Tue July 22, 2003 01:37 PM ET PARIS (Reuters) - French television broadcast live images of smoke billowing out of the top floor of the Eiffel Tower in the heart of Paris on Tuesday. LCI television channel broadcast images of a trail of smoke rising into the blue sky from the top part of the famous tower. A presenter said tourists were being kept away from the edifice.

This could potentially be very bad. On any given day there are hundreds of people in the restaurant or touring the top of the tower.
The tower itself will survive, but there could be a lot of deaths or injuries of tourists up there.
