WASHINGTON - A second elections complaint against Rep. Jean Schmidt was filed Friday, this time over allegations that she misrepresented her educational background.

According to the complaint, filed with the state elections commission, Schmidt claimed on candidate surveys, previous campaign Web sites and in official Ohio House literature that she earned two bachelor's degrees from the University of Cincinnati, one in political science in 1974 and one in "social studies-secondary education" in 1986.

As a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1984, Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio) expressed her contempt for a future colleague and allegedly likened young Republican activists to Hitler, according to an interview published by the local paper at the time. While shadowing Schmidt at the convention, The Cincinnati Enquirer reporter initially described Schmidt as a “woman who will speak her mind whenever she pleases.” Schmidt, who was 32 at the time, provided evidence for this assessment during her time with the reporter, who quoted her taking issue with future Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-N.C.), who was then President Reagan’s transportation...

So who is this man, Bob McEwen? Voters in their mid 30s or younger may not know former congressman Bob McEwen. Marching behind the slogan “more jobs, less taxes,” McEwen is again challenging Jean Schmidt in the May 2 primary. McEwen represented Ohio’s Sixth District in the U.S. House of Representatives for six terms beginning in 1981. The time off as a government official has been very beneficial. “Watching Congress from the outside is educational,” said McEwen. “Spending the last 10 years in the private sector raising a family has been very beneficial. “I did a good job before (in...

So Many Faces,So Little Birdshot Ever since Dick Cheney shot his 78-year-old friend in the face with a shotgun, the news media everywhere has been totally obsessed with that story. Even hereabouts, our local Kneepad Liberals in the Press seemed similarly obsessed. With only 75 more days till our May 2 Primary Elections in Ohio, reporters were asking if "Mean Jean" Schmidt had ever shot a friend in the face. Maybe they should be asking if Her Meanness ever had a friend. When "TaxKiller Tom" Brinkman made his surprise announcement yesterday at Hamilton County GOP Headquarters that he planned to...
