There are some great instructions on how to build lifters at the site below. I built one last year using an unused CRT as a power source and maybe 5 bucks worth of parts. Lifters are also awesome science fair projects.

This law can go one of two ways:

    1) States that put pot laws on the books might do away with needed a prescription, in effect the opposite of what the AG wants to achieve.

    2) Since the language appears so broad: "effectively licensed physicians to treat patients with prohibited substances" and interfered with the government's authority "to enforce the law in an area vital to the public health and safety," it seems to me that this law would be struck down. If not, the potential impact on other forms of experimental medicines i.e. "prohibited substances" could have unintended effects on the practice and advancement of medicine and treatments. For example, a doctor who develops a new vacine might try it out on themselves before any FDA approval process and it would in effect be a prohibited substance.

What! Reagan has completed sea trials, is ready for service, and the Navy is only ready to launch it?

Talk about badly prepared. get with the program, Navy!

That's the testing phase where the builder and buyer of the ship can test it out in it's "Pre-Commisioning" designation. It's now going to be Commisioned, which is probably a better term the launching.

It's not right but who knows if this is the whole story. Let's face it, the father had to be shot twice with stun guns which means he may have a record for violence.

I don't have a history of violence yet I would probably need multiple taser shots if they tried to take my kids away from me. There have been several stories in the media over the past year regarding the Florida Youth Services agency. It seems to me that they really do overstep their bounds because they profit from it in the form of finacial compensation from the state for holding kids.

I agree with your point - We are exporting all of our white collar work now and in the process devaluing the work force as well. Salaries are on a downward spiral in many industries including IT, Architecture, Financial Auding, Medical Imaging just to name a few.

How would a person named Remsa know what this country was founded on

I'm not sure how you can make this generalization based on his name. The name Remsa can come from a number of origins but is likely to be of Eastern European heritage.

Mr. Remsa has brought a bunch of businesses large and small to Burlington County, NJ. But here is Mr. Remsa's info, so feel free to contact him about his ethnicity.

The ones doing the abusing in your hypothetical example are the RIAA.

Exactly -- It's not eBay doing the abuse, it's the one's they so freely provide information too. In my example eBay facilitates that abuse. The RIAA would not be able to collect a full history of my past sales otherwise since they wouldn't have been monitoring it.

eBay's business depends on minimizing fraud. Co-operation with law enforcement is part of that.

Let's put this in a different context since the first line of their Legal Requests policy also states that they cooperate with anyone, not just LEO's

eBay cooperates with law enforcement inquiries, as well as other third parties to enforce laws, such as: intellectual property rights, fraud and other rights,

Now, let's assume (hypothetically, I've never sold anything on eBay) that I have a few CD's that I have purchased and over time sold on eBay and the RIAA considers that to be depriving them of their rights to collect royalties on used CD sales (something they are actively trying to persue).

The RIAA decides that they are going to Fax eBay to get a full history on all my transactions claiming that I'm stealing their intellectual property. They now have a listing of the 50 CD's that I have sold on eBay for the past 2 years and decide that they are going to sue me for IP theft. They never had a court order to obtain this information, but because they are the RIAA eBay willingly complied. I never did anything wrong, I only sold some CD's that I purchased at one time or another and those CD's where my property to sell. The RIAA doesn't think so and they sue hoping that I will settle out of court with them (their new tactic). Is this fair? Seems to me like this policy is wide open for abuse.

It would have been nice if the Nation would have asked Ebay about whether Sullivan made the comments he was alleged to have made and, if Ebay acknowledged he did make these comments, whether Ebay stood behind what Sullivan had said.

    From eBay Privacy Policy

    Legal Requests.

And any company will turn over credit card transaction info with a court order -- how do you think they found those two kidnapped children in Florida yesterday?

That's the key phrase - with a court order. EBay will gladly provide this information to ANY LEO who simply faxes the request to them without a court order. If they did this with a court order I would have no problem with it.

I spent a straight month on The Pile following the attacks and was caught in the debris/dust wave when the North Tower came down. I suffered from the so called WTC Cough for another 5 months, have developed allergies (which I never had previously) and had a runny nose until Feb of this year. I have also had 2 chest X-Rays taken, a baseline one taken in Nov 2001 and another taken in Dec 2002 and fortunately it doesn't seem like I have suffered asbestos related lung damage. I have been to the doctor more times in the past 20 months then I have been in the past 10 years. Lot's of volunteers and paid workers have had similar problems and while my insurance has (reluctantly) paid my medical bills, others haven't been so lucky. It's about time that this got wrapped up.

Cool - From what I remember pebble reactors are inherently "safe" reactors that can't suffer a meltdown because they never get hot enough. They also don't require "stabilization" like the control rods used in conventional reactor designs. The pebble design also means that much more of the nuclear fuel is actually consumed, meaning that there is less "spent" fuel, like the fuel rods in conventional reactors. And it's much harder (impossible?) to try to use these reactors to manufacture weapons grade materials.

To me this doesn't sound like it's "child pornography" and was probably an attempt at art. I haven't seen any of his photographs, but based on a google search it appears that he does pictures of urban settings, people and pets.

Have you guys ever heard of photographer Spencer Tunick?

http://www.spencertunick.com/ (Warning - link contains nudity, but most definitely not porn)

Spencer does a lot of public nude photography, though his shoots are usually at off hours (mostly to keep the gawkers away) and can involve hundreds or thousands of nude people (of all ages). Some involve individuals or small groups. Spencer's photogrpahs are installed at major muesums around the world. Of course, he is a very established photographer, but there was a time 10 or so years ago that he wasn't, and even the NYPD tried to arrest him (charges where later dropped). Today, his photographic events are a pretty big deal in many large cities and they are usually done with location permits (just like if a movie was being filmed). Maybe Dallas's River Walk would be a good location for one ;-)

Also, children have been used as nude models over the ages by artists, but the PC element would brand an artist like Michealangelo or Leonardo Da Vinci a pervert and throw them in jail for 10-20 years today. Next time you see a classic chirstmas decoration of a partially dressed angel cherub, remember that some child likely posed for the original representation of that ornament. Is the sculptur who created that a pervert? Does that make the owner of it a pervert?

God created all of us and the human body is something that is reflected in religious paintings over the years. If you go to the Vatican, you will see paintings that would likely be considered pornography by some in the US, but they are really a celebration of humanity and goodness. I'll leave it up to an Art History major to touch on the rest of the symbolism.

But as the article says, it was in Dallas TX and not in NYC (where I'm from).

SAN ANTONIO -- Jury selection started Tuesday in the trial of a 33-year-old man who took nude pictures of a 16-year-old boy on the River Walk.

Benito Tovar (pictured, left) is charged with inducing sexual performance of a child and possession of child pornography.

Tovar argues he was simply performing art when he took the pictures of the teenage boy in the King William section of the River Walk last fall. Police found pictures of the boy in Tovar's possession when he was arrested.

The defendant claimed he didn't know his subject was a teenager and wanted the boy in his photo shoot to establish a male presence to his portfolio.

According to Tovar, he met the boy on a bus and was supposed to meet several other people at the River Walk, but the boy was the only one who showed up.

A jury pool is expected to be filled Tuesday and testimony is scheduled to begin later Tuesday afternoon.

If Tovar is found guilty, he could face up to 20 years in prison.
