Been watching this for an hour and a half at cspan.com. Powell has been very good at the UN, but this time I think he was overworked. His tired speech seemed a canned hacking away at the same old points (there's a lot of that all around). Spain was wonderful. That lady had a lot of horse sense. They are standing tall. Straw of Britain was magnificent and drew applause. He personally challenged the French dip. several times. Probably a stretch of protocol, and it looked like the French weasel didn't appreciate it one bit. I had heard bad things...

Increasing numbers of black and Hispanic voters will doom the GOP's chances for electoral success by 2008. That's the assessment - not from conservative immigration opponent Pat Buchanan but instead from America's pre-eminent political strategist, Dick Morris. "The Hispanic and black population increase, particularly the Hispanic population, has made New Jersey and New York and California and is making Florida into solidly Democratic states," Morris told nationally syndicated radio host Sean Hannity on Tuesday. "Four years from now - and eight years from now - the Republican Party will be fighting for its life because of this," he warned. Morris...

OSLO, Norway - Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for his peace mediation efforts and promotion of human rights in what the awards committee said was a criticism of current U.S. policy and "a kick in the leg" to those following the same line. The Norwegian Nobel Committee cited the 78-year-old Carter's "decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development." The award — worth 10 million Swedish kronor (US$1 million) — singled out Carter's "vital contribution" to the...
  • Two more forum suggestions: one large, one small.

Kudos on the new forum format. Here are two more suggestions, one small and one large: First, I find that I'm most often more interested in who wrote a post than in who it was sent to. Accordingly, it would be easier to navigate if From: was listed at the top of each post, then followed on the same line by To: Second, after just perusing a very long article/comments, I've come to the conclusion that one-level threading is too limited. (IMO, newsgroups have the best multi-level threading characteristics; my mail client, Agent, also threads beautifully. But public html is...
  • Fallacious Line in AP Endorsement Article

    10/28/2000 3:42:05 PM PDT · by Paul_B · 2+ views
    AP, via Drudge | 10/28/2000 | Paul_B
Drudge currently links to an AP article carried by the Washington Post on endorsements for Bush. The last paragraph of the WP/AP article, supposedly quoted from the Billings Gazette, reads: "George W. Bush lacks the experience Gore has, but he carries a certain sincerity that bodes well. He has laid out his issues ... and he seems dedicated to achieve those goals. Perhaps more importantly, for Montanans, Bush is a westerner." The problem is tha the original, as currently posted at the Billings Gazette site DOES NOT CONTAIN the last sentence ANYWHERE in the text. Either the Gazette pulled an ...
