  • Prayer Request: Aunt and Uncle in Punta Gorda during Huricane Charley

    08/14/2004 11:22:02 AM PDT · by Jerry_M · 64 replies · 1,097+ views
Requesting prayer for my Aunt and Uncle, Joyce and Fred Schork, who decided to remain in their mobile home in Punta Gorda during Hurricane Charley. They are both in their 80's. My Dad spoke with them just before the Hurricane struck, and they thought at that time that the storm would pass to their north, and that they would be OK since their mobile home was rated to 110 MPH winds. As we know now, the storm struck Punta Gorda with winds in excess of 145 MPH. They have not been heard from since. I have sent a Health &...

August 4, 2002 Dearest Son, Happy 21st Birthday! What a joy it is to have such a fine son. Today I feel such pride in knowing that you have grown into a caring, compassionate, and industrious man. As I have told you over the past year or so, I am giving you a special present this day, a handgun. It was on my 21st birthday that I purchased my first handgun, the first of many. During the intervening 25 years I have always strived to be a responsible gun owner, recognizing that this is a right, a duty, and an...

Standifer told detectives he had taken the baby from her crib sometime after 6 a.m Saturday, according to Hillsborough County Sheriff's Col. David Gee. Standifer, a friend of the baby's family, had spent the night at the trailer home after a party. The sheriff's office ...

While the original article began with: "LORD Younger, who will today attend the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland as the Queen's official representative, has spoken for the first time of his personal doubts that Jesus is the "biological" Son of God." The discussion under these threads has gone in several different directions. These have included: Roman Catholic defense of the "Immaculate Conception" and a Calvinistic theological discussion of the differences between the Federal and Traducian traditions.

Deterrence: Concealed-Carry States Have Reduced Crime Rates A. BARTON HINKLETIMES-DISPATCH COLUMNIST Mar 20, 2001 A. BARTON HINKLE Six years ago the state passed a measure making it easier for residents to obtain permits to carry concealed weapons. State Senator Virgil Goode's bill required circuit court judges to issue such permits unless the appli- cant had been convicted of a felony, was a foreign national, or had been involuntarily committed. At the time, critics predicted blood would flow like a river. - "This bill will make our streets infinitely more dangerous. This bill will imperil our police officers. This bill is ...

Please read the original article under discussion, which can be found here before commenting. Also, please note that there are, or should soon be, other threads on which to discuss either Calvinism globally, or the other tenets of TULIP (Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement, Irresistable Grace, Perseverence of the Saints). In other words, this is not a catch all Calvinism bashing thread, but is a discussion of the totally depraved nature of mankind.

This is a continuation of the Thread entitled "Total Hereditary Depravity - The Real Battleground" that began with a treatise by that same title by Wayne Camp. The original article can be found here. Rather than re-post Camp's excellent treatise, I have chosen to begin this thread with Chapter Six, "Total Depravity", from Arthur Custance's excellent Sovereignty of Grace. His entire work can be found either here (USA, or here (UK, but better formatting). Total Hereditary Depravity - Why It Is the Real Battleground by Wayne Camp January 1st, 1986 "Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him., If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, anere never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free" (Jn. 8:31-33). When Jesus told these professors that the truth would make them free they immediately rebelled against the idea that they had ever been in bondage. ...

Gilchrist portrait removed By JOHN KIRSCH Eagle Staff Writer A portrait of former Texas A&M University president Gilbert “Gibb” Gilchrist has been removed from the building named in his honor because it contained an image of one of Gilchrist’s heroes, Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. Herbert Richardson, director of the Texas Transportation Institute, said he ordered the portrait removed from the lobby of TTI’s research building on the West Campus of Texas A&M University. Richardson said he took the action after receiving a complaint that the image of Lee carried racist overtones. The painting pictured Gilchrist in the foreground with ...
