Tour Eiffel is made of metal. Perhaps a piece of elevator machinery has overheated - but the tower itself is non-flammable.

Tue July 22, 2003 01:37 PM ET PARIS (Reuters) - French television broadcast live images of smoke billowing out of the top floor of the Eiffel Tower in the heart of Paris on Tuesday. LCI television channel broadcast images of a trail of smoke rising into the blue sky from the top part of the famous tower. A presenter said tourists were being kept away from the edifice.
