• Snopes on Emory University/Trump Chalk kerfuffle: FALSE

    Snopes ^ | 3.24.2016 | Kim LaCapria
Claim: Students at Emory University were offered "emergency counseling" after pro-Trump graffiti appeared overnight in campus "safe spaces." Mostly False WHAT'S TRUE: Students at Emory University gathered in protest after pro-Trump graffiti appeared overnight; administrators investigated the graffiti as it appeared outside designated areas for chalk markings. WHAT'S FALSE: Counseling was offered to or demanded by anyone; students complained their "safe spaces" were violated; students were afraid or traumatized, not angry or protesting.

I know some wise FReeper will know this--in all this Sestak/Romanoff talk, they keep referring to whether there was a violation of a law/statute (?) and it sounds like they're saying 'hat check'. I've googled it nine ways to Sunday and I've had no luck. Smart FReepers, unleash your knowledge.

Hey, Arlen...when you put your finger in the political wind back in April, I guess it seemed smart--if only in the realm of self-preservation--to switch parties. Well...karma being a female dog and all, what may have seemed smart last spring ain't so smart today. If there's any justice in this world, the very defection that you thought would save your political career will instead sink it.
  • Vanity Question: What's the deal with all the (parenthesis)?

    02/07/2009 2:40:56 PM PST · by jra · 55 replies · 967+ views
Who's adding the parenthesis to all the headers? Mods? Has some decision been made to start doing this? I assume it's being done to help, but they are VERY distracting. I'd like to think that most--if not all--FR readers are knowlegeable and don't need to be told that Sarah Palin is a governor. In some cases, I can see where the help might be needed, but if opinions count here, my opinion is that it's being overdone.

Donovan Brown, the Democratic nominee in the race for Florida House District 61, said Thursday he is currently confined in a mental health facility under the Baker Act. Brown, 26, said he was admitted late last week to the Harbor Behavioral Health Care Institute in New Port Richey. Now he is yearning to get out, to get back on the campaign trail and prime voters ahead of the Nov. 7 election. "I need to be out with my constituents," he said in a phone interview from the Harbor. A Pasco Democratic Party official on Thursday confirmed Brown remains the nominee...

Despite the fact that Drudge is a pretty decent site for a one-click pulse of national/world news, I'm over the pop-ups. I clicked on TWO links, and ended up with SIX pop-ups. I'm not gonna risk having this thread deleted by trashing the guy, but it simply isn't worth it. Spare me the lectures about Firefox or anti-pop-up software, at some point enough is enough. Drudge Report is the ONLY site I get them on. /rant off
  • Vanity: Outlook won't let me send mail

Okay, here's the deal. Broadband (cable) internet with two PC's. His email works fine. He uses Netscape Mail. She uses Outlook, and can receive okay, but cannot send. Outlook gives an error message that the SMTP server timed out, to contact our ISP, but that can't be the true cause, since the other machine without Outlook works fine both coming and going. FWIW, the error number is 0x8004210B Any Outlook experts care to opine?

I'm thinking back to the 2000 debates. Wasn't there a question about education when then-governor Bush mentioned that the twins had gone to public school and the Gore kids had been sent to private school? If I remember correctly, Gore's response was a curt one-line like "I'll thank you for leaving my children out of this..." Did I imagine this? I've googled with no luck, been to the debates.org website and searched the transcripts--no luck there either. Does anyone else have any recollection of this who may know where to search for the quote? Trying to establish that the Dems...

The Bush administration, particularly in its highest echelons, has been remarkably free of major personnel changes and has managed to keep most of the president's key national security advisers intact.

But if Bush wins a second term, presidential historians say that trend will change, and fast.

I recieved my sample ballot for the Florida GOP primary today. The voter's guide I was given at church tells me that the candidates have almost identical views on all the issues. The key for me is to help choose the GOP candidate who has the best chance of winning in November. Any political handicappers want to help?

I'm having probs playing video clips--specifically ones that open from a hyperlink. I'm using Netscape--I believe 7.1, fwiw. When I click the link, I get a pageful of stuff that looks like this: 0&²uŽfϦÙ0&²uŽfϦÙÅÙÊ›}Ç<"Ç[±ÛjƀϢ[À úOä=ZÏêïwÿ¯Û¬wHüϯ»GD»?:®.à`øí£»1–8;q6ªÁçÁçà¨Zq½6Û ¶AÁ#" p| ÓÖ˜¹rÌÌ ” Now when I click the same link in IE, I'll usually get the video. Unfortunately, I don't care for IE...in addition, I must have some differences in the settings for Explorer and Navigator, b/c although I can usually get things to play, I get--at least at this site--windows popping up that ask me to if I want to install so-and-so, and other...

Ok, computer geniuses... I have a new (~4 months) Dell running Windows XP, connected to the web via a cable modem/router. Here's the prob: My hard drive runs incessantly. It has gotten progressively worse over the last week or so. It has now gotten to the point where it is severely affecting the performance of the machine...programs take forever to open, web pages load reeeeeeeeeally slowly. Sometimes the machine can sit idle for several minutes, and when I sit down to surf, I can hear it running before I even touch it. If I reboot, the problem diminishes somewhat, but...

Written by a US Army captain who was there... We knew there was a dinner planned with Ambassador Bremer and LTG Sanchez. There were 600 seats available and all the units in the division were tasked with filling a few tables. Naturally, the 501st MI battalion got our table. Soldiers were grumbling about having to sit through another dog-and-pony show, so we had to pick soldiers to attend. I chose not to go. But, about 1500 the G2, LTC Devan, came up to me and with a smile, asked me to come to dinner with him, to meet him in...

LONDON - Athletes who have undergone sex change operations will be eligible to compete in the Olympics for the first time under new rules being finalized by the IOC (news - web sites). The International Olympic Committee convened a meeting in Sweden last month of medical experts in the field and will announce its policy in the next few weeks. "We will have no discrimination," IOC medical director Patrick Schamasch told The Associated Press on Thursday. "The IOC will respect human rights." Details are still being worked out, but Schamasch said transsexual athletes will be eligible for the Olympics once...

A year or so ago, a friend emailed me an animation file. I will do my best to describe it. It had Chinese/Japanese characters in it, soft music, and weird graphics of people/children (?). The music was so soft, you had to turn up the volume so you wouldn't miss anything. Well, after several pages of animation, there was a sound at the end of a blood-curdling scream. It would scare the CRAP out of you, because it was completely unexpected, and at a volume 10 or so times louder than the rest. Anyone who remembers this, and can post...
