EMP or ElectroMagnetic Pulse is a disturbance that affects and sometimes destroys electrical and electronic devices. SNIP Much is uncertain about an EMP attack. It might not be as bad as the worst case. It might turn out that our infrastructure is fairly resistant. We don’t know a lot because not enough testing has been done. We do know that relatively minor efforts at hardening could make a huge difference in national survival. Yet nothing is being done. SNIP For some reason best explained by psychiatrists, we are spending vast sums, potentially trillions, to reduce CO2 emissions in order to...

Students whose flyers were censored by Dixie State University in St. George, Utah, won their First Amendment lawsuit Thursday—on Constitution Day—when a settlement was reached restoring students’ rights to free speech. Three students filed the lawsuit after their flyers, with unflattering depictions of President Obama, former President George W. Bush, and Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara, were banned by the university. Dixie State claimed no flyers that “mock” or “disparage” individuals were allowed. As part of Thursday’s settlement, Dixie State agreed to revise campus policies to meet First Amendment standards. These include the university’s unconstitutional flyer approval process, posting policies, club...

In May 2014, the city council of Houston, backed by the first openly gay mayor in America, Annise Parker, passed an equal rights ordinance that provided special protections against discrimination for certain individuals based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The Texas Supreme Court has now ruled that the city must either repeal the controversial measure, or place it on the ballot for the next general election. Critics had argued the ordinance would place an undue burden and risk on religious institutions and pushed back against it by rallying support with a petition to overturn the new law. The city...

We’ve recently brought to your attention two instances of nebulous language: the comments of retired General Wesley Clark about putting extremists in internment camps, and the new order making parts of our immigration naturalization oath optional for certain “religious” groups. Words have meaning, and when they’re not specific, they’re left to interpretation. The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) has demonstrated such by redefining the taxing authority of the Congress, as well as what a State means when it comes to the Affordable Care Act. And now we have yet another example of dangerously nebulous language emanating from Capitol...

A 2,500-word piece by Darren Samuelsohn for Politico certainly doesn't bury the lead: President Obama has twice asked Jon Stewart to make, as the story's headline puts it, "secret" visits to the White House to meet with him. The "previously unreported" meetings, which occurred in October 2011 (amid the budget battle) and February 2014 (right before Obama discussed Russia and Ukraine on TV), were confirmed via White House visitor logs and by three former aides to the president, and were used by Obama "as a chance to sell the administration’s ideas," per Samuelsohn, who interprets the meetings as such: "To...

A pastor shot and injured an intruder at the Church of New Beginnings in Baytown, Texas sometime after 6 a.m. Tuesday, police say. Pastor Benny Holmes was sleeping in his office when he woke up to the sound of someone attempting to break into the church. Holmes then armed himself and shot the burglary suspect in the right shoulder, according to ABC 13 Eyewitness News in Houston. The alleged intruder, identified as Lee Marvin Blue, was immediately taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital and is now in stable condition. Police described Blue as having an extensive criminal history. Last year, Pastor...

(Please Make Note Of The WARNING not everyone can bear to view this video) The brutality of ISIS in Iraq and Syria has been well documented – even al Qaeda warns ISIS not to be “too extreme.” But the horrors these monsters invent are terrifyingly new each day, and the latest example is the stuff of horror movies. Is our planet entering a new day where a large portion of our population is cloaked behind an “Iron Curtain” of Islamic barbarism? How can life continue “normally” in Syria, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Pakistan, Nigeria, Somalia, Egypt, Lebanon, Gaza and the West...

On CNN's Inside Politics, Politico’s Mike Allen reported on an new effort by Rand Paul to address the current view that he is allegedly an isolationist, reports Political Ticker. Allen said on the show that Rand is planning a high-profile speech at the National Defense University this fall to address critics, and attempt to reposition himself on the foreign policy spectrum. “He’s going to argue that he’s smack in the middle - the same place that George H.W. Bush was, that Reagan was, and that Ike was,” said Allen. There will be a lot of truth in Rand's attempt to...

A Democrat U.S. Civil Rights Commissioner made a rambling argument suggesting that certain speech should be outlawed on college campuses. According to The Daily Caller, Michael Yaki, also a former senior adviser to Nancy Pelosi (shocking), made his comments during a briefing last week. The civil rights commissioner said he favors outlawing speech that would be grossly unpopular, such as “a slave auction at a fraternity engagement” or a celebration of Latino culture that involves “making everyone dress as janitors and mop floors.” Are parties like that such a big problem on campuses? (No.) On occasion, a poorly-thought-out themed event...

Business interests are vowing to fight President Obama’s executive order imposing new restrictions on companies who want to do business with the federal government. Obama announced the action this week, ordering up new regulations that would require firms seeking federal contracts to disclose labor law violations and create new compliance advisors at agencies to oversee decisions about which firms get the work. But contractors, already facing executive orders requiring them to pay a higher minimum wage and subjecting them to additional anti-discrimination rules, say the president went too far. “We are concerned these sweeping changes threaten the due process rights...

There’s an excellent column at Real Clear Politics this weekend from Steve Chapman which I wanted to draw your attention to. It deals with the gradual evolution of gun laws in the United States – particularly in some of the least gun friendly, liberal bastions – and the role of the courts in this gradual migration. Gun-control advocates are learning the downside of getting their way. Recently, a federal judge struck down the District of Columbia’s ban on the carrying of concealed handguns. Anti-gun forces have been losing in legislatures for a long time. Now they are finding that even...

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) -- Israel withdrew most of its ground troops from the Gaza Strip on Sunday in an apparent winding down of the nearly monthlong operation against Hamas that has left more than 1,800 Palestinians and more than 60 Israelis dead. Even as Israel said it was close to completing its mission, heavy fighting raged in parts of Gaza, with at least 10 people killed in what U.N. and Palestinian officials said was an Israeli airstrike near a U.N. shelter. The United States lashed out at Israel, saying it was "appalled" by the "disgraceful" attack. And with...
