John Roberts has become the worst modern Supreme Court chief justice | Opinion [barf alert]
Lexington Herald Leader ^ | 7/29/2025 | Gene Nichol

Posted on 07/29/2025 9:50:28 AM PDT by Republican Wildcat

With each passing week, Chief Justice John Roberts and his Republican-friendly colleagues bestow never-before-enjoyed authorities upon the Trump Administration. The plan seems to be — if we grant the president everything he dreams of, maybe he’ll leave the high court unmolested. The republic may fall but we’ll still have the cool robes and life tenure. John Roberts is becoming the Neville Chamberlain of post-democratic government in America.

Recent steps by the Supreme Court have allowed the executive branch to decimate the Department of Education, summarily fire tens of thousands of other civil servants, permit “third country removals” to notoriously dangerous nations despite demonstrated likelihood of torture, let the Department of Defense brutally dismiss even highly decorated transgender soldiers and sailors based on orders of overt bigotry, terminated legally-assured protections for massive numbers of migrants from war-torn countries and limited the essential reach of federal court decrees against the executive branch — frequently under summary and temporary orders with scant or non-existent justification. Each would have likely been illegal before Donald Trump became president. Now they’re apparently fine.

Who knew? Prior to President Trump and this dastardly Supreme Court and John Roberts, the President wasn't previously in charge of the Executive Branch...this is a dangerous precedent!

I know a lot of folks here despise Roberts, and he clearly could be better. But this is the most originalist, conservative court since the mid-30’s. What they have done is remarkable overall in terms of reinvigorating separation of powers.

No way.

A lot of times I think John Roberts is a coin flip, unlike Republican nominated Souter who you could count on to get it wrong every single time.

Gene Nichol is a classic example of the outcome of excessive drug and hallucinogen use...

Mr. Nichol would prefer we be ruled by unelected and unaccountable tyrants in black robes.

“”Be real...the liberal ladies mess up this court...not Roberts.””

But... it wasn’t the “liberal ladies” that saved Obamacare by literally ‘rewriting’ the legislation on the fly by calling the individual mandate a tax. Give him the credit that’s due him.... for his utter destruction of the US healthcare and healthcare insurance industry.

The problem with Roberts is that he thinks he can make the Leftist/Marxist/Insanocrats like him if he cuts the baby in half.

Nope, everyone hates you and the baby (Constitution) dies.

Essentially, he’s just not temperamentally strong enough for the position of Chief Justice.

His Obamacare ruling was a whopper that cannot easily be disregarded when it comes to his legacy.

This is just an Opinion piece-

A Lawyer and Leftist Academic bloviates his opinion on political matters, with a couched facade of “Authority”.

Nothing surprising. Nothing original. Nothing even interesting.

At least Robert Reichchchccchch is entertaining in his idiocy.

Roberts is a terrible disappointment. The best thing you can say about him is he is marginally better than someone like Sotomayor.
