKI, Finland (AP) — A reindeer injured an elderly couple in the wilds of Finnish Lapland, in a rare attack that caused injuries needing hospital treatment, officials said Monday. A male reindeer suddenly appeared from a forest and attacked a man who was hiking Sunday with his partner near Kittila, about 620 miles north of Helsinki. The buck butted the man to the ground and kicked him before turning on the woman who was talking to her son on a mobile phone, Kittila fire chief Jorma Ojala said. The son alerted rescue workers who arrived in...

Praise for the President Jane Fonda (search) has called President Bush a "radical ideologue" — but that opinion didn't stop her from praising the first family in an interview this week. Fonda told the New York Post that First Lady Laura Bush's controversial comedy routine at the White House Correspondents' Dinner was "really funny. Her approval rating is way up, as it should be." And when the interviewer criticized the president's performance at a recent news conference, Fonda came to his defense saying, "I thought he was very impressive." And, she added, "I don't know him, but I have always...
  • Why Truman Defeats Dewey - and Bush Beats Kerry?

An incumbent President from the heartland faces a strong, experienced challenger from the Northeast. The challenger is strong in part because the incumbent seems weak -- inarticulate and gaffe-prone. But not too weak: Insiders make jokes about him, but he seems to connect with ordinary voters outside the Boston-New York-Washington, D.C. corridor. (Within that corridor he is plainly unpopular, and the Northeastern media overwhelmingly oppose his reelection.) When he came to office, the incumbent had only modest experience. No one had thought of him as a major player in American government during the decade before he moved to the White...

The Writing On The Wall | Yuri Suhl
Found this is my sister's English Text Book from the 1970's. I think this speaks volumes on the justness of our war on terror today. The Permanent Delegate by Yuri Suhl My name is Jew. I come from the land of skeleteon. They beat me in Berlin, tortured me in Warsaw, shot me Lublin And I am still here -- the ash of my bones a glowing monument, a fiery headstone. I am the scorched hair of a virgin's bright curls smoothed and patted by anxious hands I am a maddened mother's futile tears soothing in vain a hundred anguished...

Challenging the Qur’an A German scholar contends that the Islamic text has been mistranscribed and promises raisins, not virgins By Stefan Theil NEWSWEEK INTERNATIONAL July 28 issue — In a note of encouragement to his fellow hijackers, September 11 ringleader Muhammad Atta cheered their impending “marriage in Paradise” to the 72 wide-eyed virgins the Qur’an promises to the departed faithful. Palestinian newspapers have been known to describe the death of a suicide bomber as a “wedding to the black-eyed in eternal Paradise.” But if a German expert on Middle Eastern languages is correct, these hopes of sexual reward in the...

Jurist Objects to Odor In Court After Defendent Raises a Stink SAN DIEGO--The "Bad Hair Bandit" turned into the "Bad Air Bandit" after he cleared a courtroom Thursday. That was just one of the jokes lawyers made as they waited outside the felony arraignment courtroom in downtown San Diego for deodorant sprays to cleanse the air of pungent traces of what Charles B. Fowler Jr. left behind. One lawyer suggested calling hazardrous materials speciaists. Another said the incident could provide the impetus for training courtroom deputies to diaper defendants. Fowler got his original nickname from law enforcement who noticed his...

[05/05/03] - I'm An Information Minister, Get Me Out Of Here! Now, we all know that the battle for Baghdad is still raging, but all these infidel invaders around me are making it difficult for me to go about my everyday business as the esteemed Information Minister of the exalted Information Ministry. The war is going exactly to plan but those cunning but otherwise brainless Coalition troops are refusing me leave to perform my business just because I do not appear on some stupid pack of playing cards issued by that Superpower of Al Capone. Well if those troops, who...

Bush Orders Iraq To Disarm Before Start Of War WASHINGTON, DC—Maintaining his hardline stance against Saddam Hussein, President Bush ordered Iraq to fully dismantle its military before the U.S. begins its invasion next week. Friday, Dec. 20, 2002 Anyone Who Questions Sen. Murray Is 'Right-Wing Hater' Left-wing Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., is not as wimpy as Republicans are when they're caught saying something naughty. She and her handlers are defending her praise of Osama bin Laden's supposed good deeds. "Having a challenging and thoughtful discussion about Americas [sic] future reflects the best values of a free democracy [sic]; to sensationalize and distort in an attempt to divide is not," she said in statement today. Murray's spokesman, Todd Webster, fumed, "This is being turned into a circus by the right-wing media outlets and fed by...
