Democracy Docket ^ | July 25, 2024 | Crystal Hill

Posted on 07/26/2024 1:53:23 AM PDT by John Robinson

Massachusetts Sen. Edward Markey is renewing his push to expand the U.S. Supreme Court by adding four seats, less than a day after President Biden announced his support for reforming the high court.

Speaking in front of the Court building Thursday, the Democratic senator urged Congress to pass the Judiciary Act, a proposal that would create a 13-justice bench...

I really do believe they're going to attempt to cheat not only the election of 2024 but SCOTUS as well. We MUST make this election Too Big To Rig.

We should call it the ‘Sore Loser Solution’.
America put up with liberal decisions from SCOTUS for more than 60 years.
We finally have a court that actually reflects the Constitution and the democrats first reaction is to childishly change the court.
Like little kids who want to take their ball and go home when they lose.
And that’s exactly how they appear, like pouting children throwing a tantrum.

Newsflash for Mr Frosty, it ain’t gonna happen. (Markey used to drive an ice cream truck, Howie Carr’s Boston talk radio show branded him Mr Frosty).

It looks like the Democrats are on the verge of going full authoritarian. We will have no guaranteed rights left after the Democrat party has their political take-over of the Supreme Court and eliminates the independent judiciary branch. Conservatives allowed a hard-left Court to exist independently for 60 years or so and never decided to go the authoritarian political take-over of the Court route that many oppressive, anti-democracy Democrats want.

Our side needs to take the Democrat’s willingness to trash the Constitution and violate separate of powers solely for political benefit very seriously, as it is one of the scariest violations they have yet suggested. And they are serious. They want to make 100% sure they can do absolutely anything to us and to this country with no judicial restraints. Add that to all the other despotic moves they have made in recent times, and we may be mindlessly drifting in a very dark direction.

Would they want to expand the court if Republicans held the majority in the Senate and had a Republican president to appoint the new justices? Of course not. They want to expand the court if they are in power.

Congress cannot recreate the Supreme Court of The UNited STates without agreement from all States. There is a Doctrine of Separation of Powers.

Changes in the Supreme Court such as term limits of justices would likely require a constitutional amendment.

THere will be no “packing of the court.”

The President ignored the Supreme Court on student loan debt forgiveness. Lindsey Graham, and Kamala Harris have talked about a national abortion ban (Graham) and codifying Roe (Harris) after the Dobbs decision. The state of New York clearly didn’t agree with the Bruen decision. The legislative branch, executive branch, and the states scoff at USSC decisions, why not just pack the courts without a Constitutional amendment? It’s not like anybody is going to stop it.

Who will stop them? The SCOTUS?
IMHO the will of the People are all that stands in their way.

Maybe if the pubbies and Trump get in, they can get their expanded, conservative SCOTUS.
I would laugh at that.

FDR tried that crap and may have done it if not for some SCOTUS maneuvering. https://constitutioncenter.org/blog/how-fdr-lost-his-brief-war-on-the-supreme-court-2

13 is not a sacred number, but number 9 is. If the number 9 is multiplied by any single-digit number, adding together the two digits of the product gives the number 9. For example: 9x3 = 27 = 2 + 7 = 9; 9x9 = 81 = 8 + 1 = 9; 9x5 = 45 = 4 + 5 = 9 and so forth.

The number nine holds great significance in cultures spanning all the continents and all time, from South American Mayans to Africans to Europeans to Chinese (there were 9,999 rooms in the Forbidden City). It signifies wisdom, completeness and the eternal. Otoh, the number 13 is unlucky and represents rebellion, the underworld, destruction and ruin. Nine works. Let’s not mess with perfection.

The ballot box is going to stop the loan forgiveness fiasco dead in the water.

As the wheel turns. The real question is whether AMerica votes for the Democrat Utopia whichi promises fascism, or whether the nation will vote for tyhe freedom and prosperity of President Trump.

The Dems do not have rules, they make them up as they go along. But is America fed up with it?

I bet yes.

The Number of Justices was not set in the Constitution. (an oversight)

Congress has expanded the number in the past, it wasn’t always 9, it’s just been 9 since shortly after the Civil War.

Only since 1869 have there consistently been nine justices appointed to the Supreme Court. Before that, Congress routinely changed the number of justices to achieve its own partisan political goals, resulting in as few as five Supreme Court justices required by law under John Adams to as many as 10 under Abraham Lincoln.

why is it with every democratic party suggestion to enlarge the Supreme Court, ( which is and would be a Contitutional Amendment, would it not?), it is always THE NUMBER FOUR (4)?

If Trump wins and the house and senate are Republican than Trump should do just that. Add four more conservative justices to the bench. Then he can quote Senator Markey. It would drive the left off a cliff.
