As the threat of terrorism looms, the economy deteriorates, and the culture flounders, one thing remains a constant in America: there will be baseball. It is true that football long ago surpassed baseball as the nation’s most popular sport, but Alexander Cartwright’s much beloved brainchild remains America’s pastime and purportedly the favorite sport of many conservative intellectuals.Inherently American and merit-based, baseball and conservatism appear to share as tight an embrace as Pee Wee Reese and Jackie Robinson after game seven of the 1955 World Series. “It has no clock, no ties and no Liberal intrusions into the organized progression,†conservative columnist...

The Republican/Conservative blog RedState is up for a WebLog award, specifically "Best of the Top 250 Blogs." Until very recently, RedState was walking away with this award. And then this happened. The huge liberal site DailyKos starting pimping a Democrat blog, Balloon Juice. In just the last hour, Balloon Juice has caught up. So, I have come to shamelessly and blatantly pimp RedState on Free Republic. Vote Early. Vote often (you can vote every 24 hours). Thank you and good night.

Three and a half years after launching a high-profile legal attack on Linux, The SCO Group has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The Lindon, Utah-based company long has maintained that it had enough money to fight its costly lawsuits against IBM, Novell, Red Hat (which sued SCO proactively), AutoZone and DaimlerChrysler. But on Friday, a month after losing on a crucial legal ruling, the company admitted a grimmer picture. "The Board of Directors of The SCO Group have unanimously determined that Chapter 11 reorganization is in the best long-term interest of SCO and its subsidiaries, as well as its...

Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama voted NO on the Iraq Funding bill last Thursday. We know this because every media outlet has shouted these headlines. Google lists 556 news stories to this effect. However, the $2.10 minimum wage increase was hitched to the Iraq funding bill, and $6.4 Billion Hurricane Katrina aid was piggybacked to the Iraq funding bill. Therefore, Clinton and Obama voted NO to the minimum wage increase and NO to the $6.4Billion Katrina aid package. This would normally leave a mark with the candidates' liberal party members. But you won't read about the Clinton and Obama "No" votes on...

Last night we had a fine time speculating as to whether the photo on the left, shown on the ANSWER web site, is genuine... or a Photoshop job. The photo at the right, found on the UPI web site, has the street lights in the same place, but it has more detail and a better background, making it possible to try to piece together where the photos were taken. I went out there today with my trusty camera and tried to find the same angle. I think we can say that the photo is most likely genuine. At left is my...

The Shrew's mother, Bonnie, passed away quietly Wednesday morning, November 1. All of her children and most of her grandchildren were able to be at her side or speak to her before she died. Her family had recently learned that a cancer thought to have been conquered had returned. To those of us who know him, The Shrew is a tireless worker on behalf of conservatism. He prefers to quietly get things done, without a lot of recognition. Let us remember The Shrew and his family as they struggle with the loss of their beloved mother.

She can't win. No one likes her. Her car is ugly and her horse can't talk. And now, the most damning evidence of all is being whispered and murmured from sea to shining sea: Katherine Harris has cooties. News-99 has obtained exclusive footage of a private meeting between Ms. Harris and her doctors in which the 49-year-old Harris is told the horrifying results of a recent series of blood tests. "You have cooties," the video shows the doctors saying.

The U.S. Navy boarded an apparent pirate ship in the Indian Ocean and detained 26 men for questioning, the Navy said Sunday. The 16 Indians and 10 Somali men were aboard a traditional dhow that was chased and seized Saturday by the U.S. guided missile destroyer USS Winston S. Churchill, said Lt. Leslie Hull-Ryde of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command in Bahrain. The dhow stopped fleeing after the Churchill twice fired warning shots during the chase, which ended 87 kilometers (54 miles) off the coast of Somalia, the Navy said. U.S. sailors boarded the dhow and seized a cache of...

The country is apparently being tele-spammed by hangup calls coming from something called "BANCOFAMINS." I started getting these calls yesterday. I Googled BANCOFAMINS and I found out this is a telemarketer's "predictive dialer" looking for live phone numbers. If you answer, they've found you, even if your number is unlisted. This thing will call at all hours of the day and night, trying to find somebody home. It will call your landline, it will call your cell. If you see BANCOFAMINS on your caller-id, do not answer.

More than 23,000 young Iraqis in the southern province of Dhiqar have responded to a call to set up a new battalion to protect the province. The provincial authorities have been swamped with applications, Governor Aziz Kadhem told the newspaper. He said the authorities had asked for maximum 1,000 volunteers but “we have received more than 23,000 applications so far.” The new force will be based in Nasiriya, the province’s capital and home to more than 550,000 people. Nasiriya, on the Euphrates River, is relatively quiet but, according to Kadhem, the new force is needed to bring stability across the...

WASHINGTON, May 8 - It is a cast worthy of a political thriller: a former convict whose claims about a former president and first lady spurred a criminal investigation; a prominent senator's brother-in-law, who worked undercover for federal agents looking into the case; political enemies of the former first family trying to dig up fresh dirt; and some of Hollywood's biggest stars. All these characters will share some of the spotlight beginning Tuesday in a Los Angeles courtroom, where David F. Rosen, the former fund-raising director for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, will go on trial on charges that he illegally...

With the notable exception of the NY Sun, the print media has been almost adamant in its determination to ignore David Rosen's indictment and impending trial for conspiring to falsify campaign finance reports for Hillary Clinton's 2000 senate campaign, most significantly by securing a fake invoice to support a much lower figure for the costs of a fundraiser. Such an understatement would have allowed the Clinton campaign to use campaign donations as hard money rather than soft money. Information and allegations related to a civil suit against Hillary's campaign and other parties will undercut the media's ability to ignore this...
