Tomorrow is Thanksgiving; 54 years ago, on this day, 200 thousand Chinese launched a surprise offensive against allied forces isolated around the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea, amid temperatures that dropped to twenty degrees below zero. For those of you who have ever stood a watch alone on Thanksgiving, far from home, you share an unspoken bond with service men and women abroad. Please say a prayer for all of your brethren, past and present, who served with honor and sacrifice on this holiday.

For all the Veterans, all their loved ones, and all who have supported us throughout the years; as we stand in rememberance of that fateful fall day in 1918 when the guns went silent...a piece I've posted before, I think... Evening in Arlington (Last line from Taps) as the last note waifs away, and the wind dies down, there is one solemn moment, suspended… and our grief for those gone becomes a brush that we pass across our opaque pain, so we may see them once more, before they fade forever into the evening mist… before some sound stirs this...

don't know if this is the right way to do this, but Freerepublic has been my family for some time- For my Pop, who passed away today- "Cpl Wayne E. Harden, 1539 Sixth Avenue, has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroism in action near Hukau-ri, Korea, according to an Army news release. Harden was a member of the Heavy Mortar Company of the Seventh Infantry Regiment, Third Division, and was cited for his actions on Dec. 5, 1950." For those who know the history, his Regiment and others supported the Marines deployed up and along the Chosin Reservoir....
