Yeah, but why didn't all the on-duty cops in the donut shop get involved?

Sheesh even a Libertarian would know not to rob a donut shop. After all, that's where the cops are 24/7 according to the Libertarians on FR.

On a serious note, I wonder how many New York and New Jersey Freepers have noticed the dramatic increase in shooting incidents in the New York City region over the last year or so.
At first I thought it was simply a case of an anti-gun media focusing so much attention on these incidents, but I've recently learned that this is a direct result of the decision by the state of New Jersey to stop any random vehicle stops on the New Jersey Turnpike by the NJ State Police.

The last time I was almost-mugged in Brooklyn I walked straight for the Dunkin Donuts a half-block away. Sure enough, there were two cops inside. The precinct was two blocks the other way, but I wanted a cop quick...

I feel bad for the shop after a shootout like that. I bet all their merchandise is full of holes!

I was in a donut shop in Charleston, SC in 1988, with my then-girlfriend.
There must've been over two dozen cops in the place, doing change-of-shift paperwork. The lot was 100% cruisers--we had to park out on the street.
This crackhead wanders in, draws the pistol, fires one round into the ceiling and says, "THIS IS A STICK--"
He was dead before he hit the floor.

Robbing a donut shop? DOH!
But it can't take first prize in the dumb crook hall of fame. The best one I've heard was on a thread some time ago which described a doofus who tried to holdup a gunshop owner at knifepoint. Not only was the owner packing, but the place was full of policemen. The resulting deafening roar and the smell of cordite were tremendous.

Never rob a cop bar or a donut shop.

Approximately 11 shots were fired by the officers and the suspect, Lt. Derek Glenn said. This is what concerns me. Now, an idiot with a gun is entitled to miss; however a policeman who is PAID with my taxdollars should be able to hit what he is aiming at at least 75% of the time. We are not talking about hitting a 4 inch paper target, we are talking about a target with a radius of at least 12 inches. I'd like to see every bullet a cop shoots be a fatal one, but for them to unload at a suspect and miss potentially 100% of the time, or wing the suspect by hitting him in the foot (that's missing the target by ~4 feet)is unacceptable!! With a pattern that wide, the cop just as well may shoot randomly in the direction of the suspect. All they are doing is adding more stray gunfire to the atmosphere.
