I majored in Journalism in college and chose the advertising sequence over the news-editorial, simply because there was more money in it. After a 30-year career with two major corporations, I retired back in 2003. I can tell you that the legal requirements for ‘truth in advertising’ are quite vigorous. As far as I know, There are none for ‘news’ reporting. The old formula of ‘who, what, when, where and why’ for writing a good led(the first paragraph of a news story) was abandoned long ago in favor of creating agenda-driven propaganda.
