I'm coming back to Crawford for my son. As long as the president, who sent him to die in a senseless war, is in Crawford, that is where I belong. I came here two and a half weeks ago for one reason, to try and see the president and get an answer to a very simple question: What is the noble cause that he says my son died for? The answer to that question will not bring my son back. But it may stop more meaningless deaths. Because every death is now a meaningless one. And the vast majority of...

LA PAZ, Bolivia - The fate of Bolivia's immense natural gas reserves were at stake Sunday as voters decided whether to allow exports and increase government participation in a referendum aimed at healing social unrest threatening to fracture South America's poorest country. Exit polls by television stations Unitel and ATB reported that between 56 to 63 percent of voters said gas should be exported. The issue is a sensitive one in Bolivia. Nine months ago, then-President Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada was ousted for planning to export liquefied natural gas to Mexico and California. Clashes between highland Indians and security forces...

BLACKSVILLE, W.Va. - Warning: smoking in the toilet can be dangerous. A portable toilet exploded Tuesday after a man who was inside it lit a cigarette. Emergency workers said the man was not severely injured and drove himself to Clay-Battelle Community Health Center. He was later transferred to Ruby Memorial Hospital. His name and condition were not available Wednesday. The explosion, which occurred in Blacksville, resulted from a buildup of methane gas inside the portable toilet. The methane did not "take too kindly" to the lit cigarette, said a spokeswoman for Monongalia Emergency Medical Services. ___

With the unexpected and overwhelming success of "Bowling for Columbine" and "Stupid White Men," the fiction that has been written or spoken about me and my work has reached a whole new level of storytelling. It's no longer about making some simple errors or calling me "Roger" Moore. It is now about organized groups going full blast trying to discredit me by knowingly making up lies and repeating them over and over in the hopes that people will believe them – and, then, stop listening to me. Oh, that it would be so easy! Fortunately, they are so wound up...

MANNHEIM, Germany (Reuters) - German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has been slapped in the face by an unidentified man at a party reception of the ruling Social Democrats, police and witnesses say. Government spokesman Thomas Steg said Schroeder, whose party has suffered heavily in opinion polls in the wake of deeply unpopular welfare cuts, had been signing autographs at the reception for new members of the SPD when the...

What would it mean for the Catholic Church if John Kerry is elected? We all know where Kerry stands on crucial moral issues such as abortion, stem-cell research, assisted suicide, same-sex unions, and parental choice in education: he stands against the teachings of the Church. Last week, the Massachusetts senator gave us a vivid reminder of his commitment to the "culture of death." He has rarely cast a vote in the Senate during the past six months; he's been too busy on the campaign trail to fulfill his legislative duties. (As one of his constituents, I'm perfectly happy with that...

ANN ARBOR, MI —Shock waves are still reverberating one week after South Dakota’s bill criminalizing abortion was defeated by a single vote over National Right To Life’s complicity with pro-abortion groups to kill the legislation that pro-abortion lobbyists called the most restrictive anti-abortion measure since the Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. The Bill was sponsored by Republican State Representative Matt McCaulley who had asked the Thomas More Law Center to help draft a bill that would directly confront the holding of the Roe decision. As a result, House Bill 1191 banned virtually all abortions in that state and made...

CARACAS, Venezuela - President Hugo Chavez on Sunday vowed to freeze oil exports to the United States and wage a "100-year war" if Washington ever tried to invade Venezuela. AP Photo The United States has repeatedly denied ever trying to overthrow Chavez, but the leftist leader accuses Washington of being behind a failed 2002 coup and of funding opposition groups seeking a recall referendum on his presidency. Chavez accused the United States of ousting former Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide and warned Washington not to "even think about trying something similar in Venezuela." Venezuela "has enough allies on this continent to...
