If someone who is "offended" can get a multibillion dollar corporation like Target to pull an item, then I can voice my reactions here.

Yes, yes, Freepers are SO powerful. They choose a nominal object that represents perhaps one one-hundred billionth of all that Target has on its collective shelves, and Target "caves," and they think they really made a stand. How freaking pathetic.

Why not refuse to ever go into any Target ever again, because most of what they sell is made by exploited third-worlders, or because their considerable music departments feature groups that perform songs that are anti-American, or anti-cop, or anti-middle class, or anti-Christian?

Of course not, that would be a real stand. And your wives wouldn't be able to run to Target to buy all the cheap crap they push on them, would they?

I would say he was a heavy-handed clown who mishandled a young man who surely didn't know better. You make a far greater impression with gentle, reasonable explanations that cut to the fact and heart of the matter than you do by acting like a totalitarian bully yourself.

Did he win the issue? Of course. Did he create a dedicated, loyal employee, or someone who thinks he's a real dick?

I am offended that you were offended, and offended that you used FreeRepublic to tell me about it. Also, I don't feel your "activism" with Target was sufficient. Why, they could come up with something else offensive as soon as next week.

I feel you should demand that all Target stores shut down immediately, and then that FreeRepublic shuts down immediately as well.

If people got all retailers, broacasters and publishers to do away with what offended them...there wouldn't be anything left to listen to, wear, carry, watch or eat, because everyone can find something somewhere to be offended by.

I own dogs, I own guns, I don't like pits. I just threw in gun-stuff in my insult-string. I love labs, and have owned them, but the current queen is a female vizsla...LOVELY dog, great hunter, affectionate, etc.

Answer this: Is there ANY proof you would concievably accept that would make you say, You know what, maybe this is a dangerous breed after all?

The HUGE MAJORITY of news stories on pits attacking humans include a dumbfounded owner saying something like, He never attacked nobody before today.

And then the cameras turn to the morgue guys taking away the body of a child or old lady.

They DO go off. Whenever they attack and severely injure or kill someone, the cops or animal control take them away and put them down.

I hate to bring logic into this, but: If it's something that pits did with regularity, wouldn't they have been prevented from doing it subsequently?

Another way of putting that: If every pit is put down every time one of them mauls, maims or kills someone...uh, doesn't that prove that they do indeed "go off"?

You're wrong.

And investing your emotions in dogs that statistically are more likely to turn on YOU than any other breed is a liberal trait. You think you can invest your character in the dog...that your superior whatever will supplant the tendencies of this breed. Ain't gonna happen.

There ARE no other breeds that bite more than pits, unless you're counting all the toy poodles that go yipping after the mailman. But remember: A tiny scratch on the ankle bone really doesn't compare to deep lacerations all across a person's head, arms, torso and legs.

I hate it when actors like Damon open their mouths. It makes us all forget what great actors they are.

Two years ago, helping my daughter apply for scholarships to college, I was ASTOUNDED at the number of scholarships whose main requirement was that the applicant must be African-American. Whites were not even permitted to apply.

Not only that, they were far and away more munificent than "run of the mill" scholarships. Whereas my daughter had to jump through significant hoops, and great competition, to vie for a $2000 scholarship, there were many, many scholarships (most given by major corporations) that were five-figure, high-five-figure, and sometimes even six-figure, available to blacks only.

Here's the kicker: their academic threshholds were far lower than the scholarships whites could apply for. IOW, whites had to jump much higher...to get much, much less.
