  • House infighting: Does Pelosi have a tea party problem?

It's MUCH WORSE. The tea party, and conservatives, and republicans agree almost completely on principles. Disagreements were on priorities, goals, and willingness to compromise principles to reach goals. When you have agreement on principles, you can negotiate.

Old dems (liberals) and new dems (progressives) disagree on principles. One of the most obvious principles they disagree is individual freedom
liberal: I disagree with what you say but will fight to death for your right to say it
progressive: I disagree with what you say so shut up. If you won't shut up, universities and media companies should shut you up. If they can't, the government needs to step in

Liberals and progressives have similar disagreements on freedom, rights, sovereignty & separation of powers (states rights, US vs UN rights, court vs legislation, etc) almost every principle.

From Wilson to Clinton, Ds followed classic liberal principles and incorporated progressive principles where they could - sometimes compromising liberal principles, but at least being aware that they were compromising principles they valued.

Obama ran on liberalism even though he and his administration ruled with progressive ideas. Then Bernie came along and got a lot of D voters to abandon liberalism (with much help from universities, media, etc). They have voters, members of congress, the media and many presidential candidates fighting against liberal principles. It's not a large percent of Ds, but they are very loud. And liberal Ds have A LOT MORE IN COMMON with Rs than with progressive Ds.

I don't see any D who can unite liberals and progressives - that's not possible on principle but could happen with a focus on goals. I can see Trump convincing a lot of liberal Ds how insane progressive Ds are and that progressives are the future of the party.

It’s not about being white. It’s about being progressive. Progressive principles require everyone hates everybody (including themself). When that happens, the government is the only possible solution to everything.

    > “The For The People Act”

Which people is this for? Certainly not US citizens.

Lenin, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Castro and many others are no doubt looking up with pride at the title of this bill. Bernie and AOC will “do it right” and, after learning from past mistakes, the theories of history’s dictators who acted “for the people” will be proved right.

I’m waiting for a group of high school boys to decide to identify as female (for 4 years). They can get college paid for and win numerous national championships if they go to the same school and play the same sports. And if they identify as a “female lesbian” they can date females without suspicion.

A few of my friends have daughters who took up a new sport just for a scholarship, so why not take up a new gender identity. Scholarships for female athletes are relatively easy to get compared to male athletes - in one case, the school was begging for female athletes or they’d have to eliminate a men’s team so got a scholarship in a sport she’d never done.

It’s time for “people-with-a-penis” to get in on the title IX action (because of equality, diversity, etc). And, based on my kids and their friends, none of their peers will care what they identify as - so a “female lesbian” won’t have any social trouble.

So many people say “Trump can’t do X” because of the precedent for the next D president. And “McConnel can’t do Y” because of the precedent.

Why would anyone think the next D to lead the senate won’t end the filibuster, or the next D president won’t use emergency powers for ANYTHING or Ds won’t undo all of Trump’s court success as soon as they have a chance? Obama showed his contempt for the Constitution, Reid showed his contempt for the senate and plenty of other Ds are telling us what they will do next time - it’s the one time we should believe them. It’s like when a Muslim country says “We will kill all non-believers” and liberals say “they don’t really mean it”.

The Constitution is “over” for Ds. If Rs don’t learn that soon, the Constitution is over for all of us.

THE CHILDREN: “People who were alive in the 70s and lived with people who were alive in the 1930s don’t know what the weather was like back then. Be WE do so WE will ‘do something’.”

Makes me think of the CNN newswoman during the Bataclan attack who said “this is the first time in history that Paris has been attacked” and “this is the first time in history that France has closed its border”. A few commercial breaks later they came back with the announcement that she meant “the first time since WWII”, not the first time in history.

“history” started at their birth for many of these children. Schools don’t teach history or the scientific method any more if these children are any indication.

I bet the traditions go all the way back to General Benedict Arnold.

I don’t care if you’re with King George, or modern-day elites. If you’re not with “the people” and The Constitution, you are a traitor. And at this time, “the people” have elected Trump to be commander-in-chief.

It’s great if you advise him in areas you disagree.

It’s fine if you let the world know you disagree with the elected US president.

It’s not OK if you attack him.

There can be a fine line between public disagreement and attacks. But “the pen is mightier than the sword” and the difference in intended outcome between “character assassination” vs “Lincoln assassination” may not be that big - what is the intent of this article?

Smart move. Anyone who runs as a democratic is too stupid to be a US president.

Barnum and Bailey abused elephants (until a few years ago)

The DNC still abuses donkeys. Only a real jackass would volunteer for their 2020 circus.

    > explaining it away as unintentional ignorance

    Ignorance vs Stupidity:
Ignorance can be fixed with learning. People have been informing her of her “ignorance” for 5-10 years. This is stupidity and that can’t be fixed.

This is no doubt stupidity from brainwashing in the environment she grew up with rather than stupidity from birth. But either way, there’s little likelihood of change. Pelosi just needs to get used to excusing it.

Trump should order the FBI to do same thing for family and friends of every candidate (D or R) for the 2020 election. If congress thinks it’s bad for the 60+ closest people to the president to have “done something bad” it would be good for the FBI to inform voters BEFORE the election.

the communist state can’t exist without a group of elites with superior intelligence to manage the lives of everyone else. if the media is managed properly the people will not be made aware of the lives of this group of elites.

this is a failure of the media that “the people” have been made aware of the live of the elite. expect a crackdown on the press.

The more they insist “he wanted a raise”, the less I think this was about a raise.

It’s something a known liar said about the motive for a crime after lying about the crime for weeks. Nobody can have confidence that he’s telling the truth about the motive.

My guess is the depression and hopelessness comes more from the left telling them how much their life is going to suck because of conservative discrimination and harassment than from actual discrimination and harassment. And because the left tells them that difficulties in school are because of the way they were born and everyone else will cause them trouble forever rather than because middle and high school are a social nightmare for almost everyone at one point or another and it doesn’t last forever.

I have many close relatives and friends who are LGBT. 2 relatives have attempted suicide and a few friends have discussed it with me. I’m not going to generalize about the entire community, but I do have real anecdotes that do apply to a very tiny subset of the community and “the right” is not the problem. “The left” would do much more good by giving hope than by attacking “the right” and selling expectations of a lifetime of discrimination and despair to members of the LGBT community.

The left NEEDS racism as an issue. Every once in a while they think they have an example, then a Smollett bites them in the butt.

It says a lot (of good) about our country that this is type of discrimination they are trying to build/continue their movement on. It’s not like the 1950’s when they could literally point out a Democrat every day to show a literal lynching. Today the problem is “Trump supporters want to dress and eat like the Mexicans they hate” rather than “Robert Byrd hung a black man or burned a cross”.

I wonder if Tlaib could explain why we never see “Burqa Crawl”? I’d bet that question could lead to an interesting discussion. I know plenty of people who would love to intentionally offend Muslims but don’t. And lots of people who love tacos, sombraros, and cinco de mayo but would never want to offend Mexicans as a group. Maybe Tlaib is just jealous there’s no “Burqa Crawl” and that we like Mexican culture more than hers.

(actual racism exists. I’m not denying that. But it’s not the systemic/ubiquitous problem they want to make it out as so they need things like this to bump up the “number of racists” in the country.)
